I've done this job before but I was hoping to see how you got that top bolt out. I'm on a M111 powered 02 C230, and it's slightly different but not much. 1st time I ran extensions all the way to the back of the tranny, but I've heard it's possible to get it withot going to uh...such lengths :) (oh i crack myself up) > But as you say, there's a reason no one has a good video of removing that bolt!!! PIA!!!!
Thanks! I have a suggestion for you. Pelican parts gives a step by step instructions on replacing part with photos. The best way to replace the starter is to follow their instructions and remove the motor Mount bolt on driver side and jack up engine 2 inches. Lots of room to get starter in and out. I fought it but than removed bolt and got the 2 inches. Much easier. Question I have for you is. I took off 2 wires and reattached to starter. Is there a third wire? Thanks again

what are are all the sizes of the sockets did you use to get the starter down and back up
Could the broken earth cable be the reason the starter didn’t work? I think I would have fixed that first then tried to start it again.
