Shug, you've literally changed my life in so many different ways. You've inspired me to be a better entertainer, a better camper and a better human. I think i was 42 or 43 and was tent camping with the family. I had a rock under my pad, which led to a miserable nights sleep, along with sore hips, and a hard time standing up in the morning. I still hammock camp and no way would I be out any other way. I started taking my daughter at 4 yo in 2009 and now, at 15 we still hang together. Just wanted to say it’s been a joy to watch you and your TH-cam channel grow. Maybe we’ll cross paths one day. If I can not play music for a whole weekend. Cheers my friend. I used to think that dirty palms were just something you HAD to deal with from crawling out of your tent. I bought a hammock in 2005 when my Hilleberg Akto was just two years old. I've probably only used the tent a dozen times since. I winter hammock, too. People doubt me when I tell them that I sleep better in my hammock than in my bed at home (which was more expensive). 🙂 I appreciate your knowledge, concern, humor. You are a genuine person. Thanks for everything.
I think I may have found hammocks because while I was trying to find a nice sleeping bag, I came across one of your videos where you were going over different quilts. I was like “who is this guy?” “He’s a little strange.” “Why can’t I stop watching his videos?” And the rest is history. Thank you Shug!

Congratulations on 100k, for years now, A new shug video always puts a smile on my face. When my friends ask me about how to do something hammock related, I always link them to one of your videos! When I first started hammock camping I did everything wrong. Straight lay, a hammock that was too short. Something about the peacefulness at night, the gentle swinging, and my own stubbornness made me stick with it. Now I sleep better in a hammock than I do In my bed!

