Thanks for the review. I'm using MBP 15" late 2011 with 8gb ram upgrade and 120GB SSD but i'm thinking to change to MBA 13" .. What do you think? Should I or shouldn't ?
reason to change:
1. 45% lighter
2. 50% longer battery
(I'm no longer a gamer)
I just bought a base 2012 MacBook Pro from craigslist for 675 hardly used no scratches or dents with AppleCare until August 2015, and I love the shit out of it definitely will upgrade it. It's a shame the 2013 are not ram upgradeable same with the air I believe. If you can find a mid 2012 pro for decent price I would definitely get it
I have a macbook air and used to have a pc. Never going back !!!
Ikr
did you come back?
I have a MacBook Pro Late 2011, I've never had any problems with it, but it is just too heavy to carry around. Should I sell it and buy a MacBook Air? I've been thinking about it but I'm not 100% sure.
Everyone says the Pro is better and it looks good but ever since I saw this video, I want the Air. It's cheaper and it seems pretty good and both seem portable but the Air seems really good and half the weight of the Pro, so I'm going to stick with Air. Thank you for this. It helped me decide.
I can't upgrade, so I'll only be able to get the standard versions. Which do you think is better suited for university? (Engineering ) I'm looking for a one that will last me 3-5 years.
If I get the macbook pro, I can manage to upgrade it to 16GB ram in a year or so if I need more speed, but right now I can't. Cheers, subbed.
which one is better for gaming??? plz reply!
Hi i like ur video thanks for the comparisons! But in a few times im gonna get a new laptop but still confuse if the pro is good enough for video editing? Does it lagged when u put something that is kinda 1280x720 video? Thankyou!😊😊😊
Hey, tks for the video. One question: the fact that you' ve upgraded to Core i7 and 8gb of ram made the battery life smaller?
Same as with anyone, it depends on what you will be using it for. The Air doesn't have a optical drive but do you need one? Plan on gaming? But canpull it off but aren't meant for gaming. I would try and use Ultra settings. But we play games on both while on the road easily. $50 can buy you a cd/dvd for usb if you need it later. Will you be editing a whole bunch? Pro will be a bit faster but the Air will do it just find with almost all apps. It really depends on your needs and how you use them
If it's too heavy and you do not the extra power, YES! You will be glad you did. Especially with the added battery life from the Haswell processor
Hi Amanda, Thank you for making this video. I want to ask which laptop would you recommend me. I am a incoming freshman in college and I want to pursue in Nursing. I feel like i would be doing a lot of documents and researches on it. But if i were to buy the Mac Air, i was wondering if i could just use Google docs. to create and save my files on it. what do you think?
I'm about to get a macbook, but I can't dicede which one. Probably I'll have to buy the standart models. so my doubt stands between the macbook air 13',128gb, 4gb ram, i5 and the macbook pro, 13', 500gb hd, 4gb ram, i5.
I'm a law student, and a writer. So I'll basiclly use it for (intense) web browsing, e-mail and iwork, eventually some photo editing.
Which one would be better? I'm graduating and moving away to do a masters, so this will be my only computer.
in terms of music production would I be correct in saying the macbook pro would be a better choice?
helpme, which is better? macbook air or macbook pro for college? for assigment, assey since i will write alot im majoring in literature. thanks n hope ur reply..
Hey Christian! If you are doing the basics for high school the Air is MORE than enough. Even a 2012 non haswell model would work since your usage would be for the full 7-8 hours day if you needed to save cash and buy the previous model. I have used the air in editing videos in full 1080 and done just fine with iMovie and photo editing just fine.
Hi Amanda,
I'm Marcus.I also want to get a new Mac book for university , and I'm studying Law, so you will also advice me to get Mac book air as I don't do gaming. If yes, should I upgrade it to 8gb ram?
Yes, the air is all you will need for nursing school. If you have any mursing specific things you need to install via disc you can always pick up an external dvd drive for around $40- $50. That is only "if" you would need it! The MacBook Air with Haswell is the newest model out and will last you all through out nursing school without ever NEEDING to upgrade! :)
Which is better as first mac and main ONLY computer
Which is best for High School use?
Exactly!! Thanks hope you are having a good day as well!!
