You’re absolutely right bro! Was just at my daughters daycare for trunk or treat and a guy brought his old spartan firetruck with an 8v71.. I waited around just to hear him start it. No sound like it.. I have a 60 series in my daily but like you said that Borg Warner whistles like no tomorrow.
That truck does not sound like the Duel truck. The Duel truck had a 300 horsepower 1674 twin turbocharged Cat in the movie. This truck has a small cam Cummins. Way different sound from each other.

There was one I got to drive only about 4 times but it stands out above the rest. 1980s Freightliner with a V12 Detroit and a 13 speed Fuller transmission. Get behind the wheel of one hauling a trailer train grossing over 100,000 pounds It was sure joy with all that V12 music. And the power just awesome.

I hear ya man. I used to ride with my Dad sometimes... he grew up in the moving business and drove many a' truck. I remember riding with him and loved the sound of the engine and revs when he was shifting working up a hill. He used to open and shut the door while going upwards of 80 mph because he old truck door would get loose... and he had to open and slam it hahaha. Oh the memories!

This video is especially cool because he drove one VERY similar to the one in the vid though I know he drove both Macks (twin stick too) and Freightliner ... that even looks like an old United Van Lines cab with the paint job! Great Video!!!
gotta love trucks... or have grown up with them... to appreciate it maybe! I used to stand outside and wait for my Dad to get back from the road... and you could hear him coming... and remember to a 4 year old boy... a truck like this is HUGE and POWERFUL!

The military M813 had an NHC 250 855 small cam Cummins just like this Freight shaker. You can put a turbo on if you want but they sound better without it
My uncle owed a demolition/housemoving business and in his fleet it was all COE Freightliners 2&3 axle truck-tractors. I thought those were the most beautiful trucks, until I grew a little older and started looking at the conventional truck-tractors. Those are Beautiful to look at as well as driving it!
What's interesting is the United Van Lines paintjob which is easily 20 years older than the truck itself. I would say Its first owner gave her a pretty easy life

my dad had a 68 Diamond Reo with a 250 cummins twin stacks with a 5 and 2 speed axle. When it was tuned right it sounded good with that great 250 crack .

They're all engine brakes. A "Jake" brake is a common term used to describe the use of released engine compression to slow a vehicle using the engine to supplement the wheel brakes. The Jake part comes from Jacobs Vehicle Systems which developed its version of an engine brake in the late 50's or early 60's. "Jake Brake" is a genericized name for commonly used type of engine brake.
Every time I see this video I get the willies. These old Slimline Cabovers spewing thick black smoke use to scare the hell out of me as a kid & Occasionally when I see one, that fear comes back LOL BUT..... I like that fear cause I love these trucks.
Length laws (which have over the years loosened up), new crash safety standards, fumes/vibrations making there way up into the cab, as well as the lack of convenient access to the engine for repairs among other reasons all lead to cab-over's disappearing. They have a unique style to them for sure. But aside from the aesthetic enjoyment of them you'd never want to spend endless hours driving them. Ask anyone who did and they'll tell you the same.
Though in his one old Mack truck... he said if you got haulin' ass fast enough do the hill... you could usually ride it out on the way up without having to shift through too many gears...
