I wasn't really impressed with Vietnam, I had a nice time but I don't think I would revisit. Hong Kong is nice, its changed over the last few years, but it's still a cool place.

I guess I have made this my base and love the secure community where I have Iived since I was 73 years old. I am happy to know that you are using your time, resources, and good health to follow your dreams. I have no regrets and am thankful that I was blessed to travel to all the wonderful places that I did years ago. Time flies, so enjoy every moment that you can.
I started watching you for Merida content, discovered while watching you I don't want to do all the cleaning, cooking and looking at prehistoric critters you have been doing in Merida. I didn't do all that living in Brazil! I'd been looking at Merida as a retirement relocation--that's now all in the air. Good luck on your travels and to less cooking, cleaning and prehistoric critters. Yes, I'll continue to follow your travels.
I did Merida for a year, gave it a try … but while it is good, it’s not great and there is “something” missing there… for as nice as it is, it has no soul. Will definitely follow your adventures.

I'm not the same person I was, and Merida has changed too.I don't love the city like I used too and really.just want to be back in my childhood home of Baja California I enjoy your travel videos! Baja California is definitely a different vibe! Haven't lived there but visited: Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada (which I was bored with), etc. It's so beautiful in that area and the energy is different. And America is nearby. 🤣 Even though when some people leave America they think they aren't going back. 🤣 Yucatan, Mexico may make you rethink that. 🤣 Some positives about Yucatan, Mexico are the insanely beautiful architecture in some places (the church in Hocaba, Yucatan for example!), cenotes (over 300 public cenotes in Homun), etc.
@RescueAlwaysOfficial It is very beautiful here in the Yucatan! But for my lifestyle it is not the right place for me. I like riding my motorcycle through the desert and spearfishing. The beaches here are so so, u have to go 3 hrs to cancun or Cozumel for clear water :( after being here off and on for 20 + years Baja sur is sounding like the right change. Not too fond of the pacific side
look at Panama City Panama if you haven't already. Lots of flights, discounted flights for pensioners, good transportation of all kinds including the metro train. BUT BE WARNED.... you will fall in love with the people and the culture and might find yourself settling in again :) . But it's the perfect place to venture out to other countries from. Now I like the food in Panama, but I'm from Louisiana raised on seafood and seafood is plentiful there, so I'm good. I also need to lose weight and find myself eating correctly when I'm there. I can't relocate because I'm obligated to my 96-year-old mom. But once that part of life is over I will be Panama bound. I already travel every other month and I will continue to do that from there. Good luck to you on making your dreams happen. Oh and I plan to hire out for all that cleaning, LOL!!!

Agree. I didn't see the draw that Merida seems to have and the food definitely is not on par with the rest of Mexico. Watch out for all the scammers in Egypt! Definitely recommend Istanbul and the south coast of Turkey. We are headed to Croatia in June. Good luck!!
For me, Merida was close to the south and east of the USA , I don’t understand it either other than some hyped it up. I plan to have a wonderful guide in Egypt and I think I will spend an extended time in Turkey ! Enjoy Croatia, it looks wonderful and people seem to have really enjoyed it!
Lived in Mersin for awhile and loved it (most of the time - until the coup) - then had to get the hell outta Turkey… and haven’t been back since! Hope things have gotten back to better

Hey Malika, I just read your comment on my channel. Thank you. It seems we're both in the same, or similar boat. Mérida has some good things for sure, but it's way overrated. 4 years is enough. I got my permanent residency which is great but it's time to move on. Funny how you mentioned the "stans". I like the idea of Thailand a lot but I'm so over humidity so I doubt Thailand will fit the bill although I'm sure I'd love the food and scenery and so forth. I'm thinking of cooler climates, Czech Republic, I don't know, something different. Anyway good luck selling and moving. I'm going through the same.
Hi Eric, Chiang Mai is cooler in the winter but then there is the burning season. Hey, what about Tblisi Georgia or Almaty Kazakhstan ? I considered either and both are beautiful. My good friend’s son was in Almaty for several years and loved it.
I think the test of knowing when you have found the right city is when you don’t want to leave. If you are living somewhere and thinking about the other places you can and want to visit, then it’s not it. But when you get to a city and feel “damn! I gotta go back home to visit my family…” that’s the place you wanna stay