Most will say avoid a MacBook or Apple for gaming. However, I have a 2008 iMac we have been running World of Warcraft on with no issues other than some lag in Storm Wind or busy cities. I haven't tried the MacBook Air for WoW (that is the only game we plan on computers) but it works perfectly for MacBook pro as I have tried that. I have seen videos of the air running around 28-30 fps on the air for gaming with other games. The Air will cover all your other needs just fine
Thanks, this helped alot! & I'm a biology major but as long as air can does some basic editing im fine! What about the amount of storage that I should get?
hi, which one would be better for editing in imovie and or sony vegas? i will also be recording my xbox screen for youtube but i will not be playing games on my computer. Which one would be better? PLEASE REPLY! and how much GB should i get on it?
What did you end up with?
Thanks for this. I have a macbook pro 2009 that will be retired soon. Also, I have macbook pro retina 13" (late 2012). I am wondering if I should get an additional macbook air...
what do you all think?
When it comes to performance and everything I'm fine with the macbook air with the best configurations available, however what would you recommend for a university student who has to take lots of notes a 13 inch air or 15 inch pro (comfort-wise)?
I need the speed , which is faster ? open file , extracting , or other , which is faster ?
hey amanda, will a macbook air work fine for a high school student in his junior year. i will not be playing games on it. Nor will i use the editing all the time. im in need for a main computer that lets me surf the web, download some files from the web, listen to music, write essays, and also do some videos for projects. please help
If you have the money get the base model of the 15 inch Macbook Pro with Retina display. It has 8 GB of ram, a 2.4 quad core processor, and an awesome display that will make final cut pro and photoshop extremely fun and easy to use.
I'm going into high school next year which should I get MacBook Air base 11 inch or MacBook Pro base 13 inch thanks
I'll be in high school next year what do you think I should get base line macbook
Pro for sure with Logic Pro X. I've run this software on both...The air is very nice, but for Logic you must go with the four cores. Just my 2 cents. Peace.
m a student which is best for me? mac-air or mac-pro??
5:02 kinda of an unfair test because the air has an ssd and the pro a hard drive, there is obviously a difference
For sure there is a difference. That's kinda what's I was trying to point out for this interested in picking one up :)
***** jus the new generation (2012 up)
True
If editing is the MAIN purpose go Pro. After Effects will run on the Air. I have watched videos (I don't use the program) and it renders fine in full with using tons of different motions and effects. If doing only some editing you could go with the Air but I would max the ram for sure. Gaming is never best on Apple (although that is all I have used since 2008) the Pro will be better the Air runs fine on most games around 24-40 fps depding on settings, don't max the quality settings for sure
The Air will work what you would need is to buy a usb disc drive. Apple sells one for I believe are $75 but you can get them for $40-$50 if the brand is not important!
You can edit videos just fine in iMovie, be it a little slower than the Pro, it still gets the job done and still in a reasonable time!
I would lean towards the Pro since you will be using the apps a lot with a design degree. The Air CAN handle the load of both but you will get the best overall performance from the Pro. If I might add a suggestion..check out the Pro Retina. It is slimmer and slightly lighter then the regular Pro and the retina display cannot be beat! Sept. 10 they should be releasing the new info, you may want to hold off and see what they bring other than haswell processor!!
help! im going into highschool and im looking into getting a macbook PRO because im gunna be doing alot of essay writing but i also like to edit videos in after efects and play some games so im pretty sure im gunna get the pro but which do you think is best?
the macbook air doesn't have a disk drive?
Yep
this comment aged like milk
who needs a disc drive haha
Please a comparison of Macbook air 2013 vs macbook pro 2013
I believe it haven't changed a bit...
Thanks that helps...
***** There is no CD drive in the RETINA MBP, but the regular 2013 MBP still has the CD drive...
***** That would be the "Retina" model not the normal Macbook Pro.
Heitor Bordin there is no regular 13 inch 2013
Best laptop for college? please reply!!!
You didn't really touch on anything you can't get on the tech specs page on Apple's website. I would have liked to hear your experiences with them
If you still remember, do there's a display differences between those two? is Air have washed out color or just they look pretty much the same?
