Wow, we didn't even have cable until about 1980 or 81. I didn't realize HBO was that old. When we got cable HBO was mostly a place to watch movies with nudity. Lol
I had the privilege of seeing the entire show but my 1976 was a bit foggy at times. I believe Tony Atlas wrestled as The Black Atlas. Dusty Rhoades had to have been in it. Gordon and Vince did a promo for HBO’s upcoming presentation of The Christmas That Almost Wasn’t.
@@javierortegon7536 I agree with @marklogan8112 Vince's PBP broadcasts for the late 70's/early 80's MSG shows were nothing short of sensational. His work on the weekly WWF productions is legendary. Love Vince behind the mic.
Imagine if the original ECW had been on HBO instead of syndication or TNN. Shane Douglas, Taz and RVD could have cursed all they wanted in their promos without having to worry about sponsors and censors, and imagine what they could have gotten away with in terms of sexuality with Beulah, Francine, Kimona, Dawn Marie...

Channels like HBO are so much better when they are new. They experiment with shows. I wonder how much wrestling was on HBO in the early days. Maybe that is what gave Ted Turner to have wrestling on his network. All though I think TBS has GCW in the earlier 70's
WTCG started airing wrestling during the Battle of Atlanta, eventually carrying both promotions in a single block. That was years before this. Turner got the station on the satellite around this same time, late 1976. Also at this same time, Turner owned WPCQ in Charlotte, who hosted production of the IWA's TV show after Eddie Einhorn ceased to be involved and the promotion was strictly an outlaw group in the Carolinas.
Was that the same IWA that Promoted in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama and had among others "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Ronnie Garvin, and Rip Rogers as part of their echelon? IIRC the late great Miss Elizabeth Hulette was a partial Owner of The Company with The Poffos.🤔🎤💃🤼♀️🤼♂️B.W.
And just think if Eddie Einhorn's interest continued to be piqued. The IWA could've joined forces with The Hulk Hogan era AWA and moved eventually to TVS and then NBC Broadcasting. The same Company would've had Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Nick Bockwinkel, and Bobby Heenan under contract and ready for National expansion BEFORE the McMahons moved in! Yikes!🤔😂🎤💪🤼♀️🤼♂️B.W.
It was somewhat of a Mixture show between NWA GEORGIA AND VINCE SRs WWWF. VINCE SR had Part Membership in the NWA as well as his WWWF! Vince JR worked on behalf of His Dad and Again, Vince Jr “Never learned to PLAY NICE WITH OTHERS”
On a similar note there's also the segment of Muhammed Ali vs Buddy Wolfe in a boxer vs wrestler match with Vince McMahon, Verne Gagne and Dick the Bruiser all involved. th-cam.com/video/lkoUgdl9sSA/w-d-xo.html
And Vince NEVER LEARNED A DAMN THING About Announcing from his Time with the DEAN OF ANNOUNCERS GORDON SOLIE. VINNIE MAC & THE WWE SUCK!! NWA Georgia, Mid Atlantic & NWA MAPLE LEAF WRESTLING FOREVER!
Wow Gordon Solie he was the man.
Gordon Solie could not be beat! He was the best!

Somebody has the footage. They're just not releasing it.
Why wouldn’t HBO have it!
Solie was easily the best!
Wow, you really have some obscure stuff don’t you? Gary this is CLASSIC.
Great find Gary!
MR. GORDON SOLIE ! THE DEAN OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING !

As a 55-year-old man I miss those days
I have always wanted to see this card
Its s shame there is no way to get this card
Say what you will about Gordon Solie, but without him, there is no Jim Ross.

What was Vince chosen to do this broadcast with Gordon when he could've done the show all by himself?
HBO is based in New York.
Little did Gordon know he was standing beside the man that would ruin professional wrestling as we knew it. 🙄
bs
Amen! Also little did he know he was standing beside a steroid distributer, sexual trafficker, homosexual rapist…

Ironically...Vince would lead Solie out to pasture less than a decade later
BLACK SATURDAY SUCKED BIG TIME🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
A couple of years later, Vince took over. Knife in the back!
Way more than a couple years later
Gordon and the devil.
Yes, GORDON THE MASTER and VINCE THE MASTER DISASTER…
WOW - of course this was when WWE was under the NWA
WWE was the WWWF then.
