Hey Tom that looks like a blast. Definitely a lot of 18 to 24 inch scraps that I don’t like parting with. Within a couple of hours you can have beautiful one of a kind table piece. Love the power carving. Looks like fun although messy. Great SNL
Maybe you could consider tilting the table on your bandsaw when rough cutting the blank for your bowl. You would still have plenty of stock to use your power carver on and have less mess. Thanks for the video.

Hey Tom, that was a great SNL. The timing is great as well since I’ve just been going through (again) the shop stool course. I think there are two more before you get into the power carving of the seat so looking forward to that. Love the organic aspect to this and the many possibilities! I’m really interested in turning as well but the obvious limitation is that everything is perfect round lol. Hand carving is also an interest but it’s almost intimidating with the multitude of tools, learning curve etc. This is so cool and seems a little more “accessible.” Will be picking up one of each of those for sure (with the link👍👍)
The bowl you made is so cool as well and steps outside the constraints of a lathe. Was thinking inside something like that there could be one or more soft ridges as “dividers” and someone could serve different nuts or something like that🫤. Anyway many possibilities.
I missed this episode last year. Over that time I am making a Maloof Inspired set of bar chairs. I discovered the Kutzall products in various grits. Harbor Freight Bauer line grinders are inexpensive. So much that it is possible to have a grinder for each "wheel" .Thanks for an idea of what to do with my growing pile of 8/4 scraps.
Very interesting. I have done a bit of carving on boxes, bowls, rocking horses, etc., so I can appreciate Esherwick's and Maloof's comments about using whatever works well and fast. As they suggest, it makes a difference whether you see yourself as making a piece of art or if you see yourself as making a living. These guys were good enough, as you are, to do both. The heart and the head, then the tools -- any kind of tool that works. These days, I prefer hand tools for carving because they are quieter and make less dust and noise. Just an old guy's preference. But if I were carving bowls and boxes for art galleries, or if I had a bigger project like a rocking horse, I would go back to using a grinder with Arbotech cutters. Without delay. Without question. As Esherwick said, " Turning on the switch is a very important thing." 😎 I really like his no B.S. attitude: WWWED? Just. Get. It. Done. Thanks for another terrific video. 👍👍
