I have used solvent free gell and just got some of the fluid. As I was buying it, a friend said "be careful to use it only on the top layer because her paint didn't stick to it in bottom layers"!? That makes me nervous. I also mostly use water miscible oils, holbien, cobra, wn and max. They can be mixed with unmodified linseed oil paints with out problems if you want to use up paint you have, it just makes them less water soluable at clean up time (if i do that I use all solvent based mediums) The benefit for me: no worries of a toxic spill on location, no volatile solvents (0) inside, easier clean up than acrylics, faster drytime than unmodified linseed paints, same pigments, w/s mediums work just like solvent ones (WN fast dry is the same as liquin right down to the pink crap that settles out. What is that?)

looks great! Question - how do you achieve the scratchy look to your shadow block in? Are you using any medium or thinners at all? Whenever I attempt it, it just creates a wash, almost watercolour look rather than scratchy. thanks for the inspiration - ive learned more from your channel than any other!

Wow, amazing painting! For the scrub in phase do you thin out the paint with gamsol or liquin or anything else? What easel do you use?
Thanks! I'm thinning with Liquin in the beginning. I'm using an easel from takeiteasel.com

I film myself. I use a tripod for some shots but the for most I've got a brush in one hand and the camera in the other.

Thanks! Yes, I'm using Liquin from Winsor & Newton. The natural bristle brush helps create the scratchy look as well.
