man, chat was fucking _torn_ on this game with half of everyone saying they were able to relate to it (myself included), while the other half were saying this was trying way too hard to be deep. hell even vin seemed like he was only being entertained by the party skeleton. i feel like this game would've been better if it had less pages or something cause while it is cool and definitely... out there, it just kinda really overstays its welcome imo.

My depression is different, so I found the game to be dark and amusing.
There's some serious potential to this, but the execution was atrocious imo. There are moments that had me either giggling or relating to the idea, but there are huge parts of this that just don't work. If it were done in a more interesting, less drawn out and more "interactive" way, then it'd be way more engaging. Plus it'd be good if it weren't so fucking annoying with the squeaky voices and so on.

If you got further into the game theres a window that opens up called "streamers lets play" or something and it has someone saying "what the fuck is this? is this drugs?" like it mocks streamers who played this and said that.

I find the divide in opinion of this game interesting. On one end people complain that the game tries too hard to be "deep" and on the other hand there seem to be an equal amount of people who said they could relate to it to an uncomfortable degree. An argument I saw a lot in the comments is that it hammers its point too hard in the "yeah I get it" kind of sense, but imagine if you are someone in this sort of anxious depressed mindset, and when you try to express your felling to someone the response you get is "yeah jeez I get it". I don't know if that's what the game's maker was going for but I find it interesting nonetheless
imo the reason its so annoying is because the humor + asshole visuals + pitch shifted earrape makes the game unbearable after thirty minutes. I get where it's coming from, and it's a really interesting game, but you really cant expect someone to bear through the eye strain for an hour. If it just ended at 30 minutes with it's message already said, it'd be leagues better.

It's weird how everyone is writing this game off as pessimism, when it's really about depression/mental illness in general.
Pessimism: People become friends because they don't want to be seen as lonely. Tragedy doesn't matter because people will still have to go to their jobs to survive. Death is always lingering and yet we're forced to work till then.
Depression: My friends must hate me. I want to die. I can barely get out of bed, how can i get a job? I'm useless.
I thought the part with the bunny losing it's legs made it obvious enough, but apparently not. Just listen to how the bunny keeps asking for help, and in reply gets horrible advice. It works the same way in the real world.

"Maybe some self-help is what you need."
And honestly, I don't think the game "drives the point too much," because this is what it's like living with depression. Even when you try to be positive, depression is always lingering to bring you down. (As seen with the bunny and the mirror.) It even shows up when you don't expect it. (As seen with the monster and the worm.)
Honestly? I find this game great and I wish we got to see the story in order.

I come to this video after seeing some talk about the game after it was at Day of Indies or something up at San Fran.
And the maker seemed really super personally invested in this game and does not take the criticism well. Not a fan of most of the Streamer sorts, since big streamers tend to go with the same notes ("wow this is fucked up are they on drugs hahaha ) and tend to bring a crowd of hate to her.
It's kinda a bummer .

I myself have been in through stages of deep anxiety, hatred and depression before.
however Vinny's streams in particular, give me happiness. i'm guessing youre not a fan from what you said about streamers? you see this video was pretty different because he said himself had no idea what this game was. he probably got a bit more entertainment out of it than most, but it's not fair to blame Vinny or (most) other major streamers for "bringing a crowd of hate" when I can tell you that is the last thing they want.

I actually kind of get this game. Not all of it, but a lot of it. It is legitimately uncomfortable. The idea that the rabbit can't hold on forever no matter what you say, or can't make its life better. Or conversation being a game. Or constantly having your tongue putting you down and needing friends to help. I like it.
The one with the “making friends to survive” thing kind of represents what happens when you try to find help with depression.

There's a strange kind of deep dark but warm comfort I get from watching this game.
Making light of darkness is all you can do sometimes, and it's those little fleeting moments of disparity and isolation where you just look around and give a blank smile and remind yourself everything is gonna be okay, where life doesn't seem so heavy and overwhelming.
But they are indeed fleeting.. Which is why you just have to smile even harder!

Then it just became somewhat annoying. I can relate to what the creator was going through (hell, i used to draw cute animals dying talking about nihilism and shit when i was depressed in high school) but I doubt this game is a good coping mechanism for anyone. People in the chat were having to click away because the game was bringing up their anxiety.