Hola, Malikah! Wow, leaving Merida ... that doesn't surprise me. I'm a subscriber of your channel since your first interview by Cartess. I've noticed, a lot of TH-camrs are leaving The Yucatan Peninsula for obvious reasons after living or visiting the area, creating their own experience and judging for themselves. I'm also a traveler. My home base is in Colorado. I visited Cancun (January 2024) and it was nothing like The TH-camrs described. First of all, Cancun area is more expensive than the USA. Second, the temperature was over 95 degrees in January (a winter month). Third, I was haggled everywhere I went and hit with the gringo prices. Restaurants, souvenir shops, etc, etc ... everything I experienced was extremely expensive. The least expensive area I experienced was Isla Mujeres. However, that place was still more expensive than the USA. Therefore, in my experience, Cancun area is not considered paradise as described by The TH-camrs and it is not affordable or "cheap". Please believe it.
Yes, it does take one to find out for themselves, boots on the ground! I plan to visit Colorado while I am back in the US. I bought my favorite brand of snow boots Sorel, back in 2022 and have yet to wear them!

Some of the countries I visited to name a few included: Peru, Egypt, Dubai, Jamaica, Ethiopia, Canary Islands, Barcelona and 16 cruises to many Caribbean islands. I'm grateful. I was never interested in Merida, I just enjoyed your videos. 😊 I’ve learned from you (your) videos (and others) that I have no interest in living in another country full-time. I’ll keep my U.S. home base and come/go (travel) from here. I’ve already decluttered my home though, especially my closets! I’m now working on getting rid of (or donating) excessive “home decor” and knick-knacks. I’m not trying to be a minimalist but I no longer want all the “stuff”. Less stuff, more experiences is my motto nowadays. I look forward to continuing to follow your travel journeys.

I like europe for the travel reasons. Cheap transport everywhere. But love the idea of seeing more of mexico states and cities. Right now, i am am half the month in the states, the other half traveling europe. Works for me with my shared custody schedule.

Loved your video! I watch many travel content creators ( as part of my research before traveling ). You are absolutely right, people leave for many different reasons when it comes to different parts of the world, the heat in Merida can be a huge factor. But, overall everyone’s goal is different when it comes to traveling out of the US. Some of us want to see the world while others just want a place to catch a break enough to pull our heads out from under water. I’ll never judge any for going out there and finding what they want in life. I get it. I was a bopper for many years, and now I live in NYC as of 22 months ago. I needed to sit for a bit. I have been sitting for 2 years this July 2024, minus Puerto Rico for a month and Niagara Falls for a couple of weeks, and now, it is time to go the end of August for 3 months or so. Yes, I, too, have decided to keep the US as my base (free apartment LOL)and, I guess, be a flexpat, a new term. I love your videos and will continue to watch them as you gallivant. I could tell from your videos, from one bopper to another, that you would probably leave soon. I bought a lot of crap in NYC as well, and it makes me feel bogged down. But, it will stay here as I gallivant. Good luck with all of your travels. I will be watching them.

Yay for the ability to have a choice! We don't have to stay stuck anywhere! I did my 2 rounds in Merida and OMG, the food was sooooooo NOT for me! I lost at least 10lbs just by being hungry! The heat/The food had me rethink my plans seriously.

The food here is an absolute "No" for me in general! I almost never look forward to eating out, because I don't like the food here like that. I did have some AMAZING food at an Italian restaurant in Merida about 2 weeks ago. But that was the first time in over 2 years that I've been to a restaurant in this area that I absolutely want to return to.
You can also do backpacking travel , by staying some where for a week then from there go to another country and keep doing that and you would have covered a few places , so keep going on the move .... Maybe I will see you in Thailand sometime.

