  • Finishing 2022 off out on the singletrack at the Mariposa Fat Bike Trails. The crew is so fun to ride with. Thanks for making an excellent year. Here’s to many more. If you didn’t get the chance to ride with us this year, let’s change that for 2023. See you all on the trails.
    Why fat bikes?
    With a fat bike you are not limited on the tire width. You can run up to 5 inch wide tires. And any size wheel below that if you wanted ~ 27.5+, 29+, 26, etc.
    Fat bikes are like monster trucks, the Jeep’s of the bike world. They can go anywhere and are unlimited compared to our skinny tire bikes. You can ride through all four seasons and all surface types on the same bike. With minimal trail impact. Snow, sand dunes, arroyos, cobblestone river beds, slick rock, hard pack, you name it.
    And they help build/roll in the trail. So you’re actually doing trail maintenance as you ride. Smoothing out all those skinny tire mud ruts is an extra bonus for your local singletrack.
    Our goal is to inspire more people getting outside and encouraging adding a fat bike to the quiver. Go explore more places and have less of an impact while riding in sandy softer soils. Broaden your horizons with a nice fat bike. Explore the many miles of sandy arroyos and dunes in the southwest without pizza cutting through the desert crust (“pizza cutting” increases erosion).
    Here are some fat bikes in the wild deserts of New Mexico. Mariposa Fat Bike Trail system. Keep singletrack single and tread lightly. The desert takes a very long time to heal and vegetation doesn’t recover like it does in greener areas.

      I noticed that too. It should be at 4K now. TH-cam has a delay so if you watched it right when it published it was still uploading/encoding. Go to your setting and select the highest quality. See if it’s better now.

      New Mexico Outside should do a fan meet up ride in New Mexico. That would be cool because so many viewers want to ride there but don't want to do it alone due to the tough terrain and weather.

      @@Dempsey222 Mark on your calendar on the first Saturday of every December. Every year we do our global Fat Bike Day ride. Everyone is welcome to come ride with us. See you all then! We also try and do Saturday group rides all year long. Informal meet up at the Mariposa Fat Bike Trails in Rio Rancho NM. #Trailforks Meet In the parking area of the community center there. Inside is The Bean Cafe. We are usually getting coffee and breakfast before the ride.

    What drone do you use? My Mavic 2 doesn’t seem to track as well. And my controller is not really handlebar compatible.

    • @NewMexicoOutside
      @NewMexicoOutside  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the drone work here it is the Skydio2. It has the best tracking that I am aware of. Others can chime in here on this. The Skydio2 has come out with a newer version with pop up antennas. This is the older version. It does really well here in the desert. Put it up in the air and you can forget it. Sometimes I wish there were voice commands to get it higher or closer of further out or at a different angle. That would be an awesome upgrade if that feature could be done. I try and do that on my iPhone screen and it gets sketchy when riding narrow trails.

    • @aerialsoul999
      @aerialsoul999 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks I’ll check it out. I have two Mavic 2’s, and a phantom 4 which I am trying to sell. Maybe I could look into the Skydio if it sells. Great shot though, I do enjoy your videos. Wish I had the room for a fattie but we are full timers in a fifth wheel and I already have 5 bikes. Lol

    Epic video ! How many are riding with carbon wheels and what about tire width….cheers

    • @NewMexicoOutside
      @NewMexicoOutside  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most have carbon wheels (85mm) and 4.6 to 4.8 X 26 inch wide tires is the norm.

    • @NewMexicoOutside
      @NewMexicoOutside  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The wider tires help keep from damaging the soft Singletrack in the area.