I only watched bits and pieces but it's scary how much was relatable, recognizable, familiar and reminded me of my friend and my interactions with her, she's gone through and is still going through a ton of stuff because of her abusive upbringing (that she's still trying her best to get away from) causing depression, ptsd, bpd, self hatred, self harm, suicidal tendencies, disassociating and more, just so much was too familiar and now that I understand her better a lot of what I saw in this game was mindsets and behaviors she's gone through and I feel like I understand her even more now and it's really good to know but also really scary because I don't know how to help, I know that this game might not apply to my friend but I feel like I understand the mental illnesses she's been going through her whole life more, I think I understand this game and I think I need to avoid it, I want to be positive support for my friend and I want to actually help her unlike those bunnies that just suggest therapy and self help, I don't want to make light of what she's going through or make her feel like she's not doing enough or that getting better will be easy but I also want to give her hope

@@RosesRedThorns I enjoyed the game. I like the colour palette(?), it may stain the eyes of some but I find it pleasing. So subjective may not be random but it sure has more variety than you may think.
The creator wanted this to feel broken as hell, not functional for the player, more like drag the player around for whatever reason. This is not a thing you should stream, but some people already commented that. It also makes my brain deactivate as I witness the color mess unfold, it's really trippy.
I have the weirdest sense of humor, I guess, because most of the game has me laughing. The fucking page 4 survey questions keep making me laugh out loud because of the absurdity.

This game perfectly summates what it's like to be in my head when I'm off my pills
This looks and sounds like a cry for help from a depressed, nihilistic teenager/young adult but comes across as a little grating. Mental illness and depression is a big problem but if anyone makes it public it will be grating to everyday people. Like "Get over it", "we get it you're depressed" and "You have anxiety, so?" are common things I hear and see (aswell in this comment section) being said about depression and anxiety. That's really bad for a person to hear if they're depressed, it only helps the thought that they're useless and not normal. I know this because I'm speaking of experience. This game (or site or whatever) could be grating to people (including me) who haven't felt this way or hear it alot on a daily basis. Although it's different from person to person, I have noticed alot that it's hard to ask for help if you're feeling suicidal or depressed. For me, I had to mentally crack before I could ask for help. And that's obviously not a good thing. Some are more sensitive to everyday stress and eventually question one's exitence (including me) because of it.
If this was made to cope with a person's depression and anxiety then good on you! Otherwise, this was a little tryhard but understandable and somewhat relateable. I find it a little annoying because of the high pitched voices and bunnies. Its message got across but its exicution and delivery of that message could (and IMO should) have been made more subtle. And this is coming from a depressed 19-yearold with ADD and anxiety problems.
ps. I am self-aware of my problems and everybody don't need to know that I'm depressed because people likely don't care. I'm not looking for sympathy points but just wanted to get this out there. Being depressed is hell but making it public will mostly have negative effect on you (other than letting people know that you're not well and so can't attend some things, go to work/school etc).
Raytastic The thing is is that this all isn't a statement on mental illness. There were many opinion/random parts as well. And the perspectives presented aren't just offered, the author wants you to agree with them. The fact that the game is talking about mental illness isn't the problem, it's that it's trying to influence the player. It's not simply "this is how I feel" it's "you need to feel like this". I hope that makes sense. Although I definitely agree that it's a problem when people speak up about their illness and people silence them by calling them "edgy" or something, this game is definitely forcing the message, which comes off as edgy in this case.
It's not even any of that, if you think depression and mental illness makes you not normal, then you're going to miss the point of people in life being like "so what?" Because more than half of the population of this planet is depressed, and we've all been there, and we don't want to hear you complain about it too.

