Pat Morita's portrayal of Mr. Miyagi was so good that an entire generation of kids who grew up on these movies and never knew Pat himself, mourn the loss of Mr. Miyagi like they lost their own grandfather. That's how perfectly Pat Morita played that character. And I fully admit to being one of them.

totally does as he honestly loved Noriyuki "Pat" Morita for his love and gentleness as ralph was a kid. He did alot behind the scenes for him. Sometimes characters can have some reality to them.

I was fortunate enough to listen to Ralph speak at Portland comic con last year. What struck me was how much of a guy next door he seemed. He said he just viewed himself as the kid lucky enough to get the karate kid role. He and Pat are forever intertwined, between themselves but also within the fabric of pop culture and the 80’s. Legends never die.

This scene is so touching because it shows that the relationship between Mr. Miyagi and Daniel went deeper than just teacher and student. Daniel was the son Mr. Miyagi never had and he was the father that Daniel never had. That also stretches to Johnny when we learn more about his background. He never had that relationship that was strong enough to shape his life years later. The creative team behind Cobra Kai deserve high praises for finding new pearls of wisdom to impart while bringing back these beloved characters. Thank you Ralph and William for giving us fans this show. 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤

    A few things:
According to Wikipedia, Mr. Myiagi's first name was Kesuge.
Also, I always thought that he was 63 in 1987, which would have made him born in 1924. In Karate Kid II, which came out in 1987, he said he was 18 when he left Okinawa 45 years earlier, which would have made him 63, hence born in 1924, not 1925.

He changed his name and got a fake passport with different dates. Happened after he assaulted someone and stole a necklace in 1947 and had to flee the country

"The Karate Kid" was my brother's favorite movie. When my brother came home on leave before being stationed in Germany, he had to watch it every day (30 day leave)🙄.

Pat Morita (June 28, 1932 - November 24, 2005) would’ve been too young to participate in WW2. The U.S. formally entered World War II on December 8, 1941 following the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. The U.S. did allow men aged 16 and older to participate in the military during WW2. Which is why Mr. Miyagi was perfectly aged 16 in late 1941. His wife and child die in childbirth in November 1944 when he was aged a few months into his 19th year. Did he really marry this young and father a child? I have always wondered. It doesn’t seem that canon settles this.

Daniel Larusso: Mr. Miyagi was a Medal of Honor War Hero, that's why he was very wise. Remember his teachings and you'll find the answers you are looking for

"Dig, man, I'm survivin' these lonely days
When fate's got my number, no escape
My vibe's lost, man, no chance
    Life's a dead-end street, don't you see?
My tears, man, they're like raindrops
Fallin' hard, but no one's around
Love's a ghost town, deserted and grey
    No direction, just driftin' away
Turnin' away, man, from the pain
But it follows, like a rainy refrain
No solace, just the city's cold stare
    Existence, man, without a trace

First time I saw this clip it blown me away. Thought this show was a reboot and I was wrong it’s a continuation to the Karate Kid movies which makes this show so good. So this show is the real Karate Kid 4. I’m just going to act like Next Karate Kid never existed since it wasn’t in Daniel’s time.

But the writers acknowledge it exists. If you saw Daniel train Johnny a little bit of Miyagi-Do then you would've heard a small reference to The Next Karate Kid.
Was The Next Karate Kid a classic? Nope. But I will contend it was better than Karate Kid 3 (except for introducing Terry Silver). And Pat Morita was always great as Mr. Miyagi no matter which film.
