  • This fly is a demonstration on how to tie a bead head nymph with a compensation hackle method to create the correct hackle size for the hook. The bead head soft-hackled nymph is one of the most productive nymphs because it can usually be fished without any weight on the leader allowing the fly itself to reach the various depths you want by either mending or raising the fly. This not only allows the fly to be where the fish are holding and feeding, but also let's you detect strikes as there is no hinge in the leader system that creates less sensitivity in detecting strikes. The grouse feather is one of the softest game bird feathers available and it has a lot of action in the water. By using two feathers of the same appearance you can create a more even looking hackle collar behind a bead head when you can't wrap the feather due to the feather size. This fly also has a bit of eye catching appeal with the holographic tinsel ribbing and the contrast between the rabbit body dubbing segments. Give this fly a try and let me know how it does for you.
