So they can upgrade for literal pennies, but most of them don't. So we regular folk have to upgrade ourselves which is expensive. $150 ish dollars for a pro key. I'd rather pay an extra $10 dollars from a pc manufacturer and have it on a new pc from the get go
That's honestly why I originally bought a G14, since 95% of the time I spend with a laptop is for casual use around the house or on the go. Extra GPU horsepower is nice to have during the odd occasion that I travel, and it just needs to be "good enough" to access my full library. There are better ultrabooks/general-use laptops, but a lot of them have poorly tuned thermals/clocks for when I do wanna game (learned the hard way that you can't just buy an ultrabook with a dedicated GPU and expect it to not throttle during gaming), and the G14 is still good enough as an ultrabook for everyday use.

Update: I've been thinking about this comment and now I realize that the g15 really doesn't fix any of the problems I have with the G14(mainly the poor medium load battery life, laptop io, and fan noise), so I'd actually take the lighter weight of the g14 over the larger screen.
Yes. But I opted for the 3070 model, as I it has the same cooling system as the 3080 but the 3080 does hit thermal limits in this chassis. First time I've ever decided to to go for a step down version and have it not be because of my budget lol

Except most laptops come with a physical privacy slider and an indicator LED when the webcam is active. Also carrying around an external webcam for something thats designed to be portable is a dodgy solution at best.

Mine was delivered on Tuesday- beast of a machine 😃 installed a wd black 2tb in the spare slot and have been going through Cyberpunk no issues. Call of Duty also looks good at 1440p on max

That 300 nits is my only complaint on this... Well, that and that I would like to see the gpu go up to 95 watts in turbo (or turbo ++) but I will be semi ok with the power constraints if the panel would go up 100 more nits. And I prefer an excellent webcam or no webcam. Nothing in between

I really enjoy my G14 Zephyrus, ASUS has really done a great job with these laptops. Missing a webcam is no big deal, since they're so bad anyway. Just get an external webcam, quality is so much better
Idk, you can always have a cover or power cutoff for privacy. There’s no way it’s not a downside, especially given the bezels aren’t really that small. I think that’s honestly quite a large trade off for the price outside of the US.
Almost perfect. The lack of a camera is a dealbreaker for me. Hopefully, Asus or other manufacturers will include the camera in future models with similar or better specs. I’ve been using my Surface Pro 2017 and the Windows Hello feature is fantastic. Btw...your audio is outstanding. It almost sounds like you re-recorded the audio in a studio in post.
I got this from Best Buy!! (It is the GA503 not 502) It is the 3070 version though. It is a BEAST!! Like, I can't even put it into words right. It almost keeps up with my desktop (3900x, 3070 FTW3). It workloads of compiling and actually does.
So I think a pretty common use case for high-end gaming laptops is a desktop replacement, i.e. plugging into an external monitor(s) at home (90% of the time), and using the internal screen for the road. This is especially true for laptops with optimus where you can see a ~10% performance bump by circumventing the on-board graphics. So it would be nice to see external 1440p or 4k monitor performance for games.
Love the centered keyboard, it's dead centered I mean the F J key is perfectly positioned balancedly, this is the only way to feel ZEN and in the zone while at it, dead centered.
A shame about there only being a microSD card reader on it, when there's clearly room for an SD one. And is it just me, or were the mics terrible apart from when the AI noise suppression was on (and even then, it wasn't great)?
G14 is very similar to last year outside of a GPU and CPU spec bump. As for webcams, my favorite the Logitech one with Windows Hello IR unlock support, however, it is over $100, so IDK...
I own a 2020 G14 max spec and it is the best laptop I've owned and it has made me decide to upgrade to the G15. They fixed almost every issue with the G14 I had. High-end Nvidia GPU's with AMD CPU's, 165Hz 3ms response time screen instead of 120Hz 24ms. Larger trackpad. USB-A port on the left-hand side. This laptop is a dream come true. I was worried Asus wouldn't be able to deliver something as good again but they did it.

Agreed, it seems perfect. Well made sub 2kg 15 inch laptop with very, very capable internals and metal chassis. My only gripe with G14 was its screen size, though in the end I got it for very good price and eventually got used to screen size. This G15 with more powerful GPU is more than perfect successor... If I become too tempted to switch my G14.

