Swami is a movie about a girl name Saudamini who lives with her mother and uncle after losing her father. She is a bright village girl with academic ambitions and an appetite for literature and philosophy. She is in love with her neighbour but due to some circumstances she gets married to a wheat trader against her wishes. She finds it difficult to adjust with her new life, husband and in-laws. Since I am a Bengali woman and Sarat Chandra is one of my most favourite novelists, I had the opportunity to read this book when I was in university. Loved ghanashym after reading this marvellous novella. Nowadays as a busy working woman and mother of two children, at first I thought I would not watch this masterpiece. So lucky I am, I have amended my decision. Basu Chatterjee is really a gem. He could pull up the undertone with his flawless direction. Shabana Azmi, Girish Karnad and Utpal Dutt were at their best. Love from Bangladesh ❤️🩷

This movie is based on the original Bangla book Shami by Sharatchondro Chatterji, whom the filmmakers give credit to. Later on Bollywood made a much much worse version of this story in Dhadkan and does not even give credit to the writer. Little known facts

While the song was playing, the song of this movie came to my ears and I liked it very much because of that one song I watched the whole movie and my day went well and I realized that there are such good people like Ghanshyam in the world. It was a great movie. I liked it a lot.

The story is nice. But isn't the respect is to be earned?
Ghanshyam's stepmother and brothers and sisters didn't recognise his hard work and never reciprocated his love. He was a mere ATM in the family. In his absence, his wife also had to listen to them.
Now that is not done. A person should have the ability to take stand for his wife if she is right. At the end Ghanshyam was adamant that Mini should apologise. Why?
