  • I really, really don’t like the stock 27MHz radio, the Heng Long 2.4GHz set is nicer but still very limited… So today we’re going to convert the Tiger to run from a hobby grade radio!

    Im so excited to see more of this build, I myself have the M26 Pershing with a 9X and an an Arduino Uno waiting to go in it, please oh please do a video detailing the board and setup, I was considering bypassing the RX18 Escs as well but need new ones so I am looking forward to seeing how your build goes. Good luck and have fun!

    Actually it would be possible to buy control unit 2'4 gh last verison, and replace the old 27mhz?

    Hello:-)
    Have you considered making a video on the new Taigen Tank's new V2 electronics board that has the option to hook up a hobby grade Receiver and use a Hobby grade transmitter to run the tank? I have looked all over TH-cam and have not found any videos on how to run a Taigen Tank using a Hobby grade set to run a tank. It would be very helpful is someone made one.
    Thank you for your attention and for all of your outstanding videos.
    Guy:-)

      It's a waste of time.
      The Taigen transmitter is fine and with a hobby radio you lose the ability to use the machine gun

    Where can I buy the board ??
    Thx

      I never got it as far as making a product, the source the firmware is a derivative of is somewhere on RCGroups if you like playing with Arduino's though.
      These the best thing to do is grab one of the newer 2.4GHz HengLong radios and control box's. They're not quite as configurable, but they're reliable and have some fairly good sounds too.

    Can you buy a board off the self to replicate the job of the one you made? I am fairly switched on when it comes to electronics but not to the level where I can knock up a board like you

      RC Tanks Austrailia do the RC5HL Lite which does a very similar job. I've not tried one myself so can't say how well they work though.

    Hello! Would this work with the stock 2.4ghz RX-18? I want to do this but I have the 2.4ghz one instead of the 27mhz.
    Thanks.

    • @RCMojoTV
      @RCMojoTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 27MHz RX18 has a separate receiver so you can send the commands from the microprocessor through the connector the receiver normally uses. The 2.4GHz RX18 has the receiver built in so there’s no easy way change to a different radio, it’s possible although unlikely the same protocol is used internally but I don’t know of anyone whos reverse engineered one.
      You would be better off keeping an eye out for a cheap newer 27MHz RX18 if you want to DIY it, or if you want to go the whole hog one of the complete replacement systems.

    • @brandon7494
      @brandon7494 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok thanks! Not sure how much the 27mhz RX-18 differs from the 2.4ghz in terms of where the leads plug into so would it just be advisable to purchase the 27mhz module without the leads? Also I have no idea where I would start with the arduino board if I get the 27mhz module If that makes sense.

    • @RCMojoTV
      @RCMojoTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know the 27MHz RX18 that looks all but identical to the 2.4GHz is pin compatible, but with a couple of the connectors moved position.
      If you’ve never gone beyond plug and play electronics using an Arduino might be quite a big step, don’t expect instant results. The good thing though, once you get there you can set it up to do pretty much what ever you want! Ultimate flexibility.
      Having said that there are replacements for the RX18 that are far more advanced, like the IBU2 and IBU3. They’re as close to plug and play as you’ll get and simply connect up to a standard hobby receiver.

      I don't think I do unfortunately. I based it on a project that was on RCGroups which should still be there. Searching Heng Long protocol might turn it up.
