I am an American basketeer, and I adore the UK. My mom was in the Navy for 12 years, and she had nothing but love for the English people and your Royal family. I thought HMTQ was a lovely woman. I find Meghan a complete embarrassment to the US. As a logical and usually rational thinking person, I was pissed about all her allegations and mud throwing. I kept asking "Wheres her proof??" when everyone was calling the Royal family racist after the Oprah interview. Years later, all of her allegations and statements have either been proven FALSE or fabricated. Shes disgusting.

I liked Beyonce once, until I saw a televised performance of her when she was pregnant, dressed like an Empress, her huge number of backup dancers bowing down to her as part of the choreo. Blech. From that moment on, I thought of her with distaste and, every time I saw a sign or t-shirt alluding to being a "Queen," or "Goddess" I just roll my eyes and wonder how women making legitimate advances in the world has devolved into this rubbish.

As the mother of a pc in the Met, I strongly believe that all police officers should remain neutral as their purpose is to protect everyone, with no 'issue of day' being allowed to affect how they carry out their duties. It would make the force a laughing stock if they were given free reign to cover their uniforms in various badges, just to please minorities with the loudest voices.

I agree with River. Supporting causes WHILE on duty is dangerous for either side. An officer cannot turn a blind eye to a crime being committed because it doesn't fall into his/her belief system.
I'm a retired RN. We were not allowed to support any causes while working. I worked in Oncology, so I wore the different colored ribbons related to cancers.
My late husband was a provincial police officer, I respect his force who enforced uninform codes, no pins, stickers etc. It promoted unity within the officers working, and makes them neutral to the public they serve and protect. Sadly the city forces allow and promote rainbows on uniforms, and participation in social cause parades in uniform. That is wrong. Do your participation as a private citizen on your day off.
People in public service always need to remain neutral when serving the public. Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion in private, not while performing public duty. Laws that may or may not be culturally or politically popular at the time still have to be enforced. Any law that is unjust must be addressed through the legislative process. Otherwise, there would be anarchy.

It is a balancing act. In US we have freedom of speech but police have to enforce limitations like harassment, hate speech, inciting a riot etc. Typically police will show up large gatherings, some of which may need permits, but it is for safety and crowd control, detours etc. Also private security may. also be required. It is not all cops and robbers. I will add that not much angers me as much as police bullying and escalation inc death. Deescalating should be the goal of the officer's life is not in immediate danger.

When, you don a uniform, it is exactly that. A uniform, to be worn, identical to every other person wearing that same uniform.
The same, as the military are not allowed to adorn, their uniforms with wristbands, pins etc. unless that has changed since I left the Navy.
What, the police choose to do, in their own, time, for the police is their business.
All, make an oath, all understand the undertaking of the sworn oath.
If they are not able to uphold that oath, then they should leave their job.

Hello River, I’m a retired nurse. When on the job we could never show any type of political or any other outward show of any opinion! It was considered unprofessional!! We had to always at all times be neutral! We were are nurse first and foremost!

Agree. People in public service are to serve the public, not to cater to one group over another. They are certainly welcome to have their own points of view on subjects, but to serve equally and without favor, they must be able to set their views to the side.
Perhaps in the beginning the ‘woke’ were asking for tolerance and acceptance of differing ideas and people and customs and were a voice for freedom of thought. Unfortunately, it all too soon devolved into not asking, but demanding that everyone must hold the same beliefs. It even invaded what were once bastions of higher learning, which were meant to expose students to new and different ideas and opinions and help them develop their critical thinking skills. Then, they became more like nursery schools where the children/students must be provided with safe spaces and must never have to hear anything that did not comport with their narrow view of things.
Then, ‘woke’ expanded their demanding and formed what is, in effect, their enforcement arm, which is called ‘cancel culture.’
‘Woke’ long ago lost its right to be called free thinkers and advocates of open mindedness. Now, they are ones pushing for everyone to believe the propaganda of their causes or else.

Well said on the role of a police constable. I really think the constables in some part need reminding of their position as to being non political as do the general public. I think if we had a better education on our constitution it would help clarify matters and might enable citizens to see the importance of the separation of powers within that constitution. My impression is that the police have lost respect where they engage in partisan activities.

I was horrified to see police constables “taking the knee” at the BLM protests and as for the waste of money painting police cars in rainbow colours - this must have been authorised by higher management, have they totally lost sight of the oath that they have sworn? It was disappointing. No private loo. Just a boring dark room with a few rows of seats in front. Also no food, or drinks because I suppose you have to order them in advance and they weren’t doing that for just me!

My husband is an Officer in His Majesty’s Canadian Armed Forces and ONLY military insignia and medals are allowed on uniforms. They also swear allegiance to the Monarch and their heirs. The military has allegiance to the Monarch not political parties or causes.

I think many living in the UK do not understand how important it is to have a politically neutral and impartial police force. For those of us from Southern Africa know all too well the threat of police being a tool of the political elite and the ruling party. When the police are turned on the civilian population, democracy and personal freedoms are threatened or even destroyed. HM the Queen Mother had the BSAP, the police in then Rhodesia and now Zimbabwe. When Rhodesian military and police were shunned for Remembrance Day, she always walked to the cemetery for Rhodesians who gave their lives in WW1 and WW2, and paid her respects. That is one example of why Royalty is important.
Many don't but, believe me, many do.

You are absolutely correct River. I am extremely familiar with the practice and content of the criminal justice system. In Canada, the police also pay allegiance to the King, as our head of state. They should remain neutral with respect to political issues because their duty is to uphold the rule of law. The idea that the police should be associated with "causes" is absurd. The woman who wrote in does not understand the separation of public offices that are non-political. Leave the causes to the politicians and activists.

Dear River, i have to say, as a liberal, that officers of the law should not be allowed 'individuality' because they wear their badge of office on behalf of the authority given to them by the people. These officers are by design, not individuals but an arm of the state. The only symbols an officer should wear is that of their position, and they can support of whatever they wish when they are not on the job. It is the same when election officials are not allowed to wear insignia approving one side or the other during elections. Thank you.

I think we venture into dangerous territory when we encourage officers to defend “causes”. They have power, they have guns and who knows what kind of “causes” they support.

Well I agree with Rivers opinions on wokeness in police officers, they pay comes from all people who have different opinions and viewpoints. They are supposed to be unbiased in protection, and in enforcement of the law. They should only wear what comes with the uniform. Wearing opinions/ viewpoints pins, badges, arm bands, should be off duty only. Wearing one on your duty uniform shows biases.
Sorry about misspelled words, I started typing my comment when River had just started speaking. The subject of people in positions held that are supposed to unbiased, wearing opinions while on duty, or in the workplace just grates on my last nerves. There’s a time and place for everything.

This summer I was buying a property & had to go to various banks to withdraw money, then somewhere else purchase bank drafts & yet another place to turn over those as per realtor instructions. I was furious at having to look at all of the ugly flags etc that decorated the spaces representing a tiny group of society, which I may or may not support. But the propaganda of such actions in a business which ALL of society trusts their life to thru their financial savings/loans etc is not appropriate. I grew up in a communist country, know the way manipulations seeps in like slime from a leaky toilet or septic.
