I just ordered the x431 pro3s+v5 elite, will it program older pats keys on Fords the old large square head type without buying any special accessories and will it perform programmable module installation on abs or pcm’s.Also, when programming a new pcm or abs on a ford,gm,or Chrysler,do you need extra tools or go online to get as built data, and if so do they have a website to purchase from?I worked at a Ford dealer years ago and we had IDS and could do it through Fords own website but this is my first aftermarket coder? Thanks for any response.
Your new scanner will do PMIs and old PATS stuff but it cannot program a PCM. (No tablet type scanner can).
You’d have to buy your own IDS or find an aftermarket equivalent J2534 device and a laptop running Windows 10. Look at Drew Technologies to start, their Jboxes are highly rated.
Can you explain the differences between the 2024’s Launch with topology views.- why Pro Ace, or Pro V Elite, etc etc, just can figure out which to buy!
They are all nearly the same. Each one is a unique model exclusively sold by that particular retailer. So, you buy from a dealer, not Launch. Also, support comes from the dealer you bought from. So that is what matters most, not really the tool itself.
Great video Steve and I love how you explained all the different communication protocols and such. Very informative. Thanks for sharing
I’m pretty pumped about this scanner, really like using it. I appreciate ya Tony.
so if this one works on thousands of cars why are folks paying 150.00 plus for the models that work on 1 or 2 cars?
My guess is so they can save $1,000. If you are a DIYer you might only work on one or two cars.
all costs money not life time update by this price
So on my BMW if i need to replace a fried module with one from another car and have to re-vin and code it to my car , CAN THIS TOOL DO IT???? CAN I REFLASH MODULES THAT HAVE GONE LIMP ALSO ???? IM ABOUT TO PURCHASE BUT I NEED TO KNOW THIS STUFF , BECAUSE IM BEING TOLD I CAN ONLY USE INPA ISTA ETC SOFTWARE AND NO OTHER
I checked on a few BMW models, no reflash or VIN coding available.
First launch product i bought was in 2020 just bought the 2024 model can t wait to receive it and use the topology map ❤!! So much time gained!!
It’s a great little scanner. Always the first one I grab.
Definitely increases collateral damage when reckless discharge of parts cannon occurs
Well said!
I unboxed the same tool today and damn! i love it. makes me feel like a pro already.
Hey, awesome! Great tool to have.
Launch is my front runner for aftermarket. it's just quick. Low lag love the video!! The old saying is obsolete with new tools they absolutely can make you a better mechanic!!
Yup, I’m a convert! Really like using this tool.
You Tube makes you a better mechanic too!!! Working at home in your garage you can become a professional also!!! A top notch scanner will get you ASE L1 certification after two years
Hi, is a PC running on Windows required for registation and updates?
No, the scanner itself has a wifi connection.
@@ToolDemos Thank you 🙏
Great videos
In your opinion what's the top 3 x431 scan tools, I'm considering the pro3s, what are your thoughts. Thanks for your help
The pro 3S has the pro 3S+ upgrade. If you compare that with the pro ACE they are nearly identical. Only a couple of small hardware differences and the software is virtually the same. I’d say just pick the one that you like the best or can get the best deal on.
@ToolDemos Thank You
HI PAL HI HAVE SEEN THIS ON EBAY LAUNCH UK SENT ME A MESSAGE THERE DO THIS IN 10.1 SCREEN AND NEW UPDATES PLUS XLINK THE ONE TO GET IS THIS WITH XLINK
TOOL DEMONS 😈 THERE DO A LAUNCH X431 PRO 3 BLACK WITH SMART LINK THERE ON EBAY FOR CARS 🚗 AND TRUCKS 🚚 🛻 10.1 TFT SCREEN I WONDER IF THIS IS THE NEXT ONE DOWN FROM THE LAUNCH X431 PAD V11 PAD 7😊
Very nice & informative...Thanks Steve..
Thanks, much appreciated!
it does epb service mode for doing rear brakes on GM?
I looked up a 2022 CT6. It does control the park brake.
@@ToolDemos thanks
Have an issue with a 2002 Thunderbird dash lights. I'm figuring out I need to get into one of these scan tools with bidirectional, topology etc even for something this old. newest car we own is a 2021 Bronco which for now is under warranty. I'm not a pro, but do a lot of my own work. Is this the one to get? Or should I be looking at something different? There's so many of these on the market that its super confusing. I'm a Ford guy, but do some work on imports occasionally. Would like something that does all makes etc, but i'm seeing that there is no "perfect" scanner. Also I clicked your link to check out the product and it wasn't working.
In my opinion, Autel and Launch are the brands to look for. They are stable tools and get constant updates. The frustrating part is that there are so many models to choose from. This is mostly because different distributors all want a unique version of their own.
Please upload more vedios!
how to oparate Launch 5 pro latest version step by step?
Request from Bangladesh (asia)
That’s a good idea, I’ll see what I can do.
