  • Finally I get a Tesla Model 3 battery to put on my house for home energy storage. Was this a good idea? We will find out. Will the battery every get up and running? We will find out. Is it beyond repair? Seriously will someone please tell me.... Also will I ever make a profit from it. Yes that is right a PROFIT
    Each week I'm sharing my electrical journey, getting used to the camera, presenting and building contacts. Why? To share the energy transition journey! The modern day equivalent of the industrial revolution.... Ooo whatever could I have planned...

    Loving this series 👏! Encountering problems is the best way to learn, and nice that we got the software diagnostics improved after your testing! 🙌

    Very interesting series. Great to see Dala also following it.

      I’m very glad Dala is following the series. Reassuring to say the least. Like I have an expert watching over me

    You should include the costs, I bet every single viewer is interested to know how much everything is costing, even if those costs are high and its all about the TH-cam content. Its still nice to see prices for a reference point if nothing else but to see how they come down in the future.
    All the packs are constantly coming down in price but whilst the manufacturers are still quoting £15K upwards for out of warranty replacement packs, I would expect Model 3 batteries to stay quite high. If my Model 3 pack failed out of warranty, there's a place in Birmingham that will retrofit a used battery pack and that's what I would do rather than pay Tesla double digits.

      I’m planning a video going over the costs at the end of the project. I’m also planning on sharing a miles equivalent energy throughput video to show how the battery has held up over time. Let’s say I put the equivalent of 200k miles over the next few years. How has the battery degraded.
      We need more garages getting comfortable with the repairs.

      Everything I’ve worked on I’ve made sure it’s been dead and checked the test device against a known power source. But you’re right. Better to be safe than sorry the gloves are on the shelf above my head.

    I have a pallet on wheels that i have the salvage company lift the pack onto, jts then easy to roll out of the van.

    • @TheOfficialBatteryMan
      @TheOfficialBatteryMan  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s a good idea. I don’t think I mentioned in the video but the salvage yard fork lifted it with the long forks for lifting cars lengthways. Perfect tool for the job. As you maybe able to tell I don’t lift heavy objects often 😂😂

    Spectacular ... I really want to use my M3P battery for the house, when the car is no longer 'viable'. Even if it had 10, 15 % deg, it would be really good value

      It opens up a world of possibilities. I imagine your M3P would go on for a long time before you would get the chance.

    I have a feeling as more of these batteries drift onto the market a company either fitting them or building simpler diy kits could make a fair bit of cash

    • @TheOfficialBatteryMan
      @TheOfficialBatteryMan  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This exact thought has been crossing my mind all morning. I got to thinking what if I sourced a supply of these batteries and sold them as working tested batteries. They could be dropped into kit cars built around the pack. So many uses

    I'd avoid using network cable for cables - solid core breaks easily. Use some stranded and ferrule/crimp as needed (if at all). It makes it frustrating tracking intermittant issues when a cable has snapped - not easy to spot! :)
    Edited to say I'm quite jealous of this project btw! Shall be following, especially the teaser below that you have sussed it!

    • @TheOfficialBatteryMan
      @TheOfficialBatteryMan  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for the advice. My understanding is twisted pair ensures CAN messages make it without interference. Once it’s mounted the cable will be secured and not moving. It’s all been a bit of a mess in the garage and I’ve experience what you described the solid core snapping off at the terminal of the Lily Go.
      Who would have thought a solid clunk/click would be so reassuring.

    • @user-nh7dz8vf1h
      @user-nh7dz8vf1h 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheOfficialBatteryMan I guess it depends on the length and conditions. They spec does say twisted pair for noise rejection. Maybe Beldon might be an alternative?
      If you use it, only connect the screen at one end!! It's used for a lot of things like intruder alarms (between panel and expander), access control keypads and other things that require data comms. Solid stuff.
      Look forward to the next video!

    Brave man! you cant just short the HVIL it expects to see a certain resistance at various points on the loop. this is down to 0.1 ohm you can see this working in the service menu of the car so its calibrated car by car I expect

    • @TheOfficialBatteryMan
      @TheOfficialBatteryMan  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Brave.. PSsshhh. Its for TH-cam 😂😂
      I read that it’s a 20ma source from the control board that is looking for low resistance path which translates to connectors uhh connected. My understanding is the interlocks are next to no resistance and this is confirmed by testing the resistance of the cable interlock pins.
      Having said that there will always be some resistance in the cable and connection. How small that is and how high a threshold tesla have coded into the software I do not know

I found it very insightful and it showed that I have some reactive hypoglycemia which explains why I get on edge about 90min after certain meals. When they manage to bring a Constant Insulin Monitor to market (in a few years) then it'll definitely put the cat amongst the pigeons regarding our western lifestyle.