Thanks again, Shug. As always, very educational and mildly entertaining. (Just kidding) I have been enjoying your antics for over 9 years. You are why I hammock camp. Miss Hickory, though. Take care during the pandemic.
There’s an artistry in your words Shug..older yes Shug..just had my coffee..a comfortable sitting position outside too. Solitude yeah buddy. ..hammocks yes those are new so , something to look forward to..
Congratulations, Shug! Long time subscriber here. You make me laugh. You've also helped me to care less about what people think and to embrace the differences in people. Love your style and I appreciate the videos.
You sir are a superstar! Over here in the UK it tickles me to watch your videos. I'm not a pro hanger, I just keep dipping in and out from my tent life but most of what I know about hammocks has come from being entertained by you. Keep doing what you do and being yourself. There's one veteran here that appreciates it. 🤣🤣👍👍🤪🤪
Cool having your own Ice to skate on..... nice 1 I am just getting into the hammocks so thanks for all the inspiration All secure in sector Scotland 🤙🏴
Just wanted thank you for helping me threw the hammock learning curve. I love my hammock to. Probably more than you, the only thing I love more is my cross country bicycle. This may will celebrate 5 years on the road an my hammocking, makes feel just blissful at the end of the day. Thanks Shug, for being you!!!
11:40 Me: "My tarp is for your comfort, not mine." -Cuz I don't care. I haven't been self conscious or embarrassed in 40+ years. Much to the chagrin of my lovely bride.
Just finished my second weekend in a row of -13 hanging. Double hammock gear guilts get me thru that and more. Feel so much more better in a hammock. Northern Vermont and hammocks . A match made in heaven. Take care, Al
I know what you mean. I get up from a hammock in the morning and have no aches or stiffness, anything else including beds, I do the Frankenstein walk when I get up.
Well, another fun and enlightening hammocking video from the Shugster. You've inspired me; I think I'll set-up my Warbonnet hammock in my backyard just for the experience. Although, I only have 20 deg topquilt and bottom quilt and its about 11 deg here in central Pennsylvania. Maybe I better wait for slightly warmer weather. The Polar Vortex doesn't mess around with old folks. Happy Valentine's Day. Ciao
The worst part of hammock camping is getting out of it in the morning. Also; the Hammock Gear Wanderlust package is an economical way to get into hammock camping. Hammock, suspension, and tarp all ready to hang for $230.
Hanging out in my hammock under the deck on coolish Blue Mountains summer afternoon - I agree, any excuse will do! Thanks for inspiring me to get into hammocks Shug!
Not sure where I saw these, but they both made me crack up. -"Hammockers are the vegans of backpacking" -"How can you tell someone is a hammock camper? You don't, they'll tell you" I do feel bad when I see people laying on the ground. It looks terrible.
After watching for a few years and after a lifetime of tents I bought a hammock a week ago and have been practicing using it indoors since. Setting up the garden fixings to use it outdoors when the underquilt arrives. Something miraculous happened, all my aches and pains disappeared and I felt toned in the mornings. Talked to my wife about it and she was a bit skeptical. Then I watched this, felt happy and justified and learned a lot. Starting to look forward to settling down in the hammock each evening. May never use the bed again! Thanks so much Shug. You and yours stay well, stay safe.
This is great. You just saved me from having to try to explain to my nephews I am taking to the BWCA later this fall for their first trip about whether or not they should choose to hammock or tent :). I hammock but that’s my preference. Seriously thanks for taking the time to out this together 😊
Shug your Mafiosa name could be Zamboni. I appreciate you and this video. I been havin some neck/back pain so last night i hit the local hardware store, picked up two 3/8" eye hooks zonked em in two walls of my living room and set up my XL warbonnet traveler. Back pain subsiding. Going for night two tonight and will do so till it feels better. Also for anyone else thats reading i was at first shy about changing in the woods without a tent to hide in when first using a hammock. BUT i always have my tarp set up which is basically a big fence you cant see past so theres privacy when you need it. Sleep does the body good.
at 38 something when i go to sleep in the hammock i feel like a 62 years old, but when i wake up im back to 38 ish, haha. as a fellow camper who likes the same kind of things i guess, i thought this was a great video. Lots of insights enunciated in a fun, yet genuine and relatable way. Such a hammock preacher! Oh and congrats on 100k
Thanks for reigniting my camping spirit, Shug. Was a scoutmaster for twenty years and haven’t done a backpacking trip in as many years. At 67 (also a Minnesotan!), I now have a goal of doing an AT thru-hike in 2023 with a hammock/tarp plan. Time for a few shakedowns before then to practice as you said is so important to this approach. My wife and kids and grandkids think I’m a bit crazy when I go outside on these cold winter nights, but what the hey!! Love the rejuvenating sleep I get in my hammock. Watch your videos over and over to learn from your wisdom. Keep ‘em coming!
@@shugemery Your -40 (-39 actual?) hang video was the first one I watched. Subscribed and have watched ever since. And...spent a fair amount of money on hammocks and gear 'cause of you. Opened a whole new world of relaxing and sleeping out there, thank you.

At 77, agree pretty much with all you said. Hammock is far easier than ground dwelling for us seniors. All of my camping for at least 10 years has been solo. Not many oldsters left to go with, which is fine for this loner. I really want to thank you for getting me into hammocking 5 or 6 years ago because tenting was becoming less enjoyable with age. Hammocking truly rejuvenated my backpacking. Got to your daughters site too late, but will monitor it.

