Swami of the 70s was my favorite movie - with Shabana & Girish Karnad. Manoj Bajpayee is as good an actor as Girish, & this Juhi Chowla who I thought was actually a S. Indian actress, turned out to be very lovely, indeed!! The two films were completely different, and although I prefer the old Swami, this one was also appreciated, for the traditional Hindu values that I recognize & understand as an Indian born & raised in Hindustan. Decades ago, the India I remember, was predominantly spiritual. Religion was a private & personal choice, not to be flaunted, simply because of the inclusiveness & united philosophy in Hindustan. The Government of India, made it a point to keep state & religion separate, in the spirit of a democratic India. Of, by & for alllll the people of India. Hinduism was a philosophy for all, but religion only to the Hindus. I was proud to call myself a "Hindustani" - But now that tends to give the impression of "Religious Bigotry" - Such a Shame!! From the outside looking in, I am saddened by Hindu extremists who strive to turn Hinduism into yet another combative religion where that "Holier than thou" & "Better than you" attitude is expressed, instead of the inclusiveness that made Hinduism the "Dharma of Good Karma" - The go to Philosophy for Inclusiveness, Peace, & Spirituality - One that made India the Spiritual Center of the World!! Sadly now, much like the so called "Holy Land" of Israel, there is UNrest & violence in the name of "Religion" in this once spiritual, now religious country. All due to an extremist Right wing Hindu Political Party (instead of Hindustani Democratic government) that clearly "Divided & Ruled" India for much too long. Better a United India, than a Divided Bharat - Ahmain🙏 Ameen🤞 Amen✌- Namaste From USA!!
