Worm Glue , it's a good idea and if it works it could eliminate the use of stitches. The glue would simply fall off or wears away after healing so no need for double surgery of stitch removal.
They might not even need the worms in the future. They can probably find or even create a synthetic compound closely matching that of the worms extract. For the mean time I am sure they would be grown in some kind of laboratory where they have a method of collecting its extracts left behind by the worms.
Would I want to stick my heart with worm-glue, I will be fine with worm-poop glue if that does the job and get my heart running. Whatever the scientists say man.
This sounds pretty awesome I just hope they complete it and get it into regular use soon. My mum had a hysterectomy a couple years ago but the stitches they gave her led to complications because they didn't dissolve like they should have.
I definitely see this as a key to progress, bolstering our scientific knowledge with more natural, sustainable methods. Sounds much better to massage a worm for its glue than to create a production factory to create materials for surgical sealing. Less stitch scars, too!
Surfers in Cali really need to know this. If you bail into a reef or rock and slice yourself open, this would be a handy bit of information to have. I mean, you wouldn't have to go far to find one.
Sounds really good. But what about scar tissue? does that mean it would leave less of one or any at all? I have heard that in some cases where the person has had several operations simply cannot have another surgery's due to the previous scar tissue from past operations. My friends daughter was blind from birth and had several operations. As time went on they found better technology that may give her sight but the issues was the scar tissue, so they never did go further.
I think the made another video about a protein that is produced by humans but shuts off as we get older and it helps with "regeneration". and we can theoretically make bandages that eliminates scarring.
Yes. As long as it's sterile. Sutures and staples are painful, I don't care what the surgeons say. They are! I'd love to be glued together after surgery.
I always wanted a case of worms. No, I mean an actual case of worms. What better way to prank a Walmart bathroom. Just sneak it in underneath of a baby carrier in a shopping cart, take it out from underneath of it in the hallway next to the bathroom, go into the bathroom and sprinkle the case all around the stalls and urinals, then leave the case outside of the bathroom door. The next days newspaper headline would read " Walmart recieves a case of the worms ". Bwahahahaha ...
Let's see if I understand this right? Scientists are in laboratories massaging their worms until they spew out some kind of biological goo? (haha... no further questions)
Stitches can leave ugly ass scars on top of the original scars, I'd love to be glued back together instead haha (coming from a guy with a bigass ugly scar from skin cancer surgery)
SO cool.. One question: Our skin is there for a myriad of reasons - not the least of which, though, is to protect us from UV radiation yes? Should we really be firing a blast of UV into our internal organs to help the adhesive set???
Everything needs to be balanced. UV rays can do nasty damage, but usually only with massive/continuous exposure. A slice in a heart will kill you a lot quicker. It's potentially a justified risk (of course, research is needed to see how the risks actually pan out).
Well, ya.. Glue is better because it leaves smaller scar and it's easier to heal than stitching, it also simple because you don't have to take out the stitches.
in theory you could use this to stop large life threatening cuts , paramedics could have a a tube of this with some uv light and bam that huge bloody wound should be easily closed up , i guess you can also use it instead of band aids for minor cuts assuming its not expensive
Personally I've been using superglue all my life as an alternative to a hospital visit for only a few stitches in a smallish wounds. It's great for patching up the cracks/splits I get in the skin on my hands.
Omg how cool is that next time I get cut open with my colon cancer I wish I wood have an opportunity to test it out so it wood be able to help people more I wood think then just cutting you oppen and then having stitches because of the risks of infection but wow that's crazy news thanks for making this cool video I had no idea about this interesting news in tell I saw this video so thank you for the heads up keep up the great video your TH-cam frend podfun
This reminds me of how maggots are used to clear a wound of dead flesh--they won't eat the living tissue and it's more efficient than a doctor cutting it out (they have to cut out extra to be sure it's done right). Nature: creepy but awesome!
Seeing that I have damage to my heart due to a doctor screwing up, I would love to see what can come of this. I have no SV node and all things I have read about fixing this, so I am no longer dependent on the pacemaker, would require the heart to be opened up directly. Yeah slime me up, I want to live longer. I want to see my 30's, 40's and so on. If I had to I'd drink to slime if drinking it could fix my heart.
Kinda like hippo sweat sun screen. I think it's great we look to nature to fix our problems finally... really it's solved all our human problems through years and years of trial and error.
fascinating, the bit i liked best was the idea of massaging that weird worm, oh, is this going to be the next MacDonalds? every acne ridden kid massaging worms?

