Fat Bike DREAM BUILD // Trek Farley

  • While I've been recovering from surgery it was the perfect time to spend some time at the shop to build up my new fatbike. Special thanks to ‪@livefreeandshred9818‬ for building while I filmed with my one good arm. I've been fatbiking in the northeast for years and wanted my new fatbike to have a more modern GEO with a stout fork for doing the type of fatbike riding we are used to doing from doing big drops at Highland to riding the packed trails of the White Mountains. But also that was economical. Could I have just bought a Farley 7? Yes, but it wouldn't have had all the parts I wanted and would end up changing things anyway, and who doesn't love a custom build? Enjoy the video and we'll see you on the trails!

    I just bought a Trek Farley 5 yesterday, not having ridding a bike since the 1970's The technological change is as astounding as the price. This bike is so much more capable than the single speed steel departments store bike I grew up with, and I'm glad to be able to ride at my age as much as I did when I was young because of this new bike's capabilities, and do more off road riding as well.

    Sweet build! I’m curious why you went with the Trek Farley frame? I’m looking at this and Pivot LES Fat for my next fatbike.

    • @Projectnortheast
      @Projectnortheast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The geo of the farley is right where I wanted to be and the price was right. The pivot is a sick bike but it's ridiculously expensive. I took a complete farley 5 build and basically rebuilt it to what I wanted it to be. After riding a carbon fatbike for 5 years I just really didn't see the point of all the extra money when the drive train, brakes, and wheels/tires matter the most on a fatbike

    was gonna go with sort stem no my Farley 5 but decided to try stock length and its not bad. I just wonder how much more playful would it make it.

    • @Projectnortheast
      @Projectnortheast  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Short stem wide bars for me... I ride alot of steep trails so the longer stem is too twitchy

    Are you using 3 or 6 pawls in this XD rapid drive body?

    • @Projectnortheast
      @Projectnortheast  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is the 6 which makes it the 108 rapid drive

    • @Svenne_Kloppe
      @Svenne_Kloppe 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Although there's a 108 hub drive and the body is designed for 6 pawls, some say you only need to place 3 of them into the body. I've just purchased the 2024 Farley 5, and I'm going to swap the drivetrain to an X01. And sure, I'll place all 6 pawls.

    • @Projectnortheast
      @Projectnortheast  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Svenne_Kloppe yeah it's 54t with the 3 Pawls which isn't bad engagement. Alot of the rapid drive hubs were just coming standard with the 108 during covid. Not sure if that's changed

      I have seen size M today in the store!
      And I did not realize that rear tyre is 27.5x3.8" while front is 27.5"x4.5"!!!
      Even the shop assistant looked confused!
      🤣

    • @Projectnortheast
      @Projectnortheast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@milo2324 yep the smaller sizes get the smaller rear tire due to clearance... I think a 4.5 may work if you keep the chainstay adjustment all the way out but not positive
