Almost 200 years before the dutch the Portuguese by discovering the passage for the Indian ocean ( in 1488 Bartolomeu Dias did Baptized that Cape as Cape Of Hope) paved the way for the First Global Empire in History. And it was Portugal that First Global Empire.
On 17 April 1658, Van Riebeeck, Governor of the Cape, wrote in his diary: _"Began holding schools for young slaves. To stimulate slaves to attention while at school, and _*_to induce them to learn Christian prayers,_*_ they were promised each _*_a glass of brandy and two inches of tobacco,_*_ when they finish their task."_ (Horrell, 1970: 3)
As someone who edits YT videos too, I really know the hard work you put into this video. And I know that interaction is important. For this reason I am writing you this comment and I want to encourage you! Keep the quality up and more followers will come! We went through the same period on our channel (not the account I am writing with). Great video! :)
Because we are not like you mis minded and racist for your information africa is not a country africa is one of the most loved and beutifull continent how have people that love there continent and respect each other
What a distorted pro-colonialism narrative. Dispossesion of indigenous land, theft of language and "Afrikander" name. Reminds me of the narrative i was taught at school back in 70's. Ag nee man, waasie waarheid.
You know exactly what it means. It means they hadn't known about it before and now they did. The fact that someone else knew about it before doesn't negate the fact that to them it was previously unknown. "Discovery" is a term relative to the discoverer, unless we're using it in the context of "discovering gravity" for example, in which case, as far as we know, absolutely noone knew about it before Newton.
@@kingkayfabe5358 Except that isn't true, the Portuguese were the first Europeans to discover the Cape and interacted with the indigenous people, 100 years before the VOC arrived there
The framing of this is SOOOOO slanted in the direction of the colonizers. The way you talk about this gives off the impression that the settlers just migrated and went about their lives and the people indigenous to the land were “hostile” just for no reason, or because they possessed a sort of inherent savagery. The fact that you call the indigenous population hostile but talk about the colonizers in such a morally neutral way should set off alarm bells for anyone who has even the slightest grasp on what imperialism is. Not a good video at all. Please people in the comments don’t use this to try to learn or teach anything.
Who else is here to "study"😂

Africa is not a country
Selective and sanatized history equals propaganda and is useless in the world of serious students of world history.
This is european train of thought, unless properly educated, and endowed with a good heart.

Is this AI generated ? To be honest it's way too shallow . You didn't do justice to the topic . Also it's THE Cape colony !
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY, "NEWLY DISCOVERED LAND"?

It means the Europeans recently discovered it. It's not very complicated to understand