Glad you talked openly about leaving - so many other TH-camrs shame us if we comment that we want to leave - God forbid you say you don’t like the food in Mexico!!! Like you we don’t like the food - we miss so much our usa food options and we will go back in a few months when our lease expires. Mexico turned out not to be for us, but we gave it a fair try (a bit over 2 years by the time we move back). Can’t wait to go back home to the USA, which we appreciate so much more now (minus the politics)!!!
I don't care for the food either. This is some of the worst food I ever ate, overall! A lot of other travelers do NOT care for the food here either as I've seen in comment sections. So more people than we may realize agree about this. 🤣 I like empanadas, polcanes, rice and beans, guacamole (even though I almost never eat it), and not much else. If I never ate these foods (the way they make them here) again I wouldn't even notice. 🤣 I have become a fan of food shows since living here. Food in America, that is. 🤣 I watch a few TH-cam food shorts almost every day. 🤣
I did have some AMAZING food at an Italian restaurant in Merida about 2 weeks ago. But that was the first time in over 2 years that I've been to a restaurant in this area that I absolutely want to return to.
When I start traveling I’m going to set up to live In The hotel or some where cheap for 3 months then I’m moving on some where else .I’m not buying any furniture just eat & enjoy site see till my time is up move on

Hi and thanks . I just saw the video and unfortunately I already gifted a bed to someone else that needed one as well. I didn’t have to purchase a refrigerator . Hopefully someone will have one in the various groups here and maybe they would donate or accept a payment plan for her.
Aw. I have scorpions in my place. I have removed at least 4 in the past 7 months. I just take them- in an open, somewhat deep plastic container-a bit away from the house and put them in the bushes. I live in a jungle of sorts, so it's to be expected. I've had all kinds of different "bugs" come here. Furry spider, etc.
@@malikahonthemove ha ha! They never try to sting me. I put a small plastic- like the clear ones Chinese restaurants in America give you soup to go in- over the scorpion. Then sometimes I use a piece of paper to make sure it goes in. The I flip the container back up and go out towards the bushes and let it go. Often this is at night so I also have a flashlight. 🤣 The first one I ever saw in this home- I'd seen one before in Chelem when I lived by the river- was in my bed! Imagine my surprise! Luckily one of my cats who was in my bed was acting weird, and I saw some movement as whatever it was went under the blanket. It was cold here in Hocaba then. I turned on the light and lifted the blanket an what did I see? 🤣 I was expecting a gecko or something- even though I hadn't seen one in this house, as far as I remember.

Baja California is definitely a different vibe! Haven't lived there but visited: Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada (which I was bored with), etc.
It's so beautiful in that area and the energy is different. And America is nearby. 🤣 Even though when some people leave America they think they aren't going back. 🤣 Yucatan, Mexico may make you rethink that. 🤣
Some positives about Yucatan, Mexico are the insanely beautiful architecture in some places (the church in Hocaba, Yucatan for example!), cenotes (over 300 public cenotes in Homun), etc.
@RescueAlwaysOfficial It is very beautiful here in the Yucatan! But for my lifestyle it is not the right place for me. I like riding my motorcycle through the desert and spearfishing. The beaches here are so so, u have to go 3 hrs to cancun or Cozumel for clear water :( after being here off and on for 20 + years Baja sur is sounding like the right change. Not too fond of the pacific side

look at Panama City Panama if you haven't already. Lots of flights, discounted flights for pensioners, good transportation of all kinds including the metro train. BUT BE WARNED.... you will fall in love with the people and the culture and might find yourself settling in again :) . But it's the perfect place to venture out to other countries from. Now I like the food in Panama, but I'm from Louisiana raised on seafood and seafood is plentiful there, so I'm good. I also need to lose weight and find myself eating correctly when I'm there. I can't relocate because I'm obligated to my 96-year-old mom. But once that part of life is over I will be Panama bound. I already travel every other month and I will continue to do that from there. Good luck to you on making your dreams happen. Oh and I plan to hire out for all that cleaning, LOL!!!
How is the rainy season in Panama? Does it rain all day long, or just for a few hours every day?

