i like when james and cliff were in interview and everytime james said something he kind of looked on cliff like he was waiting for him to approve what hes saying
Their photographer Ross Halpin back in the day said nothing gets put out by the band without Cliff's approval. Lars and James might've had their names on everything but behind the scenes Cliff ran the band. Metallica 2would be nowhere near as popular today without Cliff. If what James said is true about their songwriting evolving from KEA to RTL largely in part of Cliff, not only would we never of had a MOP but I don't think AJFA would've been in James without his influence.
Im not in the group of people that grew up with Cliff in the band, I got into Metallica in 2018 but watching all the old stuff & interviews makes me love and miss Cliff, I did a class presentation on him
Had the pleasure of meeting Cliff when I saw them in 83 and again in 85 he was totally chill those were the golden days of American metal and so blessed I got to be a teenager in the 80s...🤘☠️ 🎸
@@DeniseClairesaFalzoi-u4q haha that's nothing unusual to have a crush on your idol and yeah like I said he was super kind and not arrogant at all. I've met many musicians I idolized growing up as I'm a musician myself did a professionally for over 25 years I've met Michael Schenker Eric Johnson Adrian Smith well actually everybody in Iron Maiden except Bruce wasn't there let's see Eddie Van Halen and Valerie guys from a bunch of thrash bands like Death, Nuclear Assault Obituary Testament and many others I've lived a blessed life in that sense but I've pretty much retired from touring with bands I still play some gigs here and there mostly filling in for people and I write and record at home.
Can you imagine what Metallica would sound like if Cliff was alive today? He was so ahead of his time in sound and style. Imagine the Black album....chokes me up thinking of what could have been. I also feel bad for Jason Newsted cause they treated him like crap the entire time he was in the band.
The first song i heard and saw with Metallica was For Whom The Bell Tolls from Day on the green 1985! I was blown away with the music and energy from the band! This is going to be me favourite band of all time i thought and still is 34 years later! I miss Cliff so much! I loved this compilation ❤ God bless Cliff Burton RIP
Cliff, you passed onto the great beyond on my 15th birthday, so sorry that happened, i love your musicianship nobody can replace it, my soul is greatful to yours, scott
What I love more than anything. Before cliff passed James spent a lot of time on stage making sure to put cliff in the spot light. Going and standing behind him. Introducing him for his bass solo. Yea james and lars founded the band but when cliff was alive metallica was his band.
God dang orion over the video footage proves just how legendary cliff's head banging really is. Dude is playing a whole different song and his banging is still on time with orion.
A true original. Talented , opinionated, innovative and fucking cool. I was 13 in 1983 , listening to KISS , AC/DC, Sex pistols, Trust etc...etc... Metallica were a fucking revolution. We'd never heard anything like it and me and my mates became instant fans . Mr Burton was the spearhead of that change. After Cliff died , Metallica were never to be the same , Knowing that made them angry and , unfortunately , they took it out on Jason. CLIFF FUCKING RULES !
I always wondered, if Cliff stayed alive, would Metallica be as successful as they are now? I mean, a lot of metal bands that were crazy successful back in the 80s are somewhat not that much now. Let's say Metallica stayed "Master of Puppets Metal" for the next 5 albums and never released the Black Album, idk man. It could be quite the opposite. Perhaps in an alternate dimension, Cliff is alive and Metallica has become a band cornered in 1 style metal which is not the most type of music people listen to in 2022. What do you think about this guys?
@@G4M3RGU1D3that could be true but imo the first five albums to the black album I absolutely love but after master of puppets it did change style wise cliff helped make KEA,RTL,MOP the true greatest metal albums ever created the harmonies of Orion,anesthesia/pulling teeth and call of ktulu the speed of metal militia and master of puppets the emotion of fade to black etc cliff made Metallica what it is today period. the older I get the more I realize how much of a classical musical genius he was
I was 10 yrs old when i last saw metallica 1986 Cliff Burton was still on stage. I have never seen them again. I dont think i wanna. CLIFF WAS AND IS METALLICA
Hey, I've never gotten a notification for a video from a channel I wasn't subscribed to before. Even the algorithm respects the mighty Cliff Burton. RIP in PEACE!!! Great work on the tribute, Johnny Rock. I always felt Orion was him securing his place in the cosmos through sonic communion with that greatest of constellations. I'm gonna go smoke a cig and drink a beer for everybody who can't anymore, and gaze at the stars and thank Cliff for all the music and for being the legend he is.
Cliff’s father Ray certainly had a vital role in education of his children, but whether you like it or not Cliff was a special creature on his own who find a big support in his family. The only father who clipped his wings was the Holy Father, who took him away from us damn soon, but not before figuring out that Cliff was a true genius and a special person. I can’t find the way to express how much i miss him and how much i love him even though many years have passed. Love you Cliff