Just got the G15 w 9500hs and 3070 max Q and I love it. This is my first gaming laptop and I am coming from an 8700k 1080 ti desktop and I am super impressed that this can easily outperform my desktop. Awesome review only hate it doesn't have a webcam but I got it open-box at BestBuy for $180 off and I bought the Logitec clip-on cam and still saved $90

2021 Zephyrus G15 much improved than 2020. Some points yet to iMproved: A) 2 upgradeable RAM slot. B) Bright 16 inch display alike G16 scale with 16:10 ratio. C) Smartphone selfie cam as Webcam. D) Speaker with more bass. E) 5 degree more incline. F) Large side vents to not heat screen. G) Place a full capacity USB C port in between left vent and hinge. H) Place DC power in - beside Kensington lock.
If this had touch screen integration, which I use frequently, I'd easily probably pour all of my money into it. The problem is, even without a touch screen, I still want to pour my money into it 😅
I have the 3070 version of this and it's amazing honestly. The display is beautiful and fast with 165 Hz. Games run super smooth at max settings. Everything is very fast. My only complaints would be the lack of a webcam and the lack of rgb on the keyboard (which feels great btw)
@@abdlhamidraw6969 The temps are pretty decent, the noise isn’t really an issue although if you ever find it loud, there is a silent mode which sacrifices some performance for leas fan noise. Overall it is a phenomenal laptop

My old cheap laptop shit the bed and my desktop running an R9 270x and an fx 8120 just wasn't cutting it anymore so as a guy who finally started getting adult money last year, I regret nothing. Awesome laptop I got the best buy spec and have never been more satisfied with a laptop. Perfect screen, 1440p 165hz great performance and perfectly portable with a great battery.
Enjoy all the crew members here but he's got the ASMR down to a science. Not monotone but just enough to feel safe, confident in purchases, education, and he know esthetics. ASUS exploded and I'm loving it. For my needs, Flow13 which options to upgrade to Mobile GPU. But love Zeph too. ???

In the current world of Zoom meetings and such, not so much. The option for high quality webcam is good though.

The drop in performance is due to nvidia Optimus. Someone tested it turned off and on. There was 100 fps penalty drop on CS go and with rtx 3070 gpu.
The issue is that EVERY laptop in this review has Optimus. Minus the 7i which has Advanced Optimus.

This is my first gaming laptop and I am coming from an 8700k 1080 ti desktop and I am super impressed that this can easily outperform my desktop. Awesome review only hate it doesn't have a webcam but I got it open-box at BestBuy for $180 off and I bought the Logitec clip-on cam and still saved $90
The soldered ram and micro sd slot literally killed it for me. So close to perfection and lost due to those small things.

At these power limits, I think a 3070 makes more sense
the 3080 here is very very marginally faster than the 3070 (~10% at best)

Some people are posting pictures of it having RGB keyboard backlit but in the 3070 model
Yeah all models have an RGB option....in SOME regions.

2021 Zephyrus G15 much improved than 2020.
Some points yet to iMproved:
A) 2 upgradeable RAM slot.
B) Bright 16 inch display alike G16 scale with 16:10 ratio.
C) Smartphone selfie cam as Webcam.
D) Speaker with more bass.
E) 5 degree more incline.
F) Large side vents to not heat screen.
G) Place a full capacity USB C port in between left vent and hinge.
H) Place DC power in - beside Kensington lock.
When is this laptop coming out to the public I can't find this one or the grey one anywhere @hardware canucks

If this had touch screen integration, which I use frequently, I'd easily probably pour all of my money into it.
The problem is, even without a touch screen, I still want to pour my money into it 😅
I just bought one. I have a touch screen laptop before but barely use it. Track pad of G15 is good enough
I have the 3070 version of this and it's amazing honestly. The display is beautiful and fast with 165 Hz. Games run super smooth at max settings. Everything is very fast. My only complaints would be the lack of a webcam and the lack of rgb on the keyboard (which feels great btw)
how are the temps while doing regular tasks like browsing the web or watching netflix ? what about the noise ?
@@abdlhamidraw6969 The temps are pretty decent, the noise isn’t really an issue although if you ever find it loud, there is a silent mode which sacrifices some performance for leas fan noise. Overall it is a phenomenal laptop

You can’t really compare a graphics card with the gpu inside for a laptop
Laptop 3080 at a higher wattage is closer in performance to a desktop 3070, rather than a desktop 3080

Hopefully Ryzen mobile gets usb 4 support soon. That seems to be the sticking point getting it into razors, dells and thinkpads

My old cheap laptop shit the bed and my desktop running an R9 270x and an fx 8120 just wasn't cutting it anymore so as a guy who finally started getting adult money last year, I regret nothing. Awesome laptop I got the best buy spec and have never been more satisfied with a laptop. Perfect screen, 1440p 165hz great performance and perfectly portable with a great battery.

Enjoy all the crew members here but he's got the ASMR down to a science. Not monotone but just enough to feel safe, confident in purchases, education, and he know esthetics. ASUS exploded and I'm loving it. For my needs, Flow13 which options to upgrade to Mobile GPU. But love Zeph too. ???
