She is and was the voice of wgn tv during WGN,s heyday of the superstations wgn, wtbs Atlanta and wwor 9 nyc/Secaucus nj mostly during the 1980,s good times and the early days of cable tv!! Wgn recieved all across America if you're carried it in you're area!!!
I drove a cab part time a long time ago, maybe 15years ago and I picked her up downtown and took her to 1550 LSD. Somehow, she started talking about how BLACKS committing all of this crime is only providing entertainment. I was polite and professional...didn't say much, and I only remember her as the person on TV who gave out the winning lottery numbers....I reached her destination, she paid but didn't tip...I couldn't believe it...than, once she left, I looked in the back seat and saw she left something, like a little black box... I pulled over to reach for it...and I was thinking, 'I usually try to return things left in the cab, but not this time...if its something of value, its my tip." It turned out to be some type of plague...an award of some nature with her name on it. I decide to go back to the high rise of where I dropped her off to return it. A black security guard was sitting at the front desk, I explain to him, what happened and she left something I want to return..he took it and I said, 'I couldn't believe this woman didn't tip,' he immediately said, "Hey brother, that's the way she is ...I understand. She's like that.' Now that she’s passed away, I started reading her bio..and came across how she survived a shooting and before I finished reading her history, I guess the shooter was probably a black man. I now think it had something to do with her not tipping and she resented black men because of what she went through…she might’ve need some type of therapy to get over her trauma.

Yes, I think your right... She was treated badly as child. Shot in head by a Blackman. But I found that people with high income tipped badly. Middle-class people tipped better, because they know how hard it is to make a living.

@@brownr749 Well the Media reported that her childhood was a ruff one, not a ideal family setting. As far as the tipping part, I drove a hack 5 years. I found out people who lived in some of the richest Suburbs tipped badly. These people have been rich for generations and had no idea how hard it is to make money because they always had it. As far as Mari Dee, may she rest in peace..I don't no why you didn't get a tip.
Grew up watching Merri Dee on WGN, she was beautiful all the way to the end. So sad her life was almost taken in 1971. May she RIP.