The thought of using worm goo to stick skin or organs together sounds weird and disgusting but there are a lot of other thing that we use that aren't as appealing as that.
This is great news maybe one day all organ surgery can be done using slime from this specie of slug removing the need to re open someone just to take stiches out.
Really cool! My one question is if you are putting a foreign protein in a human body how do you not have problems with the immune system attacking that location.
Worm Glue , it's a good idea and if it works it could eliminate the use of stitches. The glue would simply fall off or wears away after healing so no need for double surgery of stitch removal.
Good job, that's what the video just said.
YmirokkPlays Except he didn't even get the part where internal glue is absorbed rather than floating around in bits.
Have I seen you before?
Swan The video did, you'd have to watch [past 2:00 min though. Kids really have no attention span.
Derek Hilgefort
I have too and this is the first sane thing he's said. LOL
Massage to let out their sticky stuff...Nicely said
"...give 'em a little massage and then the sticky stuff comes out."
-Trace Dominguez
Do you think, he planned that? It was a little...too perfect...
Sounds like something Butter's from South Park would say.
gMUNDO Vargas I think he kind of realised what he was saying halfway through xD
Do they return the worms after using them? I mean, that's a pretty cool ecosystem their disrupting - worms that engineer coral reefs!
Or maybe they just pick some of worm pairs and they will reproduce themselves, then bring the original back to its place
its oze not eggs
They might not even need the worms in the future. They can probably find or even create a synthetic compound closely matching that of the worms extract. For the mean time I am sure they would be grown in some kind of laboratory where they have a method of collecting its extracts left behind by the worms.
Heartworming.
I've ripped me leg off, get to worm glue son.
They say it happened from a surgery gone wrong, Worm Man!!
Would I want to stick my heart with worm-glue, I will be fine with worm-poop glue if that does the job and get my heart running. Whatever the scientists say man.
I misread the title as "How Women Can Fix Your Heart"
hah, so did I! "Women can fix my heart? Thats a new one, I thought they only broke them.."
why not? as long as it's bio compatible! :)
id vote for more thorough research on possible side effects
I'd love to hear more about this as more research is done and questions answered.
And here I thought I was gonna hear Futurama references.
This is awesome, less work for surgeons and better for the patient!
I would be in a lot of pain at the time. I wouldn't care if you use sticky shit to glue me up.
This sounds pretty awesome I just hope they complete it and get it into regular use soon. My mum had a hysterectomy a couple years ago but the stitches they gave her led to complications because they didn't dissolve like they should have.
2:00 they give them a little massage causes them to sqeeze out their sticky stuff.. So thats the hype of becoming a doctor..
I definitely see this as a key to progress, bolstering our scientific knowledge with more natural, sustainable methods. Sounds much better to massage a worm for its glue than to create a production factory to create materials for surgical sealing.
Less stitch scars, too!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for mentioning research assistants.

This is an improvement. I like it.
Let's see if I understand this right? Scientists are in laboratories massaging their worms until they spew out some kind of biological goo? (haha... no further questions)
Yeah... not funny...
Jay Patel yes, funny. :)
Jay Patel I liked it!
All for the sake of science!
Motha fucken Science :D fuck yea nature.
This is exciting stuff!!
as long as i am not concious when the worm is in sight, im okay with them fixing me up.
Given that the worm glue is extracted in a different room, I don't think you'll ever see the worms.
Trace only my girlfriend calls me Worm Handler.
So much awesome Science news. I love it.
If we can use bread mold as an antibiotic, I am certain that the glue used by aquatic worms can be useful as a medical adhesive.
as cool as this is, I'm sort of glad I was stitched up in the pre worm-glue days. The scars look pretty cool.
Stem cell bioadhesives should help to repair and hold the tissue together simultaneously.
trace is awesome!
Does it still leave a scar?
Worm handlers, squeeze out their sticky stuff, fix yourself with worm goo. Thanks Trace, now I can't get it out of my head...
Me after reading the title: i'm not sure if i'm ok with that.. Let's watch the video.
Me after the video: ok, yeah that's pretty cool.
Now that is a Really good Scince Neew =)
^.^ where's the lab? I need my worm massaged
Some people might disgust it but it is better than stitches because it lessens the healing time
If it works better than stitches and holds strong without the wound reopening then I would definitely try it.
"they give them a little massage, causing them to squeeze out their sticky stuff"
Science is what makes man powerfull !
I have no problem with that! As long as It helps people live it gets the green stamp from me!
So long as its not made by Giant Mongolian Death-Worms...
...I think we're fine here... ¬____¬
Nature provides.

