@@VidarrKerr He became very sick, partially due to the extreme stress and exhaustion his profession and the media hounding/demonization had caused him.

@duncansunrise I’ve only heard the Hurwitz one so far on his podcast. It was about a month ago so I’m a little fuzzy on it but I recall the commercial examples to be poor but otherwise I thought it was a good discussion. What did you find objectionable about it?

But since i got into high school, my grades have been stooping and so has my social life. There was no words of encouragement. Listening to u helped me find a meaning in life. Ur a life saver Dr Peterson.
I am a Buddhist Priest and amoung my contemporaries we discuss how Mr. Peterson is very similar in demeanour to a good Priest in his self awareness and common sense. Thank you for your efforts on behalf of all sentient beings. Wonderful to hear actual discussion and discourse.

Facinating meet. I am a 47 yr old mother in Israel and I take huge pleasure and insights in following JBPS podcasts as well as his daughter. I listen during house choures and on long car rides and it has been extreamly beneficial in my life. Ive streangthened and better handeled crisis in my familys life and so has my son. I have a construction company and I listen to his lectures all the time. I have to where my headphones because most construction workers in America are not interested in expanding their mind.
Something both the radical left and right fail at is social media. They think that not watching the news on TV sorts them. Facebook probably has more fake or poor quality journalism and bullshit than TV news.
@@alexanderbell3102 I guess until you've learned how to deal with these things, it can all be damaging. Took me a long time to know how to deal with it, and still it's not perfect. Something that is not pleasant or disturbing will always drip in, it's unavoidable in an open society. But people are mostly able to handle it, as long as it's dripping, not pouring.
If it wasn't for our mainstream media, I wouldn't even know about the deadly v that is currently killing so many people. There's no evidence out on the street, just the constant reminders from our trustworthy media.

I am ashamed to say I hadn't heard of him before, but I was very impressed. Looking forward to reading his books. I can't help wondering why the powers that be don't listen to people like this.

I’ve just finished a book called Factfulness by Hans Roslin and was pleased to see him referred to right at the end of this fascinating discussion. Faith in humanity is clearly warranted, we are doing so much better on virtually any scale that you care to mention. This clarion call for gratitude is timely and welcome. It was good to hear some genuinely positive reportage on Africa. I have three new books to add to my reading list.

There are lots of successful civilizations that sprung up in harmony with nature, with each individual having a vast , multi generational knowledge of the flora and fauna near them, as well as the ways of living healthy and avoiding illness and predation. Not every picture of the past needs to be beset with bronchitis and famine, many primitive cultures lived in abundance, health and had lots of leisure time. 2) You’re guest describes a future where farms are all centralized, save a few amateurs here and there, while the rest of the world is put in conservation to avoid,” Being trampled on.” This is a perspective endemic to academics who have spent too much time in their office and not enough time in careful observation of nature. Humans, with the proper knowledge, do not trample or destroy their environment, but interact with it. We are a part of nature and, can increase the biodiversity through regenerative agricultural practices. Decentralization of agriculture and the education of how to do so is key to invigorating the now dead and abandoned American countryside. Many environments have been so damaged by abuse that simply leaving them in conservation will result in a thicket. Humans are capable of stewarding the land to a point where it would be more productive then if simply made a place for tourism. Nature is not meant to simply be visited on vacation from the city, it is our birth place, our womb and our common heritage.
Well said. I don’t like this notion we must all be put into cities with highly specialized jobs, no space to call our own, no roots to grow. There’s a reason cities have the lowest birth rates, the lowest religiousness, and problems it is not mans nature.
This is why they want people packed into cities. Hunters, fisherman, (conservationists) only take what they need to survive and they respect the land and the harvest. The powers at be dont want people to be self sufficient because then they aren't consumers, they are conservatives and if you're not consuming you're not spending money and are therefore dangerous to their business model. You are 100% correct my friend, the majority of people have lost touch with the land and they want everything instantaneously and thats unnatural.

