I bought the art book and apparently at first you did play as a human! Though that was changed due to player feedback which honestly? THANK GOD. No one likes that specific part of Animal Crossing and I'm glad they ditched it
I'll be honest I just REALLY want to play around with the character creator and cute dinosaur options, but might as well make sure the actual game is something I'd like to play too lmao
in the game once you're finished with the tutorial, you'll have the option to completely change your lil guy up again whenever you want with the mirror in your room
I bought this game and was just going to play it for a couple of hours, but found myself still playing it at 2AM 😅 it's insanely fun and I'm such a nerd for dinosaurs and other Really Specific extinct animal species, so to be able to play a game that's polished and fun is such a treat!
@@isupposeiexist I'm definitely still keeping it in mind! Just will likely wait for a sale for it or wait for patches to come out that may change some stuff.
a very wonderful, lengthy and honest review! i have put 11 hours into the game so far and am loving every minute! it is nice to see that you played a lot of the game before giving a review, very appreciated. the devs are very passionate about this game and are already working on future updates/patches.
You can tilt the camera during all the decorating parts. Clicking middle mouse and moving rotates the camera. The big problem I had was decorating the shop, because a lot of the items feel designed to be on the wall or maybe more dedicated "shelves." Like smaller items or the movie posters you can get in the art category. So either I was missing something, or the shop itens felt incredibly half baked for customization. That being said, im loving the game. I was half and half on it because I knew I was burnt out on Animal Crossing NH before without playing much else in the genre... But the character designs and personalities sold me almost instantly. The island feels rich with character, and it makes it all the more endearing to build up the island.
Thanks for covering Amber Isle! This gem deserves far more recognition. One bug I have gotten often is that paleofolk will come up to haggle and say the price is too high, only to offer an even higher price. If you accept they repeat this, constantly going higher until you agree or haggle lower too many times and they go away disappointed lol One thing is that in the bottom left of the ui while decorating middle mouse rotates the angle of the screen. That top down view definitely makes things rough. I personally wish the grid was faded out, a lot. It’s so blinding, you don’t get a great view of your “build” until you’re there on foot. Otherwise it’s serviceable. Honestly the 100 score for both nature and decor is too low. You can easily achieve that. It would be nice if it was higher for larger regions like the mountain for example, give more insensitive to decorate. I still go beyond but still
Oh hey also you can move it from a top down view with the middle mouse button, it is also id explain it as dreamlight valley but your running tom nooks shop.
I love this game, i only have 2 problems with the game. 1: Dirt can literally make you thousands of amber and make the shop aspect almost uneeded. Where im at in game i can go gather dirt and make 20k amber and if i run the store all day i get about 20-25k amber... 2: The hang our system is a bit lackluster. You basically strap a leash on them and do some chores. I don't really have any suggestions for a fix, these are just the only places i can see needing a little more time in the oven. The big one is the hang out system, while you can make more amber quick selling with daily resources running the shop is fun enough to not just overlook for fast money. My only thoughts on the hang out system goes from easy bandaid fix to overhaul. Bandaid fix: Collect or craft items the paleofolk loves to gain friendship Overhaul: Add minigames you can play with paleofolk where the better you do the more friendship you make.
I think this is my favorite game of the entire year! Granted I still have a few other games that I'm looking forward to that are coming out this month. But this game has been such a delight, and has really feel that animal crossing shaped hole in my heart. I have very very few complaints about the game, and my complaints are hardly complaints at all, rather just things that I think would make the game a little easier. For example when a villager asks you to recommend a large item, I wish there was a sort of menu that would show up to tell you what size, material, and discipline the item is that you're hovering over. I also wish the game told you right out of the gate that you can fast travel with the pins on the map!! Overall the detail in this game is absolutely beautiful and you can tell how much of a labor of love this game was such a labor of love even down to the movements of the individual characters is so eye catching and resembles its character well. For example the mayor of shakes when standing still, and he walks with a limp while holding his hip. I'm not super thrilled with some of the ones on the beach but that's because I really don't like the beach character stereotypes lol. But they really do have vastly different characters and personalities. If you're on the fence about this game you could wait for a sale. But honestly I think it's absolutely worth the money. I am 20 hours in and don't regret a single moment.
I just recently bought the game on my steam deck. I’m gonna give it a try. I did love playing the demo. It was really great and it gives me a break away from Coral Island, dinkum fae farm and I will give you another update or I’m going to play right now so thanks for your video. I appreciate it.❤❤❤
The only issue I had with the game was the fact that I managed to soft lock myself during the tutorial phase and because of the autosave I couldnt go back to the previous day to redo my mess up. I used the inspiration to unlock a recipe that required 2 claws and Id only found 1 earlier and got soft locked because you get asked to make 2 of that item while not allowing you to leave the craft menu. There should be something added to the game that warns you that the recipe we're learning requires missing materials. I ended up shutting the game down and erasing that save entirely.
