You should put your archers infront, as they now automatically skirmish backwards as the enemy gets close. They are also more hesitant to shoot over friendly troops. This is how it was done in real life, archers were too the front, they would fire a couple of volleys and the infantry would move forward and envelop the archers back to the rear.
If you start a new campaign that issue shouldn't be as common, there was a bug where generals weren't replenishing their armies. That led to snowballs. This has supposedly been fixed already.
i know about the patch notes, but it has not been completely fixed. they just fixed the defeated lords being harassed by bandits and the broken defection , expect more changes soon

One of the things I appreciate the most about M&B is how ez they have made modding it, and how many great mods kept me playing Warband for years. In many ways a lot of the mods added better content and UI than vanilla, now that Bannerlord is starting with so much done right, I can't wait to see how some mods can even improve on it. I haven't looked into it much yet, but seems like Taleworlds has made tools and modding even more powerful for creators too! In today's game environment where so many studios are becoming restrictive with such things, I'm thankful Bannerlord is shaping up to be more than I had hoped and supporting the mod community, the mods were have already is amazing for alpha, and the full conversions coming I know will just blow me away.
I'm pretty sure that the problem in 1000 unit sieges was with pathing and ladders. They seemed to patch that shit up and the sieges work fine now with 1000 soldiers (with i9-9900k, 2070 Super, 16Gb 3400MHz DDR4, M.2 SSD).
Excellent review Mack I can't wait for a few years when this is fleshed out and we get mods like game of thrones or other major ones, this has potential to be the best thing since sliced bread
Because we all know already that the devs intend to release very powerful modding tools after release. Similar games like Total War have gimped the modding potential of recent games, it's a real slap in the face to fans.
Mack, you have GOT to try the multiplayer Captain game mode with some of your mates. It is one of the most fun multiplayer game modes I’ve ever played in any game.
Being a merchant is totally viable because a you don't need combat ability to drive your enemies before you and hear the lamentation of their women. You just need a couched lance. 130 damage is the normal result of the first hit.
Can confirm will absorb you. I didn't play any of the prior series, and I am 55 hours played in 1 week. This is also with me willingly forcing myself to do other things on some days so I don't get into a war and spent 1am-7am defending my cities from hordes of dirty Aesari.
My first save corrupted so I said I’d play multiplayer until it got boring then start a new save, but I’ve fallen in love with multiplayer. Such chaos, but so much fun.
How can you call it Bannerlord and not have flag carriers in your army? If they added company banners and give you the ability to designate morale/give orders via flags (like they used to in the olden times) that would be a great bonus. Imagine having the ability to give orders based on what flags your army has left - including the ability to pick it up yourself to rally your troops - then carrying it on your horse and charging forward. Another suggestion is to add musicians like buglers and drummers to give orders. I think you gave a review about a Napoleonic war game and there you said the ability to give orders is based on getting messengers or officers to actually deliver messages to other parts of your army. Maybe these 2 suggestions are too ambitious but so far the game looks very promising so far and I agree with your review.
Glad you're liking the game as much as me. The thing is, everyone forgets to mention how much better the horse riding is. In warband horses were so damn clunky, now it's so much fluid, love it.
Been waiting for your review specifically. Amazing review. Keep up the good work. I'm going to subscribe to your patreon once I get paid. You deserve it.
I would add that you don't necessarily need to make a band right away. I found that running by myself for a while let me level way quicker during the early game.
I was fighting 30 steppe bandits with 10 legionaries and a handful of cavalry, put the infantry in the circle while the horse archers peppered the shields and then they charged in. Might have been a small fight, but it was my favorite so far