Thanks again, Shug. As always, very educational and mildly entertaining. (Just kidding) I have been enjoying your antics for over 9 years. You are why I hammock camp. Miss Hickory, though. Take care during the pandemic.
Hey TZ! Still using those sock garters you gave me for the muks. Hope to see you again sometime.
When you hit 100k subs, TH-cam starts providing sound effects.
Congrats, Shug! If anyone deserves it, it's you. Woo buddy!
I hope they provide me a cake!
There’s an artistry in your words Shug..older yes Shug..just had my coffee..a comfortable sitting position outside too. Solitude yeah buddy. ..hammocks yes those are new so , something to look forward to..
Caffeine, age and solitude. My medicine.
Congrats on 100k. Great video.
Only took 14 years...I plodded along.
I wonder how many people are hammockers now because of you. I know i am one. One of your lovingly strange subscribers :)
Congratulations, Shug! Long time subscriber here. You make me laugh. You've also helped me to care less about what people think and to embrace the differences in people. Love your style and I appreciate the videos.
Righto. I wonder why folks in the news alway care what "Haters" think. Screw the haters. They bring nothing to the game.
🤣🤣👍👍🤪🤪
Ahhh....a nice grilled Sainbury's sausage by the hammock. Righto and pip pip and thankee for the words.
Cool having your own Ice to skate on..... nice 1
I am just getting into the hammocks so thanks for all the inspiration
All secure in sector Scotland 🤙🏴
It really is. Going down for a skate in a bit. Enjoy the comfort quest.
Congratulations on 100k Shug. I've been watching you for 7 years thanks for all the info and laughs. Hammocks forever.
Thankee good Sir.
@@shugemery my wife loves Karl.
Thanks so much for the insights, humor and passion over the years, Shug! Love the pros/cons discussion. You’ve got such a creative family! 👍🏻
Good words mean a lot. Thankee.
Nothing like bliss. Get all you can!
11:40 Me: "My tarp is for your comfort, not mine." -Cuz I don't care. I haven't been self conscious or embarrassed in 40+ years. Much to the chagrin of my lovely bride.
Haaaa......love it.
Just finished my second weekend in a row of -13 hanging. Double hammock gear guilts get me thru that and more. Feel so much more better in a hammock. Northern Vermont and hammocks . A match made in heaven. Take care, Al
I like the cold in a hammock. Many think it is not doable. But it is very doable and comfy....right?
@@shugemery right. Just test close to home. No worries
I know what you mean. I get up from a hammock in the morning and have no aches or stiffness, anything else including beds, I do the Frankenstein walk when I get up.
Restoration Nation~~~
Well, another fun and enlightening hammocking video from the Shugster. You've inspired me; I think I'll set-up my Warbonnet hammock in my backyard just for the experience. Although, I only have 20 deg topquilt and bottom quilt and its about 11 deg here in central Pennsylvania. Maybe I better wait for slightly warmer weather. The Polar Vortex doesn't mess around with old folks. Happy Valentine's Day. Ciao
Worth a shot. fun to hear your own backyard sound at around 3am.
I ❤️ my hammock. I threw out my bed. Hammock is a permanent fixture in my house 🏡.
Full Time comfort.
I thought it was only me😁
@@hhinds8716 You are not alone!
L’amour du hamac vient d’une grosse partie de toi mon frère! Merci ❤️the love for the hammock comes a lot from you m’y brother ❤️
I hope they love me back...or at least like me....haaaaa
The worst part of hammock camping is getting out of it in the morning.
Also; the Hammock Gear Wanderlust package is an economical way to get into hammock camping. Hammock, suspension, and tarp all ready to hang for $230.
True and so true.
Been looking at that myself to give it a go looked like the best option for the starter
Hanging out in my hammock under the deck on coolish Blue Mountains summer afternoon - I agree, any excuse will do! Thanks for inspiring me to get into hammocks Shug!
Now that sounds real good~~~
We're not strange....
~everyone else is strange!
: )
I concur. Ordinary is ubiquitous.
If you don't like a purty boil, well you must be a weirdo!
Not sure where I saw these, but they both made me crack up.
-"Hammockers are the vegans of backpacking"
-"How can you tell someone is a hammock camper? You don't, they'll tell you"
I do feel bad when I see people laying on the ground. It looks terrible.
We're all different, except for me
After watching for a few years and after a lifetime of tents I bought a hammock a week ago and have been practicing using it indoors since.
I too find them restorative to my soon to be 63 year old worn-out body....
This is great. You just saved me from having to try to explain to my nephews I am taking to the BWCA later this fall for their first trip about whether or not they should choose to hammock or tent :). I hammock but that’s my preference. Seriously thanks for taking the time to out this together 😊
Nice of you to bring them along. What a fantastic place to be. And be.
Shug, yours is my favorite camping channel! And most of your videos make me all the more grateful for living in Arizona!
Thankee and thanks. AZ is kinda magical.
I used to have trouble with the hammock suspension and getting the underquilt to hang right, I have experience in my side now so it's an x-con.....
What was once a nemesis is now an ally.
Great Video Shug!
I thankee.
I love you Shug. Just not as much as I love my hammock. I'm sure you'll understand :)
I'm fine with being liked rather than loved....

