I am doing as much exercise as I could including walking 5,000 steps daily and doing online mental exercises. At 88 year old I still look forward to more active life, hopefully to make it to 90.
I am a 77-year-old childless widow who lives independently. I do all the things you suggest. I go to the gym three times a week, play Scrabble do jigsaw puzzles, and play Solitaire online. I meet up with people for get-togethers and cook for myself. I can swear by going to the gym. I have never felt fitter and healthier in my life.
I gave up driving when I retired and chose a community that I thought had a good bus system - I was wrong but I still exercise whether using the bus system or not by walking to a bus stop or taking the bus one way and walking the other. I read voraciously - lots of fiction from the library but also nonfiction on various subjects including climate change, the environment, physical and mental health, nutrition, exercise. I try new recipes often and from a variety of ethnic sources. I keep many ingredients on hand for just such occasions. I love crossword puzzles and do as many as I can. I would like to do jigsaw puzzles but my cats' involvement interferes!