More research & studying!
Now I've seen everything.
Well, ya.. Glue is better because it leaves smaller scar and it's easier to heal than stitching, it also simple because you don't have to take out the stitches.
I wouldnt mind if they tested that with me. sounds very interesting
I'm not sure what to think about this.
Worm glue? Bring it on!
in theory you could use this to stop large life threatening cuts , paramedics could have a a tube of this with some uv light and bam that huge bloody wound should be easily closed up , i guess you can also use it instead of band aids for minor cuts assuming its not expensive
Very cool !!
Now when we say, "I've got worms," it might be a good thing.
If it saves my life... I. Dont. Give. A. Shit.
Personally I've been using superglue all my life as an alternative to a hospital visit for only a few stitches in a smallish wounds. It's great for patching up the cracks/splits I get in the skin on my hands.
Superglue was originally made for patching up wounds back in the 2 World War's so that's why it works so well.
I guess it's fitting that worms have 5 hearts.
you could say i'm worm to that idea...
What ever helps me live.
well I don't now if I want glue on me
will heart surgery patients still have scars?
sure, why not, as long as its not harmful
This reminds me of how maggots are used to clear a wound of dead flesh--they won't eat the living tissue and it's more efficient than a doctor cutting it out (they have to cut out extra to be sure it's done right).
Nature: creepy but awesome!
2:00 PAUSE.
ha ur really funny and cute lmaoo i love the end, broken worm fixing heart worms? lmaoo
Can this new tech. be used for a supplement for oxyn?
Whoa, that is one supremely gross looking worm.
Awesome. I would so use worm glue to fix myself!!!!
wormgasm all over your broken heart hahahaha
when I was 9/10 I had my appendix taken out and the wound was not stitched up, but glues 0_0 I want to cry now... ;-;
can consider spider silk or barnacle glue, not necessary worm glue.
Seeing that I have damage to my heart due to a doctor screwing up, I would love to see what can come of this. I have no SV node and all things I have read about fixing this, so I am no longer dependent on the pacemaker, would require the heart to be opened up directly. Just amazing
I wont mind getting fixed by worm glue
So when do we get the worms from Futurama?
Yay science! Jesus walked on water, science keeps you alive. Clearly we have a winner. :)
Nature is always better than machines
What are you watching TH-cam on? a rock?
it´s kinda sad that we´re not able to repair ourselves properly yet ^^
We are... it's just that some things are fatal without intervention.
Did you know that Glue was used to sow up wounds?
For the last 10 Years i have Been Eatin Warms I Am Never Havein A Heart problem
fascinating, the bit i liked best was the idea of massaging that weird worm, oh, is this going to be the next MacDonalds? every acne ridden kid massaging worms?
Fk yeah bout time worms start benefiting me
So nobody heard of absorbable sutures ? Which basically just gets absorbed after a few weeks so it would eliminate the need for a second surgery ??
If these baby steps are what it takes to give us Mass Effect's Medi-Gel, so be it!
yeah im also curious about it leaving a scar o.O im assuming it would just like normal healing
Why do we get bags under our eyes when we are tired and get very grumpy also?
Why does it feel tedious to be good, and good to be bad? Is there something in evolution wanting us to be bad?

I taught there was already some type of body glue bc my mom got surgery and they glue her cut shut no stitches nothing

Really cool! My one question is if you are putting a foreign protein in a human body how do you not have problems with the immune system attacking that location.
it depends on the protein , it seems this one is compatible with human immune systems
Omar abdul hadi the human immune system *
Omar abdul hadi first 1 is correct.
oh lol didn't notice the s at the end nvm
He just said in the video that it's biocompatible.
Worm jizz ftw
