- Our KTM 990 Adventure longterm test bike is billed as one of the best all round bikes available and over the last eight months I've been bar to bar with despatch riders in London, scratched on country lanes and completed 1000's of motorway miles. I cruised over to the Nurburgring for the WSB round and I've even done a track day at Brands Hatch. But the one thing I hadn't ticked off the list was off road proper. I'd dabbled locally, but with a new pair of Continental Conti TKC80 tyres and some additional crash bars I was ready for a Welsh adventure...

I love how he can't stop smiling at the end, that's what bikes are about. Both of those guys can ride fuckin well.
What a sound! Totally convinced now that I have the money. For ages I wanted the GS, but my heart has allways been on the orange side!
This is the sickness. I love it. Great review, great riding, and an GREAT bike. Well done MCN and KTM.
Oh the sound of that YZ 250 enduro! Music to my ears. I miss my stroker :(
Fun video to watch. Very impressive performance in both you and our KTM 990
My hat goes off to anyone who can get a 990 adventure through those tight and unforgiving environments, these guys can ride!!!
Nice Vid MCN
Excellent video all round - Michael clearly enjoyed the day and he shows it on the video.
As for taking a 990 off road like that - it's the proverbial sledgehammer and walnut!
One of the best MCN vids in a long while. Congrats on it!
Excellent MCN video. I've liked others they ahve done but I must admit this is the one I've enjoyed the most. The rider/reviewer did an excellent job. Love that scene of going down that slick hillside.
finally a real off road test. awesome review
Thats some nice offroad footage, thanks!
Lee! What a sexy turn into a downhill boy! Awesomeness..
best MCN video in ages =) MOAR like this please :)
in fact adventure bikes were made for this ,,,, then over time demand molded them into touring bikes like the bmw's, however ktm still makes them easily usable for off-road purposes, like the dakar rally,
perfect bike for touring and offroad!
NICE vid MCN... I really enjoyed that. and you sure did put that KTM990ADV through its paces alright.
Legends are on two strokes.
As someone who has never ridden 2 wheels off road, this would scare the absolute shit out of me.
3:14 - "He is a serious rider."
*Rides a 2-stroke :D
Please do more long reviews like this!
Awesome. If I had to settle for one bike only, that would do the trick!
Excellent MCN video. I've liked others they ahve done but I must admit this is the one I've enjoyed the most. The rider/reviewer did an excellent job. Love that scene of going down that slick hillside. I've got an hp2 and I've taken it down that type of slick crap and it's no fun. Looks like he is using stock tires not full knobbies either.
Wow... ya got big balz.... I would not have done that on a 990... too heavy... Amazing video MCN!!!
All you need Andy is a set of decent tyres. You'll be amazed at what the mighty Katoom is capable of off road! :)
Can't say I'd hit that trail on a 1200GS..... Quite amazing big bike.
well done for getting down that hill!
infact well done in general that ant a small bike!
Insane bike
awesome bike!!!!!!!!!!
Love the look and sound of the Yamaha! The 990 looks like a trail trenching, bush pig poser bike in these conditions, even with a great rider! I guess the point is -it can do it if forced too. Thanks for posting. JB
This video proves again, what I knew before: the limiting factor in the combination me-and-my-KTM990Adv is definetly NOT the bike! ;-)
I honestly admit: I would need a serious enduro training to fully use the potential of the Adv!
lovely sound at 3:48
@Aonexia
i got me a 2011 adventure r as well, and it is an awesome motorcycle, period. no comparison to the gs or super tenere... no challenge whatsoever.
Hello sunshine!! great test....
mto bom esse video mto show!
Good video "demo", but best is the "presenter", great for your work ... congratulations
a greeting
Medel
my current bike in a former life as a demo bike for MCN. my mechanic was suprised to find a stone in the engine guard. i know why!
Now I want to ride my bike off the road!
keep it on the road
Top vid !!!
Funny to see what you can do with the 990 Adv. Sad to realize that the limiting factor is not the bike, but my riding ablities...! :-(
i think it is also a big differece if you drive this bike in the dessert ( like the dakar rally ) or in the forrest as in the video. I think the bike will preform much better on dessert landscape. But it will always be an awsome bike :D
I want this job...
@ASLFuel Could you please write just a few words about your choice? Why do you like the KTM more than the GS? And do you think that someone with no dirt experience would enjoy the KTM more than the GS?
Two good friends having another kind of adventure:
Diving in Bishop Harbor
I just paid for one in cash...:) Adv. R! I'm happy to make my commute a thrill every time I straddle the black stallion now. Side walks are now fair "Game!" :D
I do extreme my 990 stuff all the time. However, I have fall lots!
