Hi Gio, I saw your channel yesterday and have seen a couple of your vlogs that were well made and informative. Thank you for sharing some info about ASMPH, the tuition and scholarship info that I found very interesting. I am a med school grad in The Philippines back in 1983 but have been based in the U.S. since then. In case you and/or your viewers are interested, just for comparison, I want to share the cost of a med school education (by all means not the most expensive) in one of the private med schools in the U.S., Temple Univ. Med School in Philadelphia, PA where my younger son went from 2014-18. The figures are in US$. Tuition per semester was a little more than $25,000 for PA residents like him or for non-PA residents $30,000. Lodging (he was in an off campus apartment) about $1000 per month. Meals and allowance another $1000 per month. Textbooks were minimal as they used medical e-books. So more or less our investment in our son's medical education was about $70,000 per year. I know you'll agree that's a lot of money! What's ironic though is for someone who is a med school grad from The Philippines who applies for Residency training here in the U.S., will have the same salary as a U.S. med school grad, that ranges from about $60K to 70K annually depending on the area of the country. Moreover, the salary potential after completing residency at that point will also be relatively the same. Needless to say, the main advantage that a U.S. med school grad from a foreign med school grad is a higher chance of acceptance for Residency training with the former than the latter. Be that as it may, many Philippine med school grad do get accepted into post-graduate training here. Thanks for your efforts in sharing info with us and more power to your medical career and your TH-cam channel!
thank you for sharing this! im sure a lot of people reading your comment will find it very informative and useful in planning how to go about their medical career!
Congrats on 1000, Gio! 🤩 Hoping more aspiring med students (and current med students) are inspired and feel a sense of community through your vlogs 💙 More power!!! 🤩
You just answered the questions I was asking myself regarding my chances to enter ASMPH. This is really informative. Thank you so much. Future med student here, I guess.
This channel deserves more subscribers. I’ve been replaying some of your videos na since I finished all of them na 😂 So please more videos pa doc gio (lol kahit alam kong super busy ka)
Uy same hahaha bs accountancy grad and decided to go to med school but feeling ko di ako mag excel so i decided to take 2nd degree na PT and then med after. LABAN SA ATIN!!
Been waiting for this since your last vlog and I finished watching your other videos for about 2 nights only. You’re actually the only filipino med vlogger that I’m following. Superb quality, keep it up🙂
Yea- I relate to this... Hopefully I get a scholarship or a grant at least (or find a person to pay for it, I’ve heard some people are willing to pay it off) or I have to persuade my parents.
Thank you very much for this video, Doc. ASMPH has been my dream med school since I started dreaming to be a Doctor but the time I found out abt the MD-MBA thing the time I visited ASMPH web that time, it saddens me a lot because I might not be able to add more load of pressure than to MD program. I might not go to ASMPH someday which saddens me a lot.. Best Wishes to you kuya Doc! 💙
Ay bet ko 'tong q&a video. Dream ko din mag study sa isang med school, kaya lang i ended up taking a business course. Panoorin nalang kita char hehe :)
Yan din sana gusto kong course basta any medical course kaso ang problema sobra akong madidiriin baka mahimatay nalang ako bigla, pero kung pag uusap natin sa academics walang magiging problema...
Hi po. Can you please make a video dedicated on discussing your study methods. I'm using anki to make flashcards rn for my majors. I'm looking for new methods to make my study sessions less time consuming kasi andami nang majors sa higher years
tbh I think you might even have better study methods than me! I never used Anki flashcards or anything special. I'd just always listen to the lecture, and read the transes twice, some of them I'd read a few hours before the test, because of how much there is to read!