Air is the perfect choice in this situation, It will function as you need and much lighter to carry around. On a side not, personally I even prefer the sleeker look as well
I am starting my Master Degreen on Fall. I am thinking of getting the air because it has more baterry life and is more portable and besides the new versions pro none have the CD rom!!! As long i can plug it somehow to my tv is good and the price is amazing
Can I ask u a question? Which processor is more powerful? The 1.7 GHz i7 CPU in the new macbook air or the i5 2.4 GHz CPU in the new retina macbook pro?
nice video Amanda, I have MBP 13'' 2011 - upgraded to 8GB RAM and SSD, to be honest this is my main and only computer. One conclusion - if you need to cut video, edit images or sample music (I do) Im still up for MBP. If you need some light, quickly, traveling notebook, primary for office work (like browsing or editing documents) Air is right choice. Have a nice day :)
hey..
can u help me ...
i just a need a quick laptop, no gaming, no heavy editing, i will just need it for my presentations and projects and general browsing... The Air or the Pro ?
Thanks a lot..
I'm going into high school. I'm not gonna do hardcore gaming . Just need it to surf the web write essays. Do a lot of editing on iMovie and other things. Plz reply
It feels like the Macbook Air is going to break when you hold it
Nobody buys their crap anymore
adnama, do you know if the base (lowest specs) 11inch air will run illustrator/logic x fine? with this said, should i get an air with 8gb ram or i7? im assuming the ram will be more practical.
With the Price tag you can probably go for the 2gigs model...
unfortunately there are no Apple store here... All i gotta depend on the reviews and stuff... Under my budget I have only two option...1) air 13" (i7 1.7GHz ,8GB Ram) or new pro retina(13", i5 2.4GHz,8GB)... Bit of in dilemma here..!! help me out if you can,.. thanx
Should i get the base 13 pro model?? Or the 2013 air for a bit of editing and photoshop and normal stuff?
Yes, in some situations it is better, being more powerful. Some people, students especially, do not need the power and extra weight. Which makes the Air better. It all depends on individual needs :)
What would you say is the better buy? Because I'm torn between both of them. And I need advice on the better one to buy. Please help me.
Alex Austin ahhhh me too!
me too
what is the read speed and write speed????i have the same model of mac pro!!
what shall i upgrade ram or ssd??
As long as you're not doing a bunch of heavy video editing the Air should work perfectly and yes upgrade ram and anything you are able, that way it can last you many years before needing to upgrade!
yeah that would be good fine for high school (:
And an 11 inch one would be fine but it's personal preference. (though don't forget the battery lasts longer on the 13 inch)
Hope you enjoy your purchase!
well done - Iam about to buy the MacBook Pro down here in Argentina, cause the prices are sky rocking....
Welcome! Glad to have you!
If you are only wanting it for writing papers and general school works MacBook AIR all the way! Lighter and you cannot beat the 11-12 hr battery life! I believe best buy is offering $200 off for students and Apple is close or the same right now!
Which one is better, macbook air 2015 or the 2012 macbook pro? I'm an incoming college student who just use laptop as a normal student ( powerpoint, Microsoft word, netflix...) but i'm probably using it sometimes for editing. And some blogs and what not.
Im facing the same question right now .. I have a macbook pro mid 2012 and could get the air 2015 (new) for 800€ (Apple: 1.100€).. Should i buy the air and sell my Pro ?
What did you do ?
I just got the new macbook air. Ive been using it for almost 9 months now. I use it for editing a lot than "sometimes" and it works perfectly fine. It doesnt lag so far.
Don Williams Sounds good, thanks for the quick response. I'll think about it again
Don how bout the color accuracy? I heard that the air is bad , im planning to buy one but the color accuracy is the deal breaker because im a works with photo and design. So color accuracy is important
@@luisdavid6823 so which model did you get? Pro or air?
I'm planning on going with the 15" MacBook Pro. 2.6GHz i7/16GB/256GB/Apple Care $2,658CND for student pricing. I've been to the apple store, and a 13" and 15 isnt much of a difference, but I think the performance will be significantly increased with my configurations. Honestly, just go to an apple store and compare the two! The significant difference will be with the Air, you'll carry something thinner and lighter with longer battery life.
are you having WiFi issues with your new MBA (haswell)?