41:30 I have worked in Conservation as a paid volunteer and have visited Madagascar, Kashmir and Borneo (Indonesia) all have high levels of poverty, but generally I found people were much happier! It seems that once you have too much is can be just as destructive as being poor! There it is I need something, here it is I need more!

With respect, I give a lot of props to the medical professionals who properly treated him. For sure, he and his family were incredibly resilient throughout the last couple years, although I think much credit goes to his doctors.

I've been a big advocate of Nuclear for years. Enlightening to see go ol' JP is of the same mindset. If you know the technology and use your logic it's the only makes sense.
I lived near one of the largest Nuclear Plants (in the world?) near Pickering, Ontario, Canada for a wee spell. Swam in the clear waters of Lake Ontario right beside it. The water was warmer there from the cooling run-off. It was clean, the landscape surrounding was healthy and vibrant, the wildlife thriving. Nuclear is the way to go, but people have been so brainwashed to fear it because it's not in the best interest of a few wealthy Fat Cats, who care nothing for humanity or the environment.

Listening to the story of an example home of the past near the middle, and thinking on how things have gotten better, I was reminded of a recent conversation with my in-laws. Both grew up poor in the 50s. Mom-in-law had two dresses made out of sackcloth, Dad-in-law often hunted squirrels to help with dinner. I told them about how, on the other side of the US, my mom grew up on a farm with seven siblings, had an outhouse until the 60s, a metal tub they dragged in once a week for baths. Grandpa and most of my ancestors in this region grew up in log cabins made of the logs they processed as a business (some still do today). My great grandparents would be amazed at what my family has had at it's poorest. I don't remember Mom ever buying herself something nice, but we had electricity, air conditioning and heat, indoor water and bathrooms, were able to avoid deadly childhood disease, have usually had enough food even if not always the best. I have no resentment toward those with more, only gratitude that I've lived a better life than probably all of my ancestors.
what is valuable is not being "invited to play as many number of games". it is to be invited to play as many MOST VALUABLE games. figuring out what is truly valuable and how to foster such collaboration is what make life worth living and is a lifelong process. Not all endaevor are equally good or bad and valuable

Wow, hear his voice, look at the body language, the spark in his eyes, the color in his skin and how sharp he replies...!!! Concerning the decline of absolute poverty (which is good), it needs to be said that it goes at the cost of the middle class and the group of poor people on total is also growing, while the amount of people with middle incomes are declining(which is bad).
I love Matt Ridley’s books. They created a huge interest in me about biology and zoology (Genome, The Red Queen, The Origins of Virtue, Nature via Nurture,...). Watching him being interviewed by Jordan was such an unexpected and delightful surprise! Now looking forward for a podcast with Yuval Noah Harari.
As a deeply pessimistic person, I want to scream "but, but but..." so thank you both for being persuasive. It doesn't completely dissuade me but, it helps.
The only fly in the ointment is that they seemed to gloss over the problem of China, the World Economic Forum, the corruption of the UN and other international organizations, and the harm that determined, evil people can cause.

Something that is not pleasant or disturbing will always drip in, it's unavoidable in an open society. But people are mostly able to handle it, as long as it's dripping, not pouring.
If it wasn't for our mainstream media, I wouldn't even know about the deadly v that is currently killing so many people. There's no evidence out on the street, just the constant reminders from our trustworthy media.

I’ve just finished a book called Factfulness by Hans Roslin and was pleased to see him referred to right at the end of this fascinating discussion. Faith in humanity is clearly warranted, we are doing so much better on virtually any scale that you care to mention. This clarion call for gratitude is timely and welcome. It was good to hear some genuinely positive reportage on Africa. I have three new books to add to my reading list.

A counter perspective from a small farmer to an otherwise engaging talk:
1) The reference to the past being so encumbered with struggles against disease and hunger, is certainly well warranted, but realize that humanity has had thousands of years to adapt to their native environments. There are lots of successful civilizations that sprung up in harmony with nature, with each individual having a vast , multi generational knowledge of the flora and fauna near them, as well as the ways of living healthy and avoiding illness and predation. Not every picture of the past needs to be beset with bronchitis and famine, many primitive cultures lived in abundance, health and had lots of leisure time.