2) I'm using your link to grab this game.
3) I would LOVE for you to make a video on your character's adventures in this world. Just the little snippets of how immersed you got makes me think they will be exceptionally entertaining and well done.
Good review, thank you! May I ask to compare this game vs Kingdom come deliverance? To me they have a lot in common, aren’t they?
except for being in the medieval times and fighting with swords, everything else is different
If you spam the escape key when in an infinite loading screen for a siege that has fixed it.
I can’t wait for the lord of the rings mod to come out for this game - kingdoms of Arda
What you forgot to mention, is that in this game, you can fucking behead any lord or king that you imprison after defeating them in battle. And the best part is, it makes their kingdom/faction absolutely hate you.
My dreams have come true.
I waited so eagerly for this review. You made my day Mack!
MACK! its so good to see you enjoy a game so much. and the way you analysed the game here reminded me of all the reasons I back you as the most valuable "critic" (how do u prefer to be referred to?) out there. stay safe and healthy man
Mac turning off ally emblems for immersion
I actually did the same thing after seeing it, sometimes its hard to know whos friend and foe but it makes the battles feel much cooler
@@caesarvalorvmsheevpalpatin8755 I got too used to it in Warband so I'm running Bannerlord with them turned off, it makes you focus from the beginning of the battle on the movement of your troops
@@bmbm1 With unarmoured troops its easy to spot the colours of the factions, but when it comes to like cataphracts or guys covered in armour, I have to examine everyones shields for their banners, too many times Im chasing/attacking someone and wondering if its actually an enemy lmao
So much enthusiasm on Mack's voice...I knew the game was worth the second he started talking about the game :).
Nice review as always.
it looks like Total War Rome 2 in steroids... I want it, but I'm gonna wait for a bit more polish. It's still in early access after all.
...you're only making yourself suffer unnecessarily...
I looked at my bank account. It looked slim. I saw bannerlord released.
I buy.
If you played m&b with fire and sword, this game is a abdolut unit. Even in early access.
I tried out Warband and it was just too dated for me. This game looks awesome, though. Excited to play it.
I think I'm going to let this stew for about a month, so the big issues can be patched out.
They're honestly doing a fantastic job patching out the biggest issues. There have been patches almost every day since it released fixing the most major problems people are having such as crashes and performance issues, bugged quests and so forth. It's only been out 7 days and already there has been an enormous improvement.
@@Aethelhald good then a month from now it should be good enough to buy :)
RantKid it’s good enough to buy now. If you do it now you will get 10 percent off. Why wait?
RantKid if you had one of the previous games you will get 20% off!
Worth buying now because of the extra discount but you're right, you'll have a much more consistent experience if you leave it for a few weeks. Same thing happened with Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
Today I reminded myself why I follow this channel. It is because it is ''pretty darn helpful''. Here I was scrolling for the last few days(before this review was uploaded) through other ''worth a buy'' videos of bannerlord and all these videos were represented by geeks that were frankly not even showing a relevant review but were only expressing their enthusiasm. I'm grateful there is always Mack who is down to earth and shows why I should really buy a game. Thanks for this Mack, it is appreciated!
Thanks for the review. Now I feel safe to buy this game.
Mac, do you still play this? I am thinking about picking it up (September 2020)
Omg! That one made me laugh out loud big time! I didn't just kill him, I killed his son too!!!! Haha! Mack had fun with this one!
My save game files have crazy names like yours too Mack. Truly an incredible game in the making right now. Can't wait to see what happens when it's fully fleshed out.
I was holding off buying this waiting for your review - but I caved and got it yesterday. I was almost put off by all the bad reviews, but boy, like you say, this is a lot of fun. This is warband, this is bannerlord!
People expect too much out of developers like this, unfortunately.
Cheers bud, looking forward to seeing some steams of this if you are putting some on TH-cam. Also the campfire tale. Stage safe mate, hope you and the family are well and staying sane in the lockdown.
Guess what’s finally out of early access
This game need to make love to crusader kings 3

My reaction also ://
My guy has been through so much hardship but he’s had so many f#%*ing victories… I rewound and watched that part over and over again laughing out loud. Immediate subscribe :-)

