- My first morning on my visit to NOLA in September of 2014 saw me on the corner of Royal & St Peter's and made to feel so welcome when I asked to sit in with the real deal. The, unknown to me at that point, legend that is Doreen Ketchens and friends. In a very English a way I asked;
"excuse me, I see you haven't got a trumpet player, would you mind if I sat in with you and played?"
"SURE!! What d'ya wanna play?!".....

Amazing tone, didn't know a reed could sound so clear and consistent.

Getting Doreen to play in your NOLA corner band would be like getting Lebron James to play in your local collegiate basketball team lol. "Best" doesn't even cover it. I can only presume she does it for the sheer honest and pure love of music.
That’s her name! Doreen Ketchens. I saw her as a street performer in New Orleans last year and knew that she is absolutely the best clarinetist in all of jazz. What is she doing still playing in the street? She is any bit as good as Pete Fountain.
She says next stop is Carnegie Hall she's just waiting.... but she is absolutely amazing I become very close and dear to her she just hit the street today for the first time in over a year and I'm flying down there tonight I can't wait peace
I also saw play in New Orleans and she is just plain great. There is video of her with the symphony Orchestra out there which is worth watching.

Right here it don´t matter who you are, where you come from, what color your skin is. The only thing that matters is the music!!!

I went to New Orleans last week, stayed at the Hyatt, but we went to see her Friday and saterday

Great trumpet playing, with feeling and a lot of good ideas. Only in the 1st chorus, you lag a tad behind the tempo, but that's natural, playing with a band you don't know.
Actually he is playing the lead instrument in the 1st chorus, so the rest of the band should follow his beat.
It's called pocket and he was all up in it.
Another fantastic performance from Doreen and Friends.
