We use to leave near there and went many times to the beach in Aptos, very sad. Now live in Florida and experienced hurricane Ian so know exactly what they are going through.
This wasn't as bad as Ian, believe me. Also, Babcock Ranch didn't suffer much of any damage by Ian, which went right over it. That's because it was built with the surrounding natural environment restored, with the wetland, sand dunes and native plants, and the 400 acre adjoining solar farm meant they never lost power. I live half a mile inland from Seacliff Beach, and have for 42 years.
Maybe Cal will fall off into the Ocean like we were told when I was younger but I guess it's Gods way of showing them what homeless people go through every day
It took years just to get the parking lot in New Brighton state park repaired . Looks like many years ahead without the boat rental business off Capitola and a big (?) how much the State of California will spend repairing seacliff state park. So Sad to see a 100 plus year old fishing pier at Seacliff meet its end. Seacliff pier will be dearly missed
The soil of the entire West Coast is ICE AGE fine dust piled up by around 50 to 100 feet deep as the super cold caused everything to the East to dry out and the ocean level fell a hundred feet lower. This is very loose soil easily washed away during Interglacials.
Much of the Northeast Coast is very rocky on the shorelines due to immense glaciers that bury the NE every Ice Age. Totally different from Western ocean front lands
35 ft waves hitting Santa Cruz and monterey beaches does not happen to often. Most the times the winter swell comes from the north and side swipes at a much smaller size. This storm hit dead west which is very unusual and extremely damaging
its like they didnt read the florida guide to hurricanes or learn from us because over here we're just used to having angry thunderstorms like Ian and Irma
@@jefhow22 CAPITOLA, Calif. (KRON) - California beach town residents woke up Thursday morning to collapsed ocean piers, massive 35-foot waves, tide surges, and widespread flooding. Coastal chaos stretched from beaches in Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties all the way up to San Francisco and Marin. An atmospheric river-powered rainstorm triggered evacuation orders for residents living closest to the beaches Wednesday night.

The same thing happened back in January of 1982, and then the next year it got bad on the beaches too. Maybe this one storm was a bit worse because the waves were a tad bit bigger. I will also remind that just six years ago, 2017, the stern of the USS Palo Alto got upended during a storm and 20 foot swell. I have a photo of me on that back end taken in 1999, one of the last years that one could actually get on the back end of the ship via the pier.
Waves in 82 hit much different. These 2023 waves hit us dead West meaning with full force with full impact . Seacliff state park is fully destroyed including the pier, RV hookups, the day use area including benches and tables, the bathrooms, and the walkway is cratered with wash out zones and sinkholes. have to say goodbye to pier I fished off for 5 decades. IT will takes years to rebuild the park and its doubtful the pier will ever be rebuilt.

Are you a billionaire? I'm asking because the 1% has had a tax holiday since Reagan's first two tax cuts in the early 80s. It's meant the federal budget deficit has blown up to what it is today. Trump managed to add $8 trillion to the debt, much of it from that $2 trillion tax cut he gave the haves and have mores so they can have more.
@BK WIL. California taxes is already high enough. California politicians including Gavin are a joke. They don't do nothing and taking everyone money. I hope all Californians dig themselves out of the water and change the political system. California you have a fresh start with Larry Elder. yes sir. Lost boy cave was sealed years ago however.
Well... you do live right on the beach! We wanted/needed rain, And now we're getting it.
I'm shocked by these scenes. I used to go camping in Aptos, had coffee every morning at the beach-side businesses now washed out. Scary..
California needs something to clean up its mess!
We need a big muzzle to shove over and seal Gavin Newsome's mouth as a start
Good luck on the next wave of rain storms y'all.
