Thank you so much for this video! It's super clear and showed me how easy it is to change the strings for this type of guitar. Thank you also for including the specific things to watch out for - I wouldn't have known otherwise!
I have been spraying WD 40 on ALL my guitar necks for donkey’s years. I have never had any ill effects to the guitar or myself. I picked the idea up from pro country players from the US in the 1970’s. Great video by the way
@@guitar-academy WD40 cleans your strings as well as your fretboard. Just sparingly spray a bit on a lint free cloth and just wipe the fingerboard and the back of the neck before playing, and after. The spin off is that your playing speed will improve, plus no more sticky varnished necks! A small can lasts for ages! No more rip off lemon oil etcetera, clogging up your fingerboard. Smells nice too!
Yes you can take all the strings off to clean the fretboard. With the G Force, just get the tuning as close as you can the first time and then let the G Force finish the job.
I think I did this wrong because after I put my 3 thickest strings on, they didn’t turn much before they were already past the point of being in tune. My low E string didn’t even make one full rotation around the part the string goes into if that makes any sense. The three thickest string all seem to rattle a lot more than before.
New strings do tend to rattle more when you first put them on, because the old string would have been work hardened and therefore they don't move very much. The number of winds shouldn't make a difference to any rattle and if you haven't cut the strings yet you can just loosen the strings off and allow a little be more through the tuning post. I hope this helps 😊
Damn, announcer in beginning made me think I’d got the wrong channel. I thought I’d hit button a murder mystery channel. Ended up being a really good way to restring and nobody died,Were eaten Etc. My 335 thanks you as I do.
Everytime I put a string through and attempt to wind it, it just lays flat against the neck. Broke my high E string tightening it and it was still laying flat
The string might not be on the saddle correctly. Look at the other strings where they go over the bridge and make sure the new string is doing the same thing. 🤔 I hope this helps
sir what is the string guage of E-6 A-5 D-4 g-3 b-2 e-1 the b string was totaly cut. i have epiphone G-400 SG. iwant to replace them all of my string but im confuse to what i used string and what is exactly the guage.
They are different from person to person, you might need to get a complete set of strings. The most used on an electric guitar are .009 or 010. But to replace that one sting the B you could try an .011
NicoleArrageMusic It depends if the rust is causing a problem. You can replace then easily enough, but many people like to keep the guitar as original as possible and like the relic look you get with a naturally aged guitar.
Ohh okay, so if it's not affecting the strings, then it's mostly by preference. I also have many bolts that have gone rusty and I'm personally not a fan of rust, I might get those changed as well.
Good question . . most of the time, just going up or down by .001 has no effect on the guitar, but if it does have an effect it will be the truss rod that needs adjusting. This video shows the process on an acoustic guitar, but the process is the same on an electric guitar. th-cam.com/video/xbKyNBYBveM/w-d-xo.html 😃
@@skatetv55 If it only goes high when you tune the guitar, it sounds like the neck is moving. Check the screws on the back of the neck and if it's not that you need to let someone look at it who knows a little about guitars. It sounds like the kind of problem that needs to be seen to be diagnosed properly . . sorry
GCH Guitar Academy Yeah... Im gonna have to talk with my buddy about this. But thank you guys for help ;)!!!! Also do i check them like if they are tight enough or?
That's not standard out of the factory. Some people do it so they can screw the tailpiece further into the body to make buzz or rattles less likely. Others do it to give the guitar a better feel when palm muting, others do it just because they think it looks cool. There are lots of other reasons as well . . . Just be aware that the strings will scratch the tailpiece eventually. 😊
Yes, as I say in the video 'it is probably better to do too many wraps rather than too few'. I tend to find that on the thicker strings 1 or 2 is enough, but on the thin strings a 3 or 4 is better. But if you do to few winds and leave enough loose string, as you play the string will slip until it becomes stable and stays in tune.
The Gibson Flying V has exactly the same tune-o-matic bridge as this guitar. So the only difference regarding changing strings is the shape of the guitar.
This is by far the best tutorial. Elegant, clear, and the tips are what sets this one apart from almost all the rest. Thank you.
Thank you very much . . I really glad you enjoyed it 😊😃

1 year later, and same.

Are you pro guitarist?
Can you do all strings at one time so that you can clean the fretboard? Also how would it work with a Gibson with G Force tuner?
Yes you can take all the strings off to clean the fretboard. With the G Force, just get the tuning as close as you can the first time and then let the G Force finish the job.
Thanks for the video. How much single use plastic on your set of strings! Elixir have all recyclable paper and card wrapping.
good question . . but remember, this video was made early 2014 and even Elixir didn't use recyclable paper back then. 🤔

What oil do you recommend for cleaning the guitar fretboard after removing the strings?
I use almond oil, which can be bought at any pharmacist
cool thanks! What are your thoughts on using big bends nut sauce for lubricating the nut?
I don't use it personally, so I can't comment honestly. My main playing guitar is an Ibanez with a locking nut.
Cold pressed lynseed oil. Once a year if needed. Depending on where you live. Arizona more than London. Lol

I own the same guitar, however 3/6 of the blades (G,B & E) on the saddle are a bit rusty. In your opinion, should I replace them with a new saddle?

what about the slack of the string ? seems u hardly gave the string slack ? im new to electric guitar
The strings shouldn't be too slack because you don't want too many winds on the tuning post.
@@guitar-academy i've actually never heard this before. why is it bad to have too many winds? for the small E i like to wind it at least 3-4 times.
@@1969MARKETING 3 or 4 winds is about right . . it's only when you get into the 10, 20 or more winds that it becomes a problem . . 😊

This few wraps, doesn't seem like it will stay in tune well

Because the flying V has the same metalwork, so the restringing is the same
