I'm surprised that this method wasn't used on any of the regicides convicted in the execution of King Charles. Considering that they went to all the trouble of digging up Cromwell's corpse and "executing" that. Although the punishments the regicides did suffer were pretty horrifying anyway.
No sympathy for him. You can't go around trying to kill people, never mind a king, just because you don't like them. Yes his execution was a bit on the brutal side but so was his attempt on the King's life. The axe he used looked terrifying.

Also just because he tried it you do not have the right to kill him in such a brutal and inhuman way, I mean seriously the death scentence is the most hypocritical thing I know of and being so macabre as creative with his slaughter just shows they are not better than him. Kings literally killed any commoner they wanted whenever they wanted, and they killed nobles too if they thought they could get away with it. If the death penalty is acceptable, why shouldn't kings be subject to it too?
Not to be too critical of the dead here, but a spiked warhammer is way down on my list of shit to assassinate people with. In the time it took him to swing that thing twice, he could've stabbed him in the neck with a knife probably half a dozen times
Imo this is more a blemish on Catholocism than all of Christianity. To this day I have yet to hear what the justification was for the catholic church not lifting a finger about any of this. They regulated the size of sticks you could beat your wife with (or so I've heard), but tearing people apart by horses was perfectly OK?