You made such an amazing video man. Keep up the great work! Thank you
Sorry to be asking another question regarding this Launch product, here in the UK it is not listed as the ELITE model as you show as the model on screen, seems all other countries say it is the LAUNCH X-431 PRO 3 ACE ELITE but not here in the UK. Launch don't seem to answer any questions either regarding different models and what the different capabilities offered. Does you outer box/carton say that it is an ELITE model? Thanks
I wish I could remember, but it’s been too long since it went out to recycling.
I wish you would do a video explaining the difference between the different Launch product manufacturers. Why are there so many? Are there any differences between them? Its extremely confusing when searching online. This product you are reviewing isn't even on Launch's website.
It is very confusing. There are so many different ones because the retailers each get their own unique versions to sell. Then there are the ‘house brand’ scanners and other brands. It goes on and on.
Any idea the difference between launch x431 pro3s+ and the x431 pro ace elite?
The hardware on the Ace is newer, and it can communicate on CAN-FD
@@ToolDemosthanks so much for the response!
I got an older cheaper version but still kicks ass! Best money ever spent on a tool, the only downside is that it runs on android 9, and I’ve been wondering if I can just buy an expensive Samsung tablet and install the app in it… idk if anyone has ever donde this
I think it wouldn’t because you register the serial numbers.
That looks like a really good scan tool, i have my autel 808 at home but its pretty limited, i can definitely use one like this, great video!
This is my first full-function scanner since the old Modis. I really dig it.
Getting ready to change out a rack n pinion on a 2012 Mini countryman S All4 will this tool allow me to pair the new module back up with the car?
Special functions that I found are torque/angle sensor recalibrate, end stop, and EPS unit startup.
I have VW, is there one you would recommend for a DIY user that is $150 or less?
If you haven’t heard of VCDS, it’s worth a look. Full version is out of your price range, but they have a 3 VIN limited version here: www.fcpeuro.com/products/audi-vw-vcds-diagnostic-interface-ross-tech-vchv23 That’s very close to your price and it is nearly the same as what the VW dealership uses
Great video, thank you so much for sharing.
I can see some stickers indicating 2yrs free updates, does it mean it will get a point where i have to subscribe or pay to use the scanner? Thank you
Thanks. No, it is not subscription based. The updates will just no longer be available when your two years is up. You can continue to use the scanner with the old updates. If you want to keep receiving updates, you can just buy an annual subscription for that.
@@ToolDemos Alright, thank you so much for your positive feedback. I now have confidence in purchasing this item
Pro3s + v
hey i find hard to find any information can this tool work on electric cars. i have ioniq 5 2021 . i would like to have tool that can code module that is faulty. not hv battery. i am talking about regular modules that can fail easy and then i need to write new vin number .
No, 2022 is the oldest Ioniq5 they can scan. But, on a ‘22 it has a lot of functions available. Not sure if it can write a VIN specifically though.
@@ToolDemos i will need to contact supplier to check. I would need model that ca write vi to ioniq 5
How does this one compare to the x431 pro3s+ v5.0?
The biggest difference is that the pro3 Ace is newer and has the new DBSCar VII connector. That will allow you to communicate on CAN FD networks and (if you get the upgrade) do DoIP sessions online.
Hey, Steve. I just emailed to follow up on our last conversation.
Okay thanks.
Can you program car keys with this specific tool!
On some models, yes. On other cars you'll need a key programming tool.
the battery is 6000mah. The crp Models have 6300mah
Good to know, thanks
Like the topology map, That's cool, Thanks!
What OTHER vehicle can it do a Cylinder Balance Test on? 1989 Chevrolet Camaro 305 TPI V8 ? Others?
Ford is the only brand that has that particular test that I know of
@@ToolDemostoyotas have it too.
Great Video, Looks to be a great piece of kit. Can't seem to find anywhere if this will reset service functions on Porsche cars, my Topdon will not allow any service reset functions.
I decided to search a 992 911 (2020 MY) Here is a list of the special functions available for that car:
Reset adaptive cruise control personalization
In the airbag module, it can teach combination sensor, teach reversible, belt tensioners, teach seat occupancy detection
Surround view camera calibration
In the DME, it can set adaptations, adjust electronic adjuster for turbo charger (bypass flap), delete adaptations, injectors, ready status, short tests, tank, leakage test
On the front end electronics, it can teach flap servo motors
In the Instrument cluster, it can display warning event memory, and clear if necessary. It can reset maintenance interval, and set the total mileage.
It can calibrate the night vision system
In the PCM/CVR, it can deactivate production mode and it can reset to factory settings
In the Porsche vehicle tracking system, it can teach driver cards
In the rear spoiler, it can activate the service position and it can teach the rear spoiler
In the remote communications unit, it can deactivate flight mode and it can do a PVTS function test
Finally, in the tiptronic transmission control. It can do an oil filling service.
@@ToolDemos Thanks
Is it better than a Launch crp919x bt or crp919e bt or crp919max?
