......Alex and I loaded our pulks and headed up to Northern Minnesota for 3 nights out in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

The comments about how fast the day goes is definitely something I've noticed on winter trips, especially up where I camp in the boreal of northern Saskatchewan. The days are short and camp chores means it goes by quickly.

Really loved hearing "Rabbit In the Log". Perfect for this setting! If you haven't heard it, Chris Thile and Michael Daves have a great take of that tune. That whole record is great, but that is a standout classic.

Huh, I binged all your informational videos in your backyard early spring. I watch bits of your videos like this one when I can’t get out myself, but have been pretty good at making it out! It was a good idea going for just a campout rather than crushing miles on the trail. Looks like a blast. I wish I was there. AND, I got one of those little coffee funnel things for Christmas this year, too! Whoooooo Buddy!

Jan 18/21 No snow at all in Toronto! Snowed once so far this winter of about 4 inches but all melted now!!! Very unusual ever!!! Excellent video!!!!!

You've given me the knowledge and confidence to begin my own winter hammock camping trips, so far 2 under my belt! One in the Smokey Mountains and one on the shore of Lake Monroe in the Hoosier National Forest. I've even gotten my 16 old son to join me and we're enjoying our time together! I wish I were closer to you so as I could beg to join you on one of your adventures! Again ... THANK YOU!

Really nice video, I enjoyed it very much. I have never been snowshoeing or pulled a pull. But I have been on Snowbank, Parent, disappointment and that country in the summer on canoe trips. I spent nights out in my hammock at 18, 21, 25, 29 and so forth degrees. I have backpacked at -17, -10, -3 and so forth degrees. I still like winter camping. I took five teenagers out overnight just two nights ago. We had a successful trip with a low of 29 degrees with 2" of snow. Keep on camping.
Good stuff. I am hoping to take up solo canoe trips . Keep getting it.

Thanks! Nice to see the Firebox in the northern winter woods! I have and love and use the stainless versions in the original and the Nano. Use and love the big one for camping. Used the Nano and a Trangia for backpacking for a while. Thanks to you I now use mostly the Fancy Feast for backpacking. Been thinking of trying the Fancy Feast and the Nano together for stability and versatility. Sometimes a tiny wood fire is a good thing. Wish I didn’t know what you were talking about with the “world weary” comments. Your videos help!

That's a super nice lofted campsite all day all night, no matter the season! I've thought some about getting in axe like yours, Shug. For now, it's on my want list. My want list has one less entry though, as I bought some Empire Canvas and Wool boots this year (your inspiration)! WOW, talk about a game changer!

As my wife often asks “did you see that on a Shug Video? In this case she is correct. I watched the Shug Turkish Coffee Video and got me an Ibrik.

Fun time and fun playing with the Firebox.
I would rather use cross-country skis with a pulk on a lake. Running the straps through two lengths of aluminum or PVC tubing minimizes the chance of the sled running up your backside when you stop from the higher rate of speed reached on skis, no need for a fancy harness. A tarp makes an excellent sail, if the wind cooperates.
The camping is the center of attraction obviously, though. I like that you use both your wood and alcohol stoves according to what you need them to do. I sometimes carry both, even on multiday hikes. Wood stoves can be used to keep warm without using fuel that needs to be carried.

I do have very thin touring skis but want to someday get backcountry skis. But for now I am just fine with snowshoes and I find them easier than skiing...at least for my skills.

Shug as an Assistant Scout Master down here in NC. I enjoy watching your videos and like you I enjoy the peanut butter pop tarts. Unfortunately I've not been able to find any around the area I live in for a while now . I still have Lexington barbecue, but those pop tarts in the morning with a hot cup of coffee, on a backpacking trip seem to start my morning off just right. Hope them pop tarts get back to my area soon. Hope to see another video soon.

A nice winter hike, what can be better? Great idea with the little table, especially for hammock I have that problem myself with the coffee being waaay to far below.
