Absolutely...if you care for Bert Jansch's music I highly recommend checking out Acoustic Routes here on TH-cam - it's another gold nugget that's essential for any fans of his - be well, friend 🔥th-cam.com/video/DONv5nqjbsE/w-d-xo.html
@@robertcronin6603 Thank you Robert. I have watched 'Acoustic Routes' many times, along with other great documentaries such as 'blame it on my youth' (Davey Graham), and 'Johnny too bad' (John Martyn), and others featuring Jim Croce, Anne Briggs, and others.
Have you ever seen Acoustic Routes here on TH-cam? It's a very beautifully shot documentary centered around Bert and his contemporaries like Ralph here th-cam.com/video/DONv5nqjbsE/w-d-xo.html
Well that was my generation and what a treat. All that was missing for me was John Renbourn (who wrote the Lady Nothing piece that Bert played). Stephan Grossman as a great host underplayed his prowess - those of us who have learned some ragtime guitar have him to thank for inspiration and teaching (did some great work with Renbourn too). All these players are great legends. For me Jan has always been in a different league though and is as comfortable playing electric on a jazz stage; real genius.
jan is the shy one and at the same time seems to be the most accomplished musician of all.... knowing his Focus background, he demonstrates that he able to play in all genres. Bert shows his genius but within a narrow scope. Thank you so much for posting - an absolute beauty!!!!!!!!!! Maybe Danish TV can provide a cleaner copy?!
I know what you mean, but music really isn't about competition in that sense. The point is, surely, that we're lucky to live in a world of blues, singer-songwriters, harder-to-categorise Janschs, and absolute genre-defying virtuosos like Akkerman. As he himself says of 'folk' playing: 'It's good music', @08:10
Have you seen Acoustic Routes here on TH-cam yet? I'd *highly* recommend it - it's a beautifully shot documentary on Bert and his contemporaries such as Ralph McTell seen here, Ann Briggs, Davy Graham, Wizz Jones and other originals artists from the British folk revival but mostly centers around Bert and his influence th-cam.com/video/DONv5nqjbsE/w-d-xo.html
This is so amazing. I have met Jan Akkerman once, he has a reputation of being 'difficult', but I said I just wanted to shake his hand and he said 'well sure' and he seemed almost a bit shy at the occasion... This is a true gem. A true meeting of great spirits. Thanks for making this possible, for filming it, for putting it up here.
Wow - definetly is a gem...I had only been familiar with Bert and Ralph but Jan blew me away with that Lute piece - try this one th-cam.com/video/DONv5nqjbsE/w-d-xo.html
Anybody know of the names of some of the pieces in Jan’s first session here? Can’t be just made up. Incredible musicianship. Not sure what you call the style at around 10.32 but very effective and beautiful.
To anyone else out there watching - if you're a fan of Bert Jansch, I highly recommend checking out Acoustic Routes here on TH-cam - it's phenomenal - I've watched it numerous times as I no doubt will this one🔥 th-cam.com/video/DONv5nqjbsE/w-d-xo.html
For all the Bert fans.

Bert is the master, great upload.
This needs to stay on TH-cam, it's a fabulous moment in history, captured on film.

i think you are right about Jan
Ya, well look him play the 20 string lute! Incredible.
Jan was classically trained, Bert was self-taught. Both serious accomplishments ;-)
And Jan smokes them all!

Depends on what you consider music to be about.
Such a gently Soul that really comes thru in Bert Jansch's articulate and warm playing, truly inspiring since 60's

I met Akkerman once, I got the same impression. Reserved and a little defensive. Quite a brilliant musician.
... And the classical/flamenco style tremolo runs he is playing are so difficult on a steel string guitar! Amazing.

I´ve also met Jan. He was being incredibly nice, let me try his Gretsch, and even invited me to his gig the following day.
Fantastic!
I could watch this all day long.

I just researched and it’s called the Tremelo method. Wish I could get the tab of what he played here.
No. Ralph does. Very underrated.