Hmmm I didnt think to try crafting 2 other items instead, when I kept trying to exit the menu it kept highlighting the item I learned so I figured I was stuck because of it.
my main worry for any critique of the game this early is that it will drive people away from an indie game that needs the money to improve, because they only see how bugged/incomplete it is without realizing it's been out for literally 2 days at the time of writing this comment. its going to be broken and its going to be a little bit lacking. thats how almost all week-one games are.
You are right but I don't think my review was harsh in anyway? I've played quite a few hours and the things that I have noted as negatives do not appear to be bugs.
Recettear!! One of my comfort games for sure. I go back to it every few years, but boy, has it aged. I'm holding out for a modern game to scratch the itch, and was hoping this one might do the job... if it doesn't, that's a bummer, but I'd still like to try it!
haven't played yet, and honestly love to have more dinosaur games esp. cozy ones. but honestly this game does seem very similar to paleo pines, like the art style, I also feel like the items you have to pick up look very much like the ones from paleo pines. I don't mind much as they both look like interesting games (I have played lots of paleo pines) and as long as a game's fun, I don't see the problem with it "copying" or basing off another game.
I love this game, you can customize your own dinosaur character, and no penalty for being sold out of the right product. Though I wonder how you can earn your saurname, it isn’t revealed at the beginning.
Honestly the technical issues people have had regarding bugs, soft locks, etc... is what has been keeping me away. I plan to pick this up after their next big update if it fixes these things.
I have experienced one visual glitch so far in that the dog like playable characters tails will glitch when wagging. Sometimes it goes too fast and clips into itself, sometimes the tip of the tail will stay glitched in the top most position while the rest of the tail moves. Otherwise, it's been a great game so far, totally agree with the entire video!
The character customization is a big draw for me! and the gameplay actually seems decent too. I'm not looking for new games rn, but I will definitely keep this one in mind for the future.

It was a tranquil afternoon, where laughter filled the air like music, and shadows danced on the cobblestone paths. Underneath this ancient sentinel, Elliot Silvertooth leaned against its sturdy trunk, his piercing blue eyes reflecting both mischief and curiosity. Maple Swiftwing, with her ethereal presence and striking blue eyes that seemed to capture every flicker of sunlight, fluttered gracefully nearby. She held a bouquet of wildflowers in her delicate hands, her gaze flickering between them and Elliot. “You know,” she began softly, “my mother always said that blue eyes symbolize fragility.” Elliot arched an eyebrow playfully. “Fragility? But I’ve seen you soar through storms and face challenges head-on! Blue may represent delicacy to some, but it’s also the color of clear skies after rain-hopeful and free.” A soft smile crept onto Maple’s lips as she twirled a flower between her fingers. “Perhaps you’re right,” she mused. “But there’s something about how people see me... They think I’m fragile because of my eyes.” Her voice wavered slightly. At that moment, Mayor Clawsworth approached with his usual air of authority-the kind that commanded respect yet carried a hint of warmth. His brown eyes sparkled with wisdom born from years of experience and hard decisions. “And what do my brown eyes signify?” he asked jovially as he joined them. Elliot chuckled lightly. “Seriousness? A no-nonsense view on life?” Clawsworth shook his head with a grin. “Not quite! Brown represents stability-the steadfastness in navigating life’s complexities.” He leaned closer, lowering his voice conspiratorially. “Though I sometimes wish I could see life through your vibrant hues.” Maple looked up at Clawsworth, intrigued by his perspective. "But isn’t it true that seeing things seriously can sometimes be limiting?" “Ah,” Clawsworth replied thoughtfully. "There’s balance in perspectives-yours brings creativity while mine anchors us when we drift too far." Just then, Adi entered the scene-a whirlwind of energy with bright green eyes that sparkled with mischief. "What are you all doing discussing eye colors like it's some philosophical debate? Shouldn’t we be planning our next adventure instead?" Elliot shrugged playfully but couldn’t help but admire Adi's enthusiasm for life amidst their deep conversation. "It seems our gazes have drawn us into reflections about ourselves." Adi smirked mischievously before turning serious for a moment. "Well then," he proposed dramatically, "let's make it an adventure! Each of us must find someone in town who embodies our eye color's meaning!" The group fell into laughter at Adi's audacity; yet within each chuckle lay an unspoken understanding-each one was defined not just by their eye colors but by their actions and hearts. As twilight enveloped Amber Isle in hues of orange and purple, they embarked on their quest-sharing stories about villagers whose lives reflected their own interpretations: those who carried fragility like Maple or seriousness like Clawsworth; individuals who wore vibrant hopes or hidden depths behind their