Willem Barentsz’s Discoveries EXPLAINED in 7 Minutes | Best VOC Documentary
In the 16th century, Willem Barentsz, the Dutch navigator, was determined to discover the elusive Northeast Passage. In 1594, he set sail from Amsterdam aboard the ship Mercury, aiming to find a direct route from Europe to the Far East. Navigating icy conditions along Russia's northern coastline, Barentsz and his crew encountered colossal ice formations that obstructed their progress. They also had their first encounter with the polar bear.
Undeterred by the challenges of their first voyage, Barentsz embarked on a second expedition in 1595. Accompanied by additional ships gifted by Prince Maurice of Orange, they sought to conquer the Northeast Passage again. However, they faced treacherous blizzards and another encounter with polar bears, resulting in casualties.
In 1596, Barentsz embarked on his third and final voyage, this time without sponsors. Their aim was to find the Northeast Passage and reach China. During this expedition, they discovered Bear Islands and endured harsh Arctic conditions. Unfortunately, Barentsz lost his life at sea in June 1597.

Almost 200 years before the dutch the Portuguese by discovering the passage for the Indian ocean ( in 1488 Bartolomeu Dias did Baptized that Cape as Cape Of Hope) paved the way for the First Global Empire in History. And it was Portugal that First Global Empire.
Slavery was horrible. Doesn’t matter who was the worst or not. ALL of it was pure evil. In return there are still ALOT of African Americans who haven’t recovered psychologically from it.. same mindsets passed down from generation to generation, our history and culture stripped from us.

1 - There is no serious war record of the Dutch vs Portugal war if the Dutch hide Brazil, Angola and the most important battles. Battle of Guararapes was a military confrontation fought on April 18 and 19, 1648 and then on February 19, 1649, between the Army of the Netherlands and troops of the Portuguese Empire. The battles took place at Monte dos Guararapes, located in the current Jaboatão dos Guararapes, a municipality in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, in the then Captaincy of Pernambuco, current state of Pernambuco. It occurred within the scope of the War of Restoration of Portugal's independence from Spain, leading Portuguese troops to recover overseas territories that had been occupied by the Dutch during Spanish rule, such as the Northeast of Brazil and the coast of Angola and Timor, for example. . The double Portuguese victory, in the Guararapes mountains, is considered the decisive episode of the Pernambuco Insurrection, which put an end to the Dutch invasions in Brazil and the so-called "Dutch Brazil" (New Holland, for the Dutch), in the 17th century. The signing of the Dutch capitulation took place in 1654, in Recife, where the last Batavian ships departed towards Europe. The first confrontation, on April 19, 1648, in which the resistance troops fighting against the Dutch were mainly made up of Portuguese. many already born in Brazil. In addition to white Brazilians, there were blacks and Amerindians alongside the Portuguese soldiers born in the metropolis, all with the common objective of expelling the Dutch invaders. Although this military confrontation was in defense of the Portuguese Empire, of which Brazil was part, the date was symbolically adopted as the official milestone of the emergence of the Brazilian Army. First confrontation The first confrontation between the Dutch army and the defenders of the Portuguese Empire took place on April 18 and 19, 1648 at Morro dos Guararapes, Captaincy of Pernambuco, Colonial Brazil. Presence on the first ribbon of the Brazilian Army Standard. The Dutch planned to reconquer the Port of Nazaré, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, essential for supplying Arraial Velho do Bom Jesus, where weapons and ammunition used by the Portuguese-Brazilian resistance entered. Under the command of Colonel Sigismund de Schkoppe, the Dutch fighters knew the strategic importance of first occupying the town of Muribeca, where there was a large quantity of cassava flour to supply the soldiers. However, generals Fernandes Vieira and Vidal de Negreiros, aware of the invasion plans, prevented the action at Morro dos Guararapes, where the Dutch, coming from Recife, would have to pass to reach Muribeca. This first confrontation ended with a Portuguese-Brazilian victory, despite its number being no more than 2,200 men, compared to 7,400 from the enemy army. The toll of the war was 1,200 Dutch dead, 180 of whom were officers and sergeants. On the Portuguese-Brazilian side, 84 were killed. The most intense combat lasted about five hours. On the battlefield, in addition to the Dutch and Portuguese-Brazilians, the English, French, Poles, black Africans and Tupi and Tapuia Indians fell. Many Dutch soldiers drowned in floods around Morro dos Guararapes. Weakened for combat, the army of the Dutch West India Company could not resist the vigor, preparation and knowledge of the terrain of the Portuguese-Brazilians. In the decisive moments of the confrontation, the Dutch tried to dominate the flank occupied by the blacks, commanded by Henrique Dias, but the troops commanded by Vieira and Vidal came to their aid, massacring the Dutch. The second battle would take place ten months later, in February 1649, in the same location. With the Portuguese victory and the Dutch living Brazil for ever.
The Dutch were defeated in mighty Brazil, Angola, Macau and many other parts that is why Portuguese is one of the 5th most Spoken languages in the world. But the german dutch propaganda insists with rethoric of Stalinegrad will be just a walk in the park. The Portuguese just lost when they were under a spanish king, then bye bye jewish dutch.
People around the world have to know thats Acehnese fight not for Indonesia