What is write and read speed? Is this silly question? I am debating between the two and am pretty lost :(
I do enjoy the iPad at times...it like it in the car or in the bed better. Air if I am sitting up all the way!
The SSD will add majorly to the speed, along with the ram and the processor speed
is that a food scale? what brand is it? thanks
Hey guys. I need your help. I'm pursuing a diploma in Mechatronics engineering and I'm planning to get myself a new laptop but the thing is, I really adore the MacBook Pro for it's superb features but my friends told me that it is not suitable for my course because I would have to download windows 8 and I have to buy apple care and that would be costly. I'm really perplexed as I don't know which one to buy :(
I love my 13' pro. I did upgrade it however.
should i go for macbook pro i5 3rd gen or air 4th gen?
I need help I'm 18 on about a $750 dollar budget. I will be buying a used macbook air 2013 or macbook pro (non retina) 2012. Which is the better option. I'm going to college and will be using it for school work and also be using it to edit and render videos.
Pro is better if you do a LOT of editing. It has more power AND you can still make some upgrades on your own to the non retina pro. Id go that way unless its only occasional editing. The Air is fast with the ssd and lighter weight for everything besides editing large files. It can handle large files but if you spend a lot of time editing go with the macbook pro. Hope this helped. Subscribe if you haven't.
@@AmandaWoolsey what about the display? Is it really that crappy on macbook air ?
Thanks! But I had decided to go with the newer version of the macbook pro with a standard ssd & the 2.6 GHz processor. Definitely going to miss out on that battery life though!
Both the i5 and i7 actually use the same amount of power if you look it up and more ram shouldn't decrease battery life at all
Also long as you are not a graphics major or something where you will be editing heavily with videos...Air all the way! No reason to carry the Pro around unless you just NEED it!! I have edited full HD (iMovie) for my youtube videos with zero problems. It does render a bit slower but It's possible. I would say Air unless you know you must have the Pro for something major with school. Basic editing will be 100% fine!!
iMovie works perfectly on the Air, never used Vegas or the screen recording, but I believe it will work just fine. Double check that. As fas as storage. I think save you $ and buy an external hard drive, 3TB - $TB are going for less that $150 on sale or a portable 1TB for $65. You can always add on an external SSD if that is super important to you
Yes! For sure!!
MacBook Pro all the way! :D
-2012 13" MacBook Pro 2.5Ghz i5
Bruh same
yes!! xD
Is macbook pro 2012 Better that air ? Is that what you're saying? Please reply
that would be awsome and maybe we could have dedicated graphics
because the animations are bit laggy!!! i have 70 gb of free space on hard disk,is that the reason for lagging??
For video editing, wich? Thanks
on my MBA 2013 13" i get about 7h - 8h 40min, of internet video playback, is that normal, i know flash videos drain the battery, but is that normal?
4:35 "...we're not really comparing Apples to Apples"
:-)
It's basically just how fast the hard drive is. The macbook air is a lot faster whereas the macbook pro is slower but has more storage space.
If you don't really need the extra space and are not editing video etc, then get the macbook air.
Hope this helped (:
What about the display?
Which one has a better screen?
Mi Nombre The Macbook Air has a slightly better resolution but the Macbook Pro has slightly better viewing angles
thanks :D
Is macbook air 2013 worth it for mobile programming?
I haven’t tested one, but it’s possible, not sure how slow it would be though
@@AmandaWoolsey hmm, oke thank you..
I'm just gonna go with getting the MacBook Pro !
I bought new Macbook Air 13" last week from Microcenter, why don't i have that similar wave wallpaper??
you need to upgrade to mavericks,
Which screen looks better?
Pro
@@AmandaWoolsey Thank you!
It is the only model I have had so I have nothing to compare it to
what about for college use?
which one should I get I.need one for making beats and using the internet a lot and TH-cam and school work
eric sanchez air
anyone notice on the geekbench the macbook air has an i7 not an I5!
Nice comparison mam
The Air design is greatly thinner, which means its easier to break
if you drop it. Apple repairs are really expensive or get pinched
by some student! :(
The Air can handle basic normal stuff just fine! The pro can handle it better. If you want the lightness of the Air you should be fine!