gazes. Through this journey across their beloved isle, connections blossomed deeper than surface appearances; they discovered how each character strengthened the community tapestry woven from diverse threads-fragile blues dancing among grounded browns under brilliant greens. Finally returning under the oak tree once more, Maple felt lighter somehow; she had found strength in her fragility through others’ stories reflecting hers back to her-a revelation sparkling brighter than any sunset. “I understand now,” she said quietly to Elliot as dusk settled around them like soft velvet curtains. “My blue doesn’t diminish my spirit; it enhances it through shared vulnerabilities.” “And I see now that seriousness is not just weight-it’s depth,” Clawsworth added solemnly yet warmly. With hearts intertwined beneath a sky blanketed with stars illuminating endless possibilities ahead-their bond forged not only by physical attributes but shared experiences-they embraced each other's differences wholeheartedly. In that moment beneath their cherished oak tree-with colorful dreams blooming brightly-they knew together they could navigate life’s palette… one adventure at a time. --- **Alternative Plot Twists:** 1. **A Mysterious Stranger:** A newcomer arrives in Amber Isle with peculiar golden eyes that seem to hold secrets untold. 2. **A Challenge:** The group decides to host a festival centered around eye colors where villagers share personal stories tied to their experiences. 3. **Romantic Confessions:** As tensions rise during discussions about identity and perspectives, hidden feelings begin to surface between Elliot and Maple. Ultimately though-their tale is painted by individual journeys converging into one vibrant portrait known as friendship-and perhaps love-that would flourish beyond mere appearances into something timelessly beautiful. *The Meaning Behind the Eye Colours* Personality of those with green eyes Green eyes are the rarest. People who have eyes of this color are characterized by being independent, unpredictable and rarely get angry. These subjects are very mysterious, original, creative and even fascinating. In fact, according to legends, green eyes descend from the Water Lilies of the lakes, or very beautiful female figures who were difficult to conquer. Personality of those with blue eyes It is one of the most envied and suggestive colors. People who have eyes of this color lead their lives with extreme wisdom and appear rather shy and reserved. Having blue eyes has always been considered a virtue, in fact these people are often envied or, at least, appreciated for the color of their eyes. Furthermore, women with blue eyes tolerate pain better during childbirth. Personality of those with black or dark brown eyes It is one of the most common colors. People with black or dark brown eyes are very dynamic, courageous, good at sports and fight avidly to achieve their goals. In addition, people with this color love the good life and drinking alcohol. These people are usually described as enigmatic and pleasant. Personality of those with hazel or light brown eyes Hazel eyes resemble wood, a natural material. People with light brown or hazel eyes usually have a very sweet and kind personality. They are balanced people, sometimes introverted and who love their independence. The color of their eyes can also vary, appearing darker or lighter depending on the light or the color of their clothes. Personality of those with gray eyes Gray eyes are rare, they are nothing more than a variation of the blue eye. People with this iris color have a personality with different facets and are constantly looking for a balance.
Honestly i expected more on the island decor side since they advertized this as a animal crossing inspired game, also you cant visit other guy's islands so far so, i will hold myself until they confirm some sort of multiplayer, otherwise, i dont see much point on this game
I never had that problem personally and I know a few people that have played it now. I think the main recommendation would be to play the whole beginning part in one sitting.
@@Fleurs_ah I don’t have Twitter so I didn’t know. That’s unfortunate cause I don’t have a pc that can run the game even at the minimum settings. At least I now know so I don’t get confused or disappointed for finding out later.
Well dang I wish I had known there was a switch version. Otherwise I would've waited to buy it on steam 😭 My hp laptop is hating running the game and my hope is the switch would handle it better
I keep getting stuck on the screen when going to the craft table I'm the shop. I always have to force close the game. What do I need to do or who do I contact?
I really want to like this game, but myself I keep getting so deeply frustrated because i feel like I'm not allowed to figure anything out by myself in the game. Adi or someone else is *constantly* there to tell me what to do, and I'm not allowed to do *anything* else during the tutorial quests except the objective. just... ;-;
@izzywolf7434 never heard of it! I would buy it on steam on PC however Erm idk if that's like a steam key bundle site but if so I wouldn't be interested
The game interested me, but I can't stand the idea of running a shop. Setting prices, trying to game profit margins, haggling?! No. Absolutely not. I want a fun, casual game that I can do things I want and play nice with cute villagers. Running a shop sounds too damn stressful.
