  • As Five Stars Return, Incoming Liverpool Manager Arne Slot Gears Up For Crucial Transfer Choices.
Although Arne Slot has yet to be formally announced as Jurgen Klopp's replacement, he's already delving into the details of what awaits him at Anfield this summer. The 45-year-old is poised to become Liverpool's new head coach this month following negotiations between Anfield officials and his current club Feyenoord, whom he guided to the Eredivisie title last season. Alongside reviewing footage from Anfield's illustrious history, Slot will also assess recent English Football League matches to evaluate players like Tyler Morton, Fabio Carvalho, and Luke Chambers, who have been gaining experience on loan. Additionally, Owen Beck and Sepp van den Berg, who had successful loan spells away from Anfield last season, will also be scrutinized by Slot during the early stages of pre-season, along with their peers.
    Tyler Morton
In September last year, 21-year-old Tyler Morton secured his second consecutive loan move to the Championship, this time joining promotion-chasing Hull City after a stint at Blackburn Rovers. Following the end of his loan, Morton will return to Anfield for pre-season and is expected to be included in the Reds' squad for their tour of America, giving him the chance to impress Arne Slot. The midfielder has openly expressed his desire to build a successful career at Anfield, akin to his idol Steven Gerrard, and aims to showcase his well-rounded skill set this summer, which has earned him recognition at both club and national levels.
    Fabio Carvalho
The 2023/24 season will evoke mixed feelings for Fabio Carvalho as he reflects on his campaign in the coming weeks and months. After a disappointing debut season at Anfield, Carvalho made the bold decision to join RB Leipzig last July. Like Morton, Carvalho will return to Anfield following the conclusion of his loan spell at Hull City, with the sole aim of breaking into Slot's plans for the next season. Carvalho believes it's a fresh start for both him and Morton, acknowledging the potential changes at the club with Klopp's departure. Carvalho could benefit from Slot's tactical adjustments, as Slot has a history of deploying a natural attacking midfielder in a 4-3-3 system, unlike Klopp's preferred roles for him on the left side of attack or in a more restricted midfield position.
    Sepp van den Berg
One thing certain upon Slot's arrival is that he'll find himself surrounded by compatriots at Anfield.
Van den Berg expressed his desire earlier this year to establish his career in England or Germany, showing little inclination to return to Holland.
However, his chances of displacing either Ibrahima Konate or Jarell Quansah as Van Dijk's understudy next season seem slim, even after a strong campaign in Germany, especially considering Liverpool's potential addition of another centre-back this summer.
    Nat Phillips
It's conceivable that this summer could mark Liverpool finally honoring Nat Phillips and letting go of the defender.
The 27-year-old has largely been on the fringes at Anfield, aside from his standout performances alongside Rhys Williams during the injury crisis of the 2020/21 season, helping Liverpool finish third in the Premier League.
Regarding his future, Phillips expressed openness to returning to Cardiff City next season amidst the changes at Anfield as Slot prepares to take over from Klopp.
    Luke Chambers
Following a successful stint at League One club Wigan Athletic, left-back Luke Chambers seems poised to stake his claim at Anfield during the summer.
With Kostas Tsimikas sliding down the defensive hierarchy in recent months due to Joe Gomez's consistent performances in the absence of first-choice left-back Andy Robertson, there could be an opportunity for Chambers to impress Slot and secure a place at Anfield next season. This possibility increases further if Tsimikas decides to seek opportunities elsewhere to advance his career after serving as a backup for four years.