What a distorted pro-colonialism narrative. Dispossesion of indigenous land, theft of language and "Afrikander" name. Reminds me of the narrative i was taught at school back in 70's. Ag nee man, waasie waarheid.
Greatest Dutchman ever [opinion]
I lived in Suriname from 1969 to75 and have heard some harrowing stories of the Bakaa, so I knew of Anton de Kom from then. And I have his book and have read it twice.
What a misleading video, Sir if you don't know anything about history at all kindly STFU and stop misleading people. Firstly, you called Africa a country like it isn't the 2nd largest continent on Earth, secondly you called the indigenous people of SA "HOSTILE" like they were not trying to protect what belonged to them, thirdly this video is giving "praising" vibes for the YT settlers. Don't ever do that again, EMBARRASING. 😑 Y'all don't use this video for educational purposes if y'all don't want to fail. You wasted my 5 mins, I could've been doing something progressive.

I am Dutch. As a child in the 90's I had a comic book that told the history of our country. In this historical events were told in comic style, and this is how I read about Sukarno for the first time. I have found him an inspiring person since the first time I read about him. Fantastic.
You forgot to mention that the King of Portugal died without leaving an heir. The King of Spain became the King of Portugal due to succession rights. The Spanish ignore Portuguese interests and used their ships and man power in Spanish colonies. That’s the reason the Dutch and British started attacking Portuguese colonies!
Figures
"america" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wow I kind of understood what happened now😅
They didn't teach you these lies in propaganda public schools?
The framing of this is SOOOOO slanted in the direction of the colonizers. The way you talk about this gives off the impression that the settlers just migrated and went about their lives and the people indigenous to the land were “hostile” just for no reason, or because they possessed a sort of inherent savagery. The fact that you call the indigenous population hostile but talk about the colonizers in such a morally neutral way should set off alarm bells for anyone who has even the slightest grasp on what imperialism is. Not a good video at all. Please people in the comments don’t use this to try to learn or teach anything.
This is rubbish just like western so-called history!

great, we Indonesians have never been taught about how the global market changed at end of 1700's and how Napoleonic war made a significant turnover in history, and so making the greatest company go into bankruptcy
It wasnt because of resources, it was because they were pirates and that got really bad when the suez canal was opened, because of all the extra ships taking the route past Aceh towards Suez. Ships from all nations were taken and the English thought that is was the Netherlands' responsibility to solve the problem, cause they were in control of part of that island. Aceh was always independent and they could've stayed independent if they hadn't taken all the European/American ships.
aceh was a sultanate back then , kiddo