If a student na hindi nagstart as a merit scholar, reaches the required grade to be one after a sem, can he/she also avail that scholarship; or exclusive lang siya sa mga nagsimula talaga sa ASMPH as a merit scholar?
Weird question: How old are you when you entered first year Med? And is there a lot of students who are generally much older than the “average” med school student?
Of course, different standards of living apply :) What might be cheap for you over there would be an entirely different matter in this country. The American education system is also vastly different from the Philippine one. Students here can study to become doctors for a minimal tuition fee (compared to ASMPH) as some state universities in the province offer medicine programs which some foreign students actually go for. Some med schools are also quite generous with their scholarships, be it merit-based or financial needs-based. Above all, it is not the norm for Filipino students to be burdened by student debt after earning their degrees :)
Considering you'll graduate with an MBA degree as well, the tuition isn't so bad. I wonder if you like Math? does it mean you have to be good in Math if you choose ASMPH? What do you think? I don't know but me and my friends pag may need i-compute, we'll joke around na "kaya nga ako nag med diba" 😆
THANK GOD I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL asmph’s my dream med school!! I have a question lang about the MBA curriculum, is it hard to balance along with the med subjects especially if you came from a science course and literally know nothing about business? Thank you and good luck in clerkship!!! 💙
For the financial aid scholarship po, do I have to apply for it each year OR, once they grant me on my first year, all I have to do is maintain my high grades and they’ll continue to provide fin aid scholarship for me (for the rest of my med years)?
If I’m not mistaken, i think you have to apply for it each year? I’m not exactly sure, but I’ll make sure to ask my friends about that and inform everyone in a future video :)
Good day doc! Can i ask what are the requirement for the ASMPH Financial Aid Scholarship? I am soon be applying to different med school and Ateneo med is one of my choices. Hope you can help me po. Thank you and Congrats po! I always your vlogs hehe
we take the usual subjects needed in med school, such as anatomy, pathology, microbiology, physiology, parasitology, biochem, and all those other subjects! but we have subjects for our MBA degree too, which includes stuff like Principles of Management, Economics, Accounting, Human Resource Management, etc!
Hello kuya! Thank you so much po for the video. Ask ko lang po, saan po kaya puwedeng kumuha ng necessary units for ASMPH since I'm coming from a non-trad undergrad. Salamat po
ohhh, I don't think so. A lot of patient interactions are graded, and a lot of the conversations are in tagalog so it'd be hard to converse with patients if the student only spoke English. Although I have schoolmates who came from the US, with barely any knowledge about speaking in tagalog, but they're managing well!
Hello po! Can we get a video about your stats prior to entering asmph? Like NMAT score, extra curriculars, GWA, awards/research, etc. If willing lang naman kayo i-share hehe
Its been a long time since I took NMAT, and I don't think I have enough content to make a video for it, but here's what I did to prepare 1. Enrolled in review classes (UPLINK, Katipunan Avenue) Saturdays AND Sundays (8am-5pm) for 10(?) sessions. Enrolling in a review class really helped me prepare because they gave me a lot of reviewers and tips on how to take the NMAT 2. Bought MSA reviewers from national book store, and would answer those in my free time 3. Because of how hectic college life was as a senior back then, I only truly started to review for NMAT 1 week before the testing day. And all I did was re-review the materials that my review center gave me :)
Hello. May i know how much is the tuition fee on your fifth year? My daughter got accepted at asmph and i am researching the tuition fees, trying to compare it with other med schools. Hope u can reply. Thanks!
6:36 for the tuition fees. Thank me later 😊

