I moved to Crystal Lake 3 years after the tornado. I know many of these folks, and have heard some of their stories and have seen the photographs. The area has not had such a severe weather event either before (as far as records go) or since. It astounds me that such a powerful and deadly (EF4 or 5) tornado would be the only such event to occur here, and that it hit the commercial heart of the city as well, a direct bull's eye. Very interesting eyewitness account. Thanks to the Northwest Herald.

I've watched numerous videos and read many books about this particular day, but most of them concentrated on the damage in northern Indiana. Little did I know what happened to you in Illinois. Our family had to retreat to our basement later that evening, but our neighborhood avoided any damage from the tornado that swept through parts of Toledo.

The atmosphere doesn't get more volatile than this. I can only imagine what the cape values were.

I live in Milwaukee suburban area we had severe storms that Palm Sunday in 1965. Really strange weather here. I remember it being foggy by Lake Michigan earlier and the storms blowing in by afternoon and the air raid siren going off and we beat it to our basement. No damage that I knew of in the metro area but we went out to eat supper because we had no power in our house.

I was a 9 year old kid in Dearborn Heights, MI when this outbreak happened. MI did have some tornadoes that day, but none in our area. Some friends and I were out playing in the garage when the weather started to get stormy. My mom called out the back window for us to come in and go down the basement to play. We had tornado watches in effect. My dad and I took my friends home before the weather got too bad. We did have a severe T-storm, but thankfully no tornadoes. Still scary nonetheless. My now deceased husband Doug (whose name is on this TH-cam channel) was born 8 days later on April 19, 1965. (Jan Griffiths).

I wonder if this was the same system that produced tornadoes in Minneapolis? There is about 3-4 hours coverage from WCCO on the internet. It’s an intense listen.

Last guy.... Sad 1965. Looters. People helped themselves to other people's stuff bac then already. Can only guess.where they came from🙄

There were looters in the aftermath of the Flint-Beecher MI F5 tornado as well, so this stuff has happened long before 1965. I don't get it how some people want to add to the misery of others. It's disgusting. (Jan Griffiths).