My biggest fear about hammock camping is waking up with a raccoon on my belly. Awesome vid as usual!
I had a mouse on my face once. It was horrible for the mouse as the mouse got launched!!!!
I had a wren make itself cozy with me in my hammock. It was awesome.
I had a stray cat hop up and sleep on my belly once. I had seen it around in the daytime, so I wasn't totally shocked, but surprised 🙀

at 38 something when i go to sleep in the hammock i feel like a 62 years old, but when i wake up im back to 38 ish, haha. as a fellow camper who likes the same kind of things i guess, i thought this was a great video. Lots of insights enunciated in a fun, yet genuine and relatable way. Such a hammock preacher! Oh and congrats on 100k
Speaking the hammock word. Truth. Comfort and long slumber.
Hey Shooss, we need more mandolin. Just don't post it too early....
Just a pinch here and there. Mando is a strong spice.
That is right good! What a time that will be.

Stay away from the Gunflint trail, it's going to be 35 below zero F. OUCH! 😨 🌲🌲🌲
I'd like to go but have some priorities. Done -40ºF so -35ºF is a park-hop....haaaa
@@shugemery Your -40 (-39 actual?) hang video was the first one I watched. Subscribed and have watched ever since. And...spent a fair amount of money on hammocks and gear 'cause of you. Opened a whole new world of relaxing and sleeping out there, thank you.
I find your videos so calming and your humor is delightful. Shug keep on keeping on.
Your comment kinda made my day. I rarely get called soothing.
Ariel may u always be able to pay your rent !
And so her Dad and Mom wish as well...otherwise>>>>>>>>>
Thanks Shug, for the positivity, for the humour, for just the shugness that is you buddy 👏👏
You mighty welcome. I got nothing else to bring to the table but shugness~~~~
Love your videos! I bought my first hammock with some of my high school graduation money - 12 years later I still have the same one. It's actually hanging behind me here in my office - when I take my lunch break I crawl inside and take a nap 😴💤 Nothing cozier.
A good nap makes you smarter and better looking.
Your great shug... wow buddy, carry on being yourself your very entertaining and knowledgeable about lots of stuff. It's great to have time and watch your videos Thank You.
14 years doing this YT thing. Never thought I would. Thankee.
As a fellow 62 year old, YOU NAILED IT! 😄👍
I agree with everything you said.
I got my first hammock (a Hennessey) in 93 and have been in love ever since.

So much goodness in that hammock setup!! 👍🏼
So much truth in the words of wisdom.
Appreciate you Shug!!
I was almost too warm most the night in that set-up. That is a Win.
Congrats on 100k Shug! Surprised you're not up north in MN with the cold we are stuck in right now!
I'm hoping to still try. Wife had a death of a sister so still dealing....
@@shugemery So sorry for your guys loss - sending good thoughts your guys way.
Shug, congrats on the 100k subs! I want to thank you for being an inspiration for an old guy like me to get back out there. Also for the entertainment! I’ve been watching you for years now and I always looked forward to seeing what you’re up to next.
Truly, I do like to inspire more mature folks to get back out there and lollygag on.
Congrats on 100,000 subs. Good to see some skating happening in Sector 7!
The skating has been thereputic. Thankee.
I learned all I know about hammocks from your videos! And I love them and your videos. Thank you!!
I'm so glad! and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
I conur and relate. Righto.
Just so you know...she will take orders and make it then mail it. Thankee.
Shug, congratulations for hitting 100K subs from one of your strange Australian subscribers. Keep doing what you do and being who you are.
Righto and fair dinkum~~~
This ol' gub hopes to get back that way someday.