Agree. I didn't see the draw that Merida seems to have and the food definitely is not on par with the rest of Mexico. Watch out for all the scammers in Egypt! Definitely recommend Istanbul and the south coast of Turkey. We are headed to Croatia in June. Good luck!!
For me, Merida was close to the south and east of the USA , I don’t understand it either other than some hyped it up. I plan to have a wonderful guide in Egypt and I think I will spend an extended time in Turkey ! Enjoy Croatia, it looks wonderful and people seem to have really enjoyed it!
Lived in Mersin for awhile and loved it (most of the time - until the coup) - then had to get the hell outta Turkey… and haven’t been back since! Hope things have gotten back to better

Hey Malika, I just read your comment on my channel. Thank you. It seems we're both in the same, or similar boat. Mérida has some good things for sure, but it's way overrated. 4 years is enough. I got my permanent residency which is great but it's time to move on.
Funny how you mentioned the "stans". I like the idea of Thailand a lot but I'm so over humidity so I doubt Thailand will fit the bill although I'm sure I'd love the food and scenery and so forth.
I'm thinking of cooler climates, Czech Republic, I don't know, something different.

Hi Eric, Chiang Mai is cooler in the winter but then there is the burning season. Hey, what about Tblisi Georgia or Almaty Kazakhstan ? I considered either and both are beautiful. My good friend’s son was in Almaty for several years and loved it.

I think the test of knowing when you have found the right city is when you don’t want to leave. If you are living somewhere and thinking about the other places you can and want to visit, then it’s not it. But when you get to a city and feel “damn! I gotta go back home to visit my family…” that’s the place you wanna stay

Hola, Malikah! Wow, leaving Merida ... that doesn't surprise me. I'm a subscriber of your channel since your first interview by Cartess. I've noticed, a lot of TH-camrs are leaving The Yucatan Peninsula for obvious reasons after living or visiting the area, creating their own experience and judging for themselves. I'm also a traveler. My home base is in Colorado.
I visited Cancun (January 2024) and it was nothing like The TH-camrs described. First of all, Cancun area is more expensive than the USA. Second, the temperature was over 95 degrees in January (a winter month). Third, I was haggled everywhere I went and hit with the gringo prices. Restaurants, souvenir shops, etc, etc ... everything I experienced was extremely expensive. The least expensive area I experienced was Isla Mujeres. However, that place was still more expensive than the USA. Therefore, in my experience, Cancun area is not considered paradise as described by The TH-camrs and it is not affordable or "cheap". Please believe it.

Yes, it does take one to find out for themselves, boots on the ground! I plan to visit Colorado while I am back in the US. I bought my favorite brand of snow boots Sorel, back in 2022 and have yet to wear them!
Visiting established tourist cities, you’re guaranteed “ expensive . “ so why be unrealistically surprised .
Visit Oaxaca before you leave…. however the cuisine of the city is VERY different from “ Mexico “.

Some of the countries I visited to name a few included: Peru, Egypt, Dubai, Jamaica, Ethiopia, Canary Islands, Barcelona and 16 cruises to many Caribbean islands. I'm grateful.

I was never interested in Merida, I just enjoyed your videos. 😊 I’ve learned from you (your) videos (and others) that I have no interest in living in another country full-time. I’ll keep my U.S. home base and come/go (travel) from here. I’ve already decluttered my home though, especially my closets! I’m now working on getting rid of (or donating) excessive “home decor” and knick-knacks. I’m not trying to be a minimalist but I no longer want all the “stuff”. Less stuff, more experiences is my motto nowadays. I look forward to continuing to follow your travel journeys.

Loved your video! I watch many travel content creators ( as part of my research before traveling ). You are absolutely right, people leave for many different reasons when it comes to different parts of the world, the heat in Merida can be a huge factor. But, overall everyone’s goal is different when it comes to traveling out of the US. Some of us want to see the world while others just want a place to catch a break enough to pull our heads out from under water. I’ll never judge any for going out there and finding what they want in life. I watched yours and other vids about Merida and considered getting on the train, but it never left the station. Not downing the state, but some like chocolate and some like strawberry. I get it. I was a bopper for many years, and now I live in NYC as of 22 months ago. I needed to sit for a bit. I have been sitting for 2 years this July 2024, minus Puerto Rico for a month and Niagara Falls for a couple of weeks, and now, it is time to go the end of August for 3 months or so. Yes, I, too, have decided to keep the US as my base (free apartment LOL)and, I guess, be a flexpat, a new term. I love your videos and will continue to watch them as you gallivant. I could tell from your videos, from one bopper to another, that you would probably leave soon. I bought a lot of crap in NYC as well, and it makes me feel bogged down. But, it will stay here as I gallivant. Good luck with all of your travels. I will be watching them.