People who don't go through depression literally have no clue what you could be going through. They want you to feel better and to not be depressed but there really is no way for them to know how to make you feel better, and 99% of the time they can't. Those people were only trying to be nice to you they only way they knew how to. I'm not a trained professional so whenever one of my friends are depressed I'm heartbroken as I don't know what to do, as anything I do could make it better or worse. Well, this was interesting, but it also mostly just left me depressed. The game has a sense of sincerity to it that a lot of people here aren't actually understanding. The game is a bit more than just pretentious bullshit, and certainly more than the average commenter would lead you to believe. Honestly, I enjoyed bits of this game, and maybe I'll check it out a bit more for myself sometime. I have to admit though, it was really unpleasant at times. Its depictions of depression were really not doing great things for me, to be perfectly honest.
anyway, this game is legitimately interesting, but it's really not a good stream game. It's kinda slow and it probably feels kinda pointless for most viewers. But hey, oh well.

...This genuinely makes me sick to my stomach. Firstly, it is SUPPOSED to be uncomfortable to play, look at, listen to, and is supposed to be heavy handed as it's literally just the fucked up mental diarrhea of a mentally ill and abused person, it's a personal venting that they decided to publish for one reason or another in hopes that SOMEONE out there could relate to it. It's supposed to be scattered and nonsensical because it's basically just thoughts as they were in the moment.
As someone who's played the entire game and viewed as much of it as possible AND has gone through MANY of the things listed in the game (mental illness, depression, abuse), this all really just PROVES many of the points in it. And as much as I love Vin, I still can't really forgive him for just barely playing it, reacting badly to it and riling up chat, and never apologizing for unintentionally sending his rabid fan base to the creator to harass her further.
It will always leave a sour taste in my mouth... Hence why, like most fans who feel this way, I just push this out of my mind until it unfortunately rears it's ugly head again. Vinny's a good guy and I like his stuff and he meant no harm, but there is NO denying that he's made mistakes that ended up being very hurtful. In fact, iirc this has happened with the other game(s) that he streamed made by this creator. Popular streamers or let's players have made mistakes because they forget how impactful they can be.
I just wish he'd revisit it sometime and do what he did with active worlds, where he pre-records it so as not to have chat fucking ruin things, maybe have a warning at the beginning that this game has some DARK themes and heavy-handed messages (and might give people headaches/epilepsy), and to NOT go after the creator.

The game has a cool technicolor chaos about it, it's visual presentation only allows for minimal structure for exploration of the space. It tries to deliver it's nihilistic motif a bit to strongly with it's dialog though, if it's dialog was a bit more subtle then it could have been a nice treat. Of course if too subtle it would only appear as utter nonsense without context, as a appose to nonsense with context. :-P

Anxiety makes it feel like people don't give a shit about you. Depression makes you grab for attention until you realize that people really DON'T give a shit. I think this game summed it up perfectly. People just want someone to care.

Too many people here are critique this game as if they were trying to critique a triple-A game, not this, which I say is more of an attempt to be understood, maybe a cry for help. I don't think it was made with gameplay quality in mind or to "drive a point". Sure, it may be an un-fun game to some (most even), but i'm not sure if fun is this game's goal
Not true at all. The problem with all these artsy-fartsy wastes of data and hard drive space is that they're too heavy-handed and pretentious for their own good. Also, ALL games deserve to be criticised on equal footing. Be it big-budget AAA/AA games or small independent works. Too many idiots give indie games a free pass because "they're indie". Which is just as dumb as a CoD fanboy trying to defend CoD by saying "it's popular".
"Everything is going to be OK" is no exception to this rather consistent rule. It is a waste of time to play and it is a waste of development hours that could have been spent on something much better than the end result we, the public actually got.
I mean, why else would you play games if not to have fun or learn a message? If i wanted to feel pain i would shoot myself in the foot. This seems more of an excuse for shitty writing than anything else.

I know of people from back in my high school days that would have reached with this bizarre game about social anxiety. Maybe some of them are still out here, some 30 years later, and would like to check it out.
Alright, like some other people here, I've also done fisticuffs with my fair share of mental illness and other not fun shitty feels in general, and while this game is relatable at times, it did begin to drag on for way too long. I think that this game would've benefited from having some sort of end goal to lead the player along, or at least making the visuals less migraine-inducing.
There isn't an "end goal" in depression though. Its something you just have to keep dealing with, it can get better but it never goes away.
I've legit tried to watch this like 5 different times and i can't bring myself to do it. Idk if it's disinterest or subconscious repulsion but i just can't