They were clearly in their prime with Cliff, in the studio and live. 85'-86' was when the band were as tight and possessed as ever. I hear people all the time say Seattle 89' is the band at their peak. Just compare that show to the intensity of the band at Metal Hammerfest 85.' I don't think there's much comparison at all. The headbanging, the riff writing, the vocals, the drumming etc. Metallica with Cliff were the greatest metal band of all time. I would've loved to have seen Lombardo in the 80's join that group.
Guitars have Hendrix......bass have Mister Cliff Burton! Yok know,I´m fan since 84,85 and what could be Metallica if Cliff was here now ! Waaaa wwwaaaawwww 👍👍👍💥💥💥💥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Respect forever my friend !
Thank you so much for posting this amazing video. I’ve been a fan of Metallica and Cliff for 35 years now. Cliff is the reason why I started playing bass. So I really appreciate this beautiful video tribute to an amazing man who had such a positive impact on my life. I can’t wait to watch part 2! 🤘
This man had the metallica sound the look and most importantly someone to look up to and very well respected you could not mess with him because of his talent we all know hetfield surely misses him too This day in 2023.
Cliff and I grew up together. I turned him on to Sabbath. We went to Castro valley high. So did Mike bordin. We had the most killer Sabbath cover band. Yes, I knew Mike bordin. I can't tell any of you how three of us had the most insane Sabbath cover band in the bay area before there were any cover bands Sometimes we threw in rush songs because cliff knew geddy inside and out. He was the only bassist I knew that could play hemispheres and la villa strangiato. We had a riff I wrote that used to precede into the void. That riff became the thing that should not be. He didn't steal it from me. Cliff was as much responsible for that riff. It was in c sharp tuning, which all Sabbath songs are. I miss that fucker so much. I engineer. I was second engineer on Mikey Jackson's thriller. Cliff and I forced our music teacher to teach us music theory at his house. That is how killer cliff was. He was the one who told mr. Ramsey that he wanted to know music theory in a month or else. I can't make this up.
this is a brief fantastic day here by the way, is there any footage that you have of Cliff while they’re on video or audio that’s not actually out officially? !?! there is a big demand to see more of Cliff that’s for sure!
Metallica and Cliff in particular seemed to always be rocking a crimson ghost, or a variant. Aside from being a great bassist, he, and most of Metallica gave cred to bands that so underground that you would have to live in the streets to hear about them.
Are you 10? Cliff only has pause to Jaco Pastorious, I'm sure they would get along well if they ever met. Take a long watch of Anathesia live before you prattle on again.
Not fair. Cliff would haved loved it. The black album is up there with all of Metallica's albums like the six Sabbath albums. Only album I didn't like was and justice, only because lars stupidly buried Jason's bass. I still want to kick lars in the throat for that. Will never forgive him. If you haven't heard that album with true bass on it, it's night and day from what they released. It is fucking badass. Jason came up with the riff to blackened.
Sure, but good luck finding even 10 minutes of video material featuring only Cliff 😂 He also participated in very few interviews. There are perhaps only two or three video interviews with Cliff between 1983-1986, all of them with James and the band. Edit: But thats also why I wrote ”Tribute to Cliff/METALLICA”, both.
I correct myself, I have seen 4 (short) video interviews with Cliff. The first interview with Mustaine and the band, one in Europe 1984, MTV 1986 and one more in the U.S. Cliff talked for 2 minutes. ”The end” of that tribute.
i like when james and cliff were in interview and everytime james said something he kind of looked on cliff like he was waiting for him to approve what hes saying
Also every time Cliff speaks James just keeps quiet. He really looked up to him, no doubt.

I’ve made the same observation. He understood just what sort of person Cliff was.
Good observation,, your right
And Cliff keeping it in check
Im not in the group of people that grew up with Cliff in the band, I got into Metallica in 2018 but watching all the old stuff & interviews makes me love and miss Cliff, I did a class presentation on him
Cool🤘
Me too! I got 100
That’s really cool!! That’s when I got into them too
Are there still people who, in the midst of this fever for rap and reggaeton, become a fan of Metallica in 2018? That gives me hope.
Who gets into metallica in 2018. Gross.
Had the pleasure of meeting Cliff when I saw them in 83 and again in 85 he was totally chill those were the golden days of American metal and so blessed I got to be a teenager in the 80s...🤘☠️ 🎸

This is a common view but Cliff listened to a very wide range of music. He wouldnt have opposed the Black Album or the Load/Reload stuff
Cliff ❤ The number one.

I just wonder how many more great Metallica songs there would be if Cliff had not died. R.I.P.
