CLC knee pads eh? Liked their open 10ish x 16ish open tool bags with shoulder strap enough that after 18-20 years of use I replaced it with the same tool bag (same bag with a couple changes they made). Still fits in my locker at end of day, tools right where I want them (unless someone else moves them, then they "lost" "forever"). The guys in the shop know how to "throw me off." CLC, good stuff even though mine isn't leather.

I'm curious about some things. Does 8010 weld up like 6010? Fast freeze and with iron powder in the flux? 6010 was always the go to rod for root passes for open root welds. I noticed that you're welding down hand. I guess that would help you lay down a smoother bead and with that big of rod (5/32) that would help you lay down a lot of bead with one pass. As well as everything seems to be fit up (nice work) that very likely helps too. Also you're welding on clean pipe so that's helpful too - keeps contamination down. You also don't have to have the welds inspected like you would on pipeline welding.
I also liked to run a number 10 gold lens. The only thing is that the gold could scratch very easily so you had to be really careful when you cleaned the lense so that you wouldn't scratch the gold. Even small scratches could let light in and burn your eyes.
Did I hit on anything right or did I just blow it all out my ass?

I’m currently 17 and thinking about becoming a welder. My mom wants me to get a 2 year welding degree but I don’t know if it’s worth it. Did you go to college or did you just start welding.

This might be stupid but when your done welding if you leave the slag on bead will that offer any protection from elements??

Maybe for a short time, it won't last with the expansion and contraction in the heat of the sun. What you risk is losing paint if you paint over the slag. Like bark on wood, if it's getting painted it yad best come off first!

How do you find the angles on a dead man brace. Like the down from a H-post to the ground??