Totally valid feelings! I will say the game doesn't force you to run the shop at specific times and the actual gameplay of the shop felt pretty laid back to me. Also, you can sell items through other methods to make money. I often found myself going a little while without opening the shop and I didn't pay that much attention to setting the prices.
the shopkeeping aspect doesn’t sound like it’d be my thing, but i’d be really excited if the devs make another game in this same setting! i’d love to play sth like a farming sim where you grow extinct plants and fungi
I bought the game on day of release. Im personally enjoying it wuite a bit. I however havent wanted to make a say about any bugs because im not sure which is avtually a bug with the game or if my laptop (which lacks the uh, thing required for games sometimes), is wigging out. For example my boyfriend explained to me that the split tail on the raptor going bonkers, is my computer trying to process the graphics on the same thing that its loading the game through itself. Meaning its doing two processing things on the graphics system. 😭 At least thats how i understood it. And then sometimes lagging but i think thats also a my hp Laptop problem and not a problem with the game. Other than that it does run decently smoothly and i still quite enjoy it. I only just barely unlocked the mountain area so im waiting to leave a review on steam fully. But your review is pretty solid. And it is fsir that people do want to wait for bugs to be polished out. I just think some should try the demo if its still up. If tgere was one. I recall there being a demo. So if anyone in the comments isnt sure about the game yet. I think there was a free demo and if its still available. You can try that out as well. I will say i am glad the shop running feature once you get it going, you dont have to open every single day or all day. You can do one shift and then go and do other things instead afterward. Zsually only have to open the shop at specific times at the start of the game during the introduction, tutorial and such.
Wait, you start with a debt? "Hey, you look like you have nothing to do, we desperatly need a new shopkeep, why don't YOU pay us to help us?" "Lol, no?" Wild premise...
That's what animal crossing does so if you've played that. Then it's not necessarily a foreign concept. It's still weird but when I played this game my perception was the fees were a source of the mayor being old and grumpy
@@r4ts311 My argument: The graphics are not pleasant enough for a chill gaming experience, nor is the gameplay. There are other games more polished than this. But the soundtrack is nice, at least.

In that moment beneath their cherished oak tree-with colorful dreams blooming brightly-they knew together they could navigate life’s palette… one adventure at a time.

**Alternative Plot Twists:**
*The Meaning Behind the Eye Colours*
Personality of those with green eyes
Green eyes are the rarest.
Personality of those with blue eyes
It is one of the most envied and suggestive colors.
Personality of those with black or dark brown eyes
It is one of the most common colors. People with black or dark brown eyes are very dynamic, courageous, good at sports and fight avidly to achieve their goals. In addition, people with this color love the good life and drinking alcohol. These people are usually described as enigmatic and pleasant.
Personality of those with hazel or light brown eyes
Hazel eyes resemble wood, a natural material. People with light brown or hazel eyes usually have a very sweet and kind personality. They are balanced people, sometimes introverted and who love their independence. The color of their eyes can also vary, appearing darker or lighter depending on the light or the color of their clothes.
Personality of those with gray eyes
Gray eyes are rare, they are nothing more than a variation of the blue eye.
Same I really want multiplayer I want to play this game with my friends
I'd probably wait until bug fixes start coming out, I've seen many reviews saying it's easy to soft lock your self.
I never had that problem personally and I know a few people that have played it now. I think the main recommendation would be to play the whole beginning part in one sitting.
Great review. Thanks Fleur.
Thanks Katie!
Haggling is tedious.
Wait it’s coming out on Switch on November 21?
I thought it was October 31. Did the Switch ver get delayed?
They delayed it the other day. The announcement was on their twitter.
Otherwise I would've waited to buy it on steam 😭
My hp laptop is hating running the game and my hope is the switch would handle it better
I keep getting stuck on the screen when going to the craft table I'm the shop. I always have to force close the game. What do I need to do or who do I contact?
I would try joining their discord!
I really want to like this game, but myself I keep getting so deeply frustrated because i feel like I'm not allowed to figure anything out by myself in the game. Adi or someone else is *constantly* there to tell me what to do, and I'm not allowed to do *anything* else during the tutorial quests except the objective. just... ;-;
Appriciate the review thank you!!! I think I'll be waiting for a sale though
It is on sale on humble bundle if that's something you'd use!
@izzywolf7434 never heard of it! I would buy it on steam on PC however
Erm idk if that's like a steam key bundle site but if so I wouldn't be interested
Plz try that Dutch shop game you will love it
what game?
@@Thundercatz911I'd imagine it to be "Winkeltje: The Little Shop"
You know the games gonna be good when the reviewer has to like triple swear they haven’t been payed
At least thats how i understood it.
Animal Crossing does the same thing lol.
That's what animal crossing does so if you've played that.
Then it's not necessarily a foreign concept. It's still weird but when I played this game my perception was the fees were a source of the mayor being old and grumpy
Pass, its not for me
This one is a big PASS.
why?
@@r4ts311 My argument: The graphics are not pleasant enough for a chill gaming experience, nor is the gameplay. There are other games more polished than this. But the soundtrack is nice, at least.
@sonicdragon75 The artstyle is very similar to Animal Crossing though? Just more detailed and creative.
Can you be chill about it? Just say you aren't interested, no need to yell about it.
@@foxpatternedferret476 Whose yelling? I can dislike a game, it's in the constitution. lol