This is a perspective endemic to academics who have spent too much time in their office and not enough time in careful observation of nature.
Humans, with the proper knowledge, do not trample or destroy their environment, but interact with it. We are a part of nature and, can increase the biodiversity through regenerative agricultural practices. Decentralization of agriculture and the education of how to do so is key to invigorating the now dead and abandoned American countryside. Many environments have been so damaged by abuse that simply leaving them in conservation will result in a thicket. Humans are capable of stewarding the land to a point where it would be more productive then if simply made a place for tourism.
Nature is not meant to simply be visited on vacation from the city, it is our birth place, our womb and our common heritage.
Well said. I don’t like this notion we must all be put into cities with highly specialized jobs, no space to call our own, no roots to grow. There’s a reason cities have the lowest birth rates, the lowest religiousness, and problems it is not mans nature.
This is why they want people packed into cities. Hunters, fisherman, (conservationists) only take what they need to survive and they respect the land and the harvest. The powers at be dont want people to be self sufficient because then they aren't consumers, they are conservatives and if you're not consuming you're not spending money and are therefore dangerous to their business model. You are 100% correct my friend, the majority of people have lost touch with the land and they want everything instantaneously and thats unnatural.

41:30 I have worked in Conservation as a paid volunteer and have visited Madagascar, Kashmir and Borneo (Indonesia) all have high levels of poverty, but generally I found people were much happier! I've been a big advocate of Nuclear for years. Enlightening to see go ol' JP is of the same mindset. If you know the technology and use your logic it's the only makes sense.
I lived near one of the largest Nuclear Plants (in the world?) near Pickering, Ontario, Canada for a wee spell. Swam in the clear waters of Lake Ontario right beside it. The water was warmer there from the cooling run-off. It was clean, the landscape surrounding was healthy and vibrant, the wildlife thriving. Nuclear is the way to go, but people have been so brainwashed to fear it because it's not in the best interest of a few wealthy Fat Cats, who care nothing for humanity or the environment.

This was a very engrossing conversation. It flew by way faster than I had imagined. I’ve never heard of Matt Ridley before and I really liked what he had to say
Listening to the story of an example home of the past near the middle, and thinking on how things have gotten better, I was reminded of a recent conversation with my in-laws. Both grew up poor in the 50s. Mom-in-law had two dresses made out of sackcloth, Dad-in-law often hunted squirrels to help with dinner. I told them about how, on the other side of the US, my mom grew up on a farm with seven siblings, had an outhouse until the 60s, a metal tub they dragged in once a week for baths. Grandpa and most of my ancestors in this region grew up in log cabins made of the logs they processed as a business (some still do today). My great grandparents would be amazed at what my family has had at it's poorest. I don't remember Mom ever buying herself something nice, but we had electricity, air conditioning and heat, indoor water and bathrooms, were able to avoid deadly childhood disease, have usually had enough food even if not always the best. I have no resentment toward those with more, only gratitude that I've lived a better life than probably all of my ancestors.
what is valuable is not being "invited to play as many number of games". it is to be invited to play as many MOST VALUABLE games. figuring out what is truly valuable and how to foster such collaboration is what make life worth living and is a lifelong process. Not all endaevor are equally good or bad and valuable

Concerning the decline of absolute poverty (which is good), it needs to be said that it goes at the cost of the middle class and the group of poor people on total is also growing, while the amount of people with middle incomes are declining(which is bad).
I love Matt Ridley’s books. They created a huge interest in me about biology and zoology (Genome, The Red Queen, The Origins of Virtue, Nature via Nurture,...). Watching him being interviewed by Jordan was such an unexpected and delightful surprise!

The only fly in the ointment is that they seemed to gloss over the problem of China, the World Economic Forum, the corruption of the UN and other international organizations, and the harm that determined, evil people can cause.