Ah I did not know that, I just do what I did in Warband, I will try this today.
it's an amazing game! unfortunately i can't start the long campaign i wish for because for me some faction always takes over the world by day 500
Adrian M. They are working on fixing that. A lot of people had that problem
If you start a new campaign that issue shouldn't be as common, there was a bug where generals weren't replenishing their armies. That led to snowballs. This has supposedly been fixed already.
It’s fixed as of the past 2-3 patches
i know about the patch notes, but it has not been completely fixed. they just fixed the defeated lords being harassed by bandits and the broken defection , expect more changes soon
Brill! Long time lurker and follower here. Love your No BS style and uncompromising reviews Mack! Make Games Great Again, indeed. Keep reaming the industry, where appropriate! (not applicable in the case of Bannerlord)
Btw - trying to buy Bannerlord and RDR2 on Greenman Gaming with the intent to use your affiliate link, so you get some support. Hope clicking the link at the top will accomplish that? Buying these as a direct result of your reviews and my trust in you. Thx for all your great work - keep it up!
5:40 that geezer in the helmet at the back is staring at me...
Uhhhh.....
I have never quite played a game like this before, I start a session up and when I look at the time again 3 hours have gone by and I haven’t even realised. It’s very very addictive you always want to do that next thing to get you stronger, grind a little more to get that armour you want, improve your troops to take on that bigger enemy army, gain more influence so you can win the next castle/city your faction takes in their current war. I now know why warband was praised so highly. Such a fantastic game.
Mack i'm afraid its Calradia not Caldaria
Yeah well it's whatever comes out my mouth lol
@@WorthABuyreviews Fair enough lol, loved the review btw man i've been enjoying the game myself.
How have I not found this game before!! Looks awesome... And just the mix of RTS, First Person and fully customizable characters, back story etc... I'm just pissed I never saw it before!!
IGN gave this gem a 6/10 lol
Thanks for always delivering honest reviews. We all appreciate you not being bought and paid for reviews.
Their review was hilarious!
Did someone pay them to review it poorly...? What about the many single-developer indie titles they reviewed positively?
Was that the review where the guy charged into a fence, then a tree, then the entire enemy army and got rekt in 5 seconds?
Worth A Buy yes Mack that exact guy lol
@@WorthABuyreviews to be fair, 1) he was talking while playing which doesnt bode well in games where you need to think. Plenty of youtube reviewers say this.
2) he wasnt rekt...he won the battle and only lost men. What video were you watching? He also admitted it was a dumb mistake, like none of us have made those.
3) how does this delegitimize his review in general?
I cant agree more with this review, I haven't actually been this addicted to a game in many years.
ahha ''lets have a quick look at the graphical options '' when i go to options, all i get is a blurred screen with the text ''audio'' and i cant press anything, after that my game crashes everyt single time on a pc that can run 4k ultra high mhw iceborne with no issue and 80+ fps, XD yet this pile of wank i cant even play because it crashes every time i press campaign, havent even see the character menu after 15 attempth and 6 reinstalls,
NEW UPDATE. 1.06 MADE IT WORK! in native.exe under your folder
Bloody hell that sounds terrible, I know a few people have issues, I had a few myself, nothing like that though.
@@WorthABuyreviews i was hoping for this game for so long, my biggest hype moment was when i installed the game, eyes like big diamonds, opening the game, and not being able to play, shattered my world,
@@MikkiZHskDK You probably tried it already but if not try to verify the files in steam or just a reinstall. Check your graphics driver is up to date aswell.
Oh that sucks. I have an ancient PC (i7 4880, 780) and it has never crashed or anything like that.
had tons of crashes as well i removed all game files even hidden ones. it still crashes but bit less. Also happens that some action lead to crashes so i run like 3 save files in different range so i can avoid unavoidble crashes.
Caldaria?
CALDARIA?
Damnit mack. Beep your horn.
It's calradia.
Yea ://

I had a feeling you were going to thumb it up but I wanted to wait and make sure. Getting it now on GMG
Does this game have an auto-resolve option for the battles like the Warhammer games do?
Yes
It does. You can also press F6 and your units will command themselves so you just watch.
Its finally here fam! We've waited almost a decade for this REVIEW!
Wish I had your specs :l Hopefully I'll be able to buy your parts six years from now second hand.
Excellent review Mack
I can't wait for a few years when this is fleshed out and we get mods like game of thrones or other major ones, this has potential to be the best thing since sliced bread
I just love how there are so many community patch mods already :)). It's the game that was made by and for passionate gamers and devs.
This video was the most highly anticipated video for me on YT, i even thought of bringing the popcorn and oversized coke for it.
Being a merchant is totally viable because a you don't need combat ability to drive your enemies before you and hear the lamentation of their women. You just need a couched lance. 130 damage is the normal result of the first hit.
Thank you, I was almost convinced to buy it, was just waiting for the WAB. Now I'm fully convinced.
How deep does the story go that you make? For instance can I become my own king? How much do I affect the world beyond just the battlefield?
3:16 First time I'm playing as a fat cat trader in mount and blade and this pretty much sums up how I sound on the battlefield
In the Warband I basically just did that because I sucked at it.
Daily patches -- these devs are awesome. Proper early access. Money well spent.
You sound so excited and happy for this game release. So happy for you.
Look at him lads, he didn't review it instantly, he understood the game and then he shared it with us.
“The hoooorns sound *squeak*” hahaha you got me dying here that was too good
I like how their are battle lines in this version. Warband had tiny circuler clusters of fighting in its place.
I had it open in a tab since it came out waiting for this review. Thank you.
on your recommendation alone I bought the game from the link in your channel. cheers for the recommendation Mack, been after something different and you've never sheared me wrong in the past! except for when I bought Dark Souls 3 PC after the sarcasm at the start and then after I carried on with the video I realised it was sarcasm. I learnt then! lmao
Oh man, I absolutely lost it @ tracking the guy that imprisoned his companion around the whole damn world, to not just execute him but HIS SON TOO !!!! DING DING DING !!!
Worth A Buy - your reviews are my happy place.
Didn't feel like reviewing the multiplayer part of the game? Or that coming later?
Glad to hear you're enjoying the game Mack! I went ahead and grabbed it via your GMG link since I've been eyeballing it anyways. Stay safe!
This M&B iteration is my first one and I absolutely love it and regret I missed out on all the others and I fully appreciate the sandbox nature of it. It's incredible.