A friend of mine at my school, every friday his dad lets him ride his KTM Adventure 990 EFI to school :)
@countach3 It's in the subscription of the movie
OEM tires? or knobby ones? thanks
2018 ?
A trails or Motox back tire would have made all the difference. Heavy for that kind of work.
@soyzakiaws to mono megalo on-off pou einai 50on-50off
spernei!!
ola t alla einai gialantzi on off...
He rides like I used to when I was a teenager. Doing hill climbs worse than that in the USA Pennsylvania on Slat dump's from coal mines. Use a honda 100 cc in 1973. I must be tougher than I thought. Not at 56 I'm not. Too old for that now. :-)
this guy ist the man! :P
try to do that with the new multistrada ^^
get GoPro Hero HD camera on your bike !
Maybe you should have let the other guy ride the KTM to show whether the handling problems you had - just how many times did you have to put your foot down? - were down to you or the weight/balance of the bike
@TheReapersSon ... its twin cylinders, not a single-cylinder, fyi... I have had 990 Adventure for more than 2 years, putting 8000 miles on it with no problem(s). Glacier National Park, Vanc BC, Washington State, Oregon's desert, Baja, Mexico... quite a bit heavy bike but glad I "traded" it off with my yellow BMW GS 1150. No regrets here!
@Furyon1 - that's easy to solve. Take the bike for a play in the dirt, then it's not so shiny anymore! Haha :P
Didn't Michael Guy once say he came trom a trials riding background? 'Cos he had a few feet down haha ;) but no he had some balls to ride such a heavy bike down that hill through the river and up them single tracks.
Super Tenere :)
What's the other guy riding?
I don't think it was meant for this. Good test.
I've had a 990 ADV for 5 years now. I've em arrears sports bikes on A roads, I've done a spot of green laning, I've done 40k miles on it in 5 years. So what do you buy to beat it? A KTM Dakar edition 990 ADV, just wish I had the pockets and balls to do the full off road session!!!
That pose at 1:55 looks familiar ! 😉
That bike is a bloody cannibal..
how tall are you? i am 5'9 with 30 inseam will this bike fit me?
Real workhorse ktm
yeh great bike but wouldnt wana be lugging that thing through single and uphils etc not designed for that type of riding ..adventure riding yes which can have rivers, small obstacles but definately will tire anyone out in no time doing technical riding which is better off done on an race enduro bike. I am 80kgs and had trouble getting a 08 te510 through some hard technicals sections as the weight of it tends to wear you down eventually. My next bike is 200 ktm or the 300
no rally look
cool bike, great sound but too big and heavy for proper enduro ride
#ThanksRecommended
i have one ^^
I hate idiots that make rude comments completely unrelated to the subject.
Naw dude, you missed it by a couple seconds. I think you meant 3:22 ;)
i heave a big black clock
thumps up if u missreadet ^^
you can do stuff like that with the 990 but fuck...CHANGE the fuckingg tyres and put some more off-road ones please!! it will be more safe and easy!
Looked like if it was geared down id make things alot easier
150? 200 pound weight difference between those bikes, yes? ktm 530 is better suited for these conditions
I’d be scared I dropped it with all the expensive looking plastic on it.
Check this out to see how it's done...@

damn such an expensive bike :(
15k is too much :'(
обалдеть
respect the rivers!! not for ride!!
the bike looks suspiciously clean at the end of the video...
I've heard that KTM's reliability isn't very good and that their maintenance schedule is worse than the old Ducati one (read: more frequent maintenance and expenses). Can someone debunk these claims and put some faith in KTM for me? I'd really like to own one of their amazing machines. I saw a 2001 Duke II on Craigslist that just screamed out to me to buy it. But... I have no experience with their machines and I've heard the vibes from the single-cylinder wreaks havoc on the structural integrity
@Metrowhite ... try eBay and you'd be surprised...
i wish this bike had a honda engine
In all truthful fact, it's all just accents and vocabulary. I personally have no problem understanding many heavy and obscure accents. Kareem, I'm sure British citizens could say the same about your English. And encabulator, American isn't U.S., the Americas stretch from the bottom of South America to the top of Canada.
I'm no off-road expert but surely the reason the presenter kept dabbing his foot was because he was going too slow? CCM 604 Supermoto.
Wtf is that bike doing offroad? Might aswell ride a Goldwing there :P
LOL i take my Blade up and down where my CRF mostly ] goes..
Don't you think that that bike maybe too heavy for offroad ?? loll
The 'Beemer' Guy gave it a thumbs down. Go figure.....
1 person doesnt have a ktm 990
these guys ride like old people fuck.
did he say motorcycle? Brits usually say motorbike.
get the 690 smc
much better bike
Hhhh
2T rules bitches..