Yay for the ability to have a choice! We don't have to stay stuck anywhere! I did my 2 rounds in Merida and OMG, the food was sooooooo NOT for me! I lost at least 10lbs just by being hungry! The heat/The food had me rethink my plans seriously.
Well there was a bonus! I haven’t lost because I have been baking sweets 😂. I feel for those that don’t have a choice, thank God I have worked to set my life up that way. Sometimes it takes accepting a loss to work toward a win! All the best to you! 🦋
The food here is an absolute "No" for me in general!
I almost never look forward to eating out, because I don't like the food here like that.
I did have some AMAZING food at an Italian restaurant in Merida about 2 weeks ago. But that was the first time in over 2 years that I've been to a restaurant in this area that I absolutely want to return to.
You can also do backpacking travel , by staying some where for a week then from there go to another country and keep doing that and you would have covered a few places , so keep going on the move .... Maybe I will see you in Thailand sometime.

Glad you talked openly about leaving - so many other TH-camrs shame us if we comment that we want to leave - God forbid you say you don’t like the food in Mexico!!! Like you we don’t like the food - we miss so much our usa food options and we will go back in a few months when our lease expires. Mexico turned out not to be for us, but we gave it a fair try (a bit over 2 years by the time we move back). Can’t wait to go back home to the USA, which we appreciate so much more now (minus the politics)!!!

I like empanadas, polcanes, rice and beans, guacamole (even though I almost never eat it), and not much else. If I never ate these foods (the way they make them here) again I wouldn't even notice. 🤣

She appears to be doing what she can but I was concerned when she shared they had just moved and did not have beds or a refrigerator. I of course don’t know the circumstances that led up to what she is experiencing but I heard you say you were selling everything and did not know if you were giving away anything I know she could use whatever you have.

Hi and thanks . I just saw the video and unfortunately I already gifted a bed to someone else that needed one as well. I didn’t have to purchase a refrigerator . Hopefully someone will have one in the various groups here and maybe they would donate or accept a payment plan for her.

I have scorpions in my place. I have removed at least 4 in the past 7 months.
I just take them- in an open, somewhat deep plastic container-a bit away from the house and put them in the bushes.
I live in a jungle of sorts, so it's to be expected. I've had all kinds of different "bugs" come here. Furry spider, etc.

I put a small plastic- like the clear ones Chinese restaurants in America give you soup to go in- over the scorpion. Then sometimes I use a piece of paper to make sure it goes in. The I flip the container back up and go out towards the bushes and let it go. Often this is at night so I also have a flashlight. 🤣
The first one I ever saw in this home- I'd seen one before in Chelem when I lived by the river- was in my bed! Imagine my surprise! Luckily one of my cats who was in my bed was acting weird, and I saw some movement as whatever it was went under the blanket. It was cold here in Hocaba then. I turned on the light and lifted the blanket an what did I see? 🤣 I was expecting a gecko or something- even though I hadn't seen one in this house, as far as I remember.
Which part of china will you visit? Japan is awesome.
I think I want to definitely go to Guangzhou as well as some places that have beautiful mountains and to some off the beaten path local villages.

You should be on TH-cam to find out what is going on in the world. This is not the time to be moving all over the place. We are in a recession going into depression all over the world. They will be making it harder to travel, it started with reports of the condition of the planes. It’s all about timing in life, not about your dreams.

No dear, it is about my dreams. I keep up with all the current world events and the media hypes things beyond reality. I am a seasoned traveler and know better where to avoid. I’m going to live my life as full as I can . The recession and possible depression does not scare nor affect me at this point , I have the means and the mindset to do anything I dream up!