Am still dreaming to go to Ateneo as my medschool even though the tuition is so expensive haha... Kudos to the content 😍

Thank you! 😃

I like how the way you speak. Sana ako rin. Good job Dokie! 😊😊😊
instead of MBA...mas maganda sana kung machine learning nalang ang kasamang course sa medicine dyan sa uni nyo...
Watching this while doing my thesis haha thinking if gusto ko pa ba talaga mag-aral 🥲
Yan din sana gusto kong course basta any medical course kaso ang problema sobra akong madidiriin baka mahimatay nalang ako bigla, pero kung pag uusap natin sa academics walang magiging problema...
Grabe. I hope this existed nung 2016 pa. THIS IS VERY INFORMATIVE. I could have gone to Ateneo, instead. :(
Where did you go?
New subscriber here! Thank you for this informative video & keep up the good work! =)
Med gusto pag aralan ng grade ko now nag iisip xia saan mag enroll na.my. voucher
Apparently the pandemic's demands for more med students removed the hard science prerequisites earlier this year.
i like internal medicine pero actual "fast-paced" ER will be the death of me istg
Cheapest medical school in USA is 6X price of ASM (tuition)

@GIO IIagan do your college accept foreign students?
Weird question: How old are you when you entered first year Med? And is there a lot of students who are generally much older than the “average” med school student?
Omg I was actually shocked bc for us that’s really cheap here in America it costs around 9 million pesos to 15 million pesos for med school 😓
Of course, different standards of living apply :) What might be cheap for you over there would be an entirely different matter in this country.

Stay handsome doc! chos HAHAHAH
Good day po! May you clarify po about the GIDA scholarship? 😅 I read about it in 2021 ASMPH handbook hehe

I SUCK AT MATH HAHA “KAYA NGA AKO NAG MED DIBA” EXACTLY HAHAHAHA
can you make a vid why choose asmph for med school? Rooting for you!
might wanna check out my med school application experience video! I explained it there :)
Bitiiiiiin hahaha
How many hours is your sleeping time in ASMPH?

hello po, just saw your vids tonight hehe. do i need to pass the board exam of my pre-med course po before entering med-school?

Tagalog or English both
Superb quality content 💯💯💯
Hi Doc, how about the tuition fee for the fifth year? Thanks
Hi, doc! Wondering if you have or plan to make a video on your experience with YL6? Thank you. Keep safe!!

I don't wanna be a med stu but here I am.
How much po yong entire program? Would one million be enough?
Are you using phone only? The audio is pretty clear!
Good day doc! Can i ask what are the requirement for the ASMPH Financial Aid Scholarship? I am soon be applying to different med school and Ateneo med is one of my choices. Hope you can help me po. Thank you and Congrats po! I always your vlogs hehe

Most expensive medical school in ortigas
well, you're not wrong HAHA
Sir, may I ask what subjects do students take in asmph?

I think as long as you get it in any college that offers it, pwede na!
Hi, Gio. I have a reverse question regarding English: is it possible to graduate from Ateneo speaking English only?
ohhh, I don't think so. A lot of patient interactions are graded, and a lot of the conversations are in tagalog so it'd be hard to converse with patients if the student only spoke English. @@GioIlagan Thank you very much for the feedback.
pwede po ba ang may tattoo sa asmph?
Of course! Why not!
Not sure if this was asked yet, but what’s the most suitable pre-med degree?
BS BIOLOGY/ZOOLOGY 😊
For me, Medical Technology, PT/OT or Nursing. 😊
3rd year Med Tech subjects are 1st-2nd year subjects in Medicine like Microbiology/Parasitology, Histology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, etc.
@@emiato8850 oh i see. Are there courses/subjects in Med Tech not offered in Bio? We're contemplating between the two actually.
Hi! New subscriber here. tanong ko lang, ano ba magiging trabaho ng isang med student na ndi nakapasa ng board exam?
wow....that's a very good question.......I actually....dont know....... HAHAH im so sorry I dont know...
interesting field
The Ateneo* may stress talaga sa part na yun.
Where did you get your phone case? Hehehe. (Yun talaga ang napansin) hehe
I think that's the apple case with built in power-bank! tho it's just a hand-me-down from my cousin :)
So magiging pre-med, md, and mba po ba?
pre-med degree is attained by graduating college! the MD-MBA is after graduating med school (asmph) :)
Hello po! Can we get a video about your stats prior to entering asmph? Like NMAT score, extra curriculars, GWA, awards/research, etc. If willing lang naman kayo i-share hehe
I'll take note of this hehehe we'll see!!
Hi how many sem po ba sa med school per year?
2 long semesters and 1 summer semester, per year :)
Wow athletic
alam mo naman pag only child....
Can you create a video on how you prepared for NMAT? Thank you, doc 😌❤️
