Nicely and thoroughly explained. I am working in 500MW thermal plant as a control room incharge. Today @08:04Hrs our Generator tripped on 87G protection. (Differential)
After primary findings it was observed a sudden dip of 4KA in R phase current (Generator was delivering 12KA at that time)
That dip of 4KA was only for 145milli Seconds.
I want to ask you, can't we give time delay in settings so that it should not operate if fault resets in 100mS

My relay Differential relay DTH31 (Electromagnetic relay)
Relay name plate relay operating current 1A
But i take Bias testing DC current inject 2.5 A and varying AC current.
Why not relay burn out for 2.5 A current.
Please explain briefly.

Actually in practice, you will find total 6/9 terminals out of generator. Neutral point is made outside the generator casing.
In inter turn protection, 9 terminals concept will be discussed.
@@ElectricalTalks thats mean in generator we connect ct to inner protaction and out of protaction where connection
Generator is grounded through high impedance and the fault current is restricted to just 10A to save the stator core. Differential doesn't act for such small currents. These faults are taken care by stator earth fault relay.

No, stator earth wil not operate differential protection. Bcoz cT is not connected on star point for differential prtn..