Yes, it has a bigger screen, bigger battery, more functions, topology map, etc…
does it have any apps??? web browser?? google?
Yes it does. Basically a ruggedized android tablet
Will this work with the x431 oscilloscope?
Yes, just need to purchase separately.
Do you know if Launch Tech USA supports this scan tool? Some scan tools I am seeing are not meant for the North American market, I wonder if this is one of them?
No they don’t, it’s sold by Kingbolen. I’m glad you brought that question up because it seems like I need to do a video to explain how that works.
...@@ToolDemos.." seems like I need to do a video to explain how that works......"
Please do make it. You probably have no Idea how confusing this all is particularly to persons outside the USA. If some tools aren't meant for the NA. market where are they meant for?
Is the software global and does it cover JDM vehicles? Why do the user menus show a zillion makes but when one asks about a tool for shop use they want the VIN for YOUR particular car?
(Not fair to ask a USA mechanic about JDM. Being right hand drive, not sure if they are allowed in your country).
@@jackjohnson9989 great questions, I will start working on that. To answer the JDM question, yes they are allowed here, but need to be 25 years old. Very rare to see a RHD here.
Thank's
what type of support do they have???
The updates come all the time, so good there. Honestly though, I’ve never tried customer support. I’ll give it a try soon and report back. Probably in a video.
how much will this diagnostic tool do for a 2012 Ford edge sport or a 2018 infiniti Q60? module programming? brake bleed? tire pressure sensors? I was leaning on the XTOOL D8W because it can pull the security pin # but now im not sure. jeez there's just so many Im not sure which to go with...
This will do all but programming. As far as pin numbers go, this Launch has access to AutoAuth. With your login, you can get past all SGMs.
This is support online programming
No, you’d need a J2534 device to program.
Which model is this?
X431 Pro3 Ace
Do you have a link to the lift
www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/full-rise-scissor-lifts/sp-7xef/
Can this tool read real milage?
Yes it can, but only on vehicles that allow it.
@@ToolDemos And if I am not wrong it can even manipulate mileage 😎
You are all over the map.
Waste of time to watch.
Good to know, thanks.
I'm looking for a scan tool. Buy directional I have two older Ford vehicles both with EVAP system issues. I want to buy something that will work with early 2000s just for myself I don't do this kind of work for a living but it would be nice if it worked on other vehicles but we don't buy brand new vehicles. Would you have any recommendations for around $500 or less? thank you.
This little tool by Launch is very powerful, can do bi-directional control on Fords and is very inexpensive: amzn.to/49LdypX
For something that can do all vehicles I recommend the ThinkDiag 2, but it requires a subscription: shrsl.com/4dmxp
Also, a video that will help you to understand the pros and cons is here: th-cam.com/video/yNKTOdyetOc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=c5uxL9RsmG-hgcvI
@@ToolDemos Thank you very much for your information. The first one sounds ideal but I am inclined to buy something else in a couple years or so... I would like one that works with most vehicles. Is there any that are bluetooth that do not have yearly upgrade costs? If I don't get another vehicle, do I have to still upgrade? I can spend a little more money for a better one. Would like to stay under 500.00
Thanks again!!
@@KelleyLeach the Autel MK808 is a classic, well known and reliable. It’ll get you what you want under $500. Updates are mostly to add newer cars.
@@ToolDemosis there a great scan tool that offers topology mapping for under $500?
@@lydellleopold5884 no, none that I know of. That seems to be a feature of $1000ish tools.
Nice review. I just bought a similar scanner. A 2024 Launch X431 Pro3 V+ 5.0 Elite. I have not had a chance to use it yet but it looks like a nice tool.
I already had a few other scanners like a Thinktool Pros which is similar to this Launch, an Otofix D1, and an Innova 5610. I'm just a DIY'er but work on cars quite a bit and I like being able to access all of the information that I can. I've had the Thinktool for about 2 1/2 years and it has really helped me out.
I just found your channel but look forward to checking out your other videos.
Thanks and welcome to the channel. Like you, I’m a DIYer who does a lot of work.
Hello, thanks for the video. I have a doubt in which Launch model to buy... Do they all have same car compatibility?
Been checking on: Pro Ace, Pro Apex, PROS, Pro3s+, TT, DYNO, ... Too many models and I am confused.
Does this one you do the vid about include Tesla / EV? Thanks.
Too many versions for sure, every distributor has their own specs. This one does not include Tesla, but there are some that do.
@@ToolDemos Thank you very much for the answer. I ended up buying this same model but for Europe. The only thing I didn't like much was the internals, I checked them and hardware is kind of very old (2018) so it's confusing they call it: NEW 2024.
Anyway, awsome device!
Great video! I have autel scan tool! Can you review those? Is there a yearly subscription for then item you have?
Thanks, I’m up for a review of an Autel. There are no subscriptions with this tool. They do updates though, first two years are free. You can still use it without updates, save some money.
