I’m not keen on anyone other than Sonic & Shadow having the homing attack personally but it just seems weird that they’d give Amy & Knuckles one but not Tails.
They should add the metal hook that tails used in Sonic Battle

My personal problem with Tails, Amy, Knuckles(Kinda) is that they don't perform that well in fighting enemies. I feel like they should made more combo moves for them to make them feel more replayable.
For Tails, the wrench throwing feels weak.
For Amy, she would've had more with her hammer.
For Knuckles, he just needs more combos.
But, that's just me.

This update could be considered a whole new game with the amount of replayable content in it. Also crazy they balanced the game and made it hard so people can go in with above level 1 stats and not wreck everything like base game. Platforming was difficult but very fair and fun and rewarding to do. This is also easily the best versions of amy knuckles and tails we ever got for playing them. I love how much diversity the characters brought to the table with how you play and platform in the game. Tails is also a walking cheat but the flying feels so smooth and fun where i don't think super sonic would have felt that way given how hard turning can be in titan fights.
It kind of is a completely new game
If you can dodge tails' wrenches you can dodge a ball 😂. But yeah maybe sonic superstars will be better in months too.

At the very least he needs his own arc whether that's in his own game or in the next Sonic one. Thankfully this game set up one for him and now with the dlc they have new playable Tails assets to draw from. So they literally could not have a better way forward with him than right now.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I wish they took some inspiration from rise of lyric for his combat move set. In that game he could throw projectiles at his enemies and he could set up three drones to keep his enemies busy. It helps showcase his intelligence, since he’s smart enough to build robots to help him, while making the combat a bit more fun and making up for the fact that he can’t hit all that hard
It would've been cool if he could throw bombs like dummy rings. A few physical attacks would've been welcome too, stuff like a tail whip would show that he's a genius with his tools but is also not defenseless without them
Uhh.. I have mix feelings with this gameplay that I'm looking at in this video. Like the fact that Tails' combat is just throwing ranches at enemies. There is also the laser move with the cyclone that everyone here calls (i see what they did there. *Cy*clone, kinda like *cy*ber and *cy*loop.) as well as the ringin' mega buster from Battle. But i think they could've done more with that. Like have Tails in the cyclone move around while firing the laser, and do combos with mega buster (sorry I don't know what it's called) like inflicting big damage when enemy defense is out, immobilize them, weaken them, increase its damage after throwing ranches, inflict elemental reaction like in Sonic Momentum, or whatever. I also think that Tails' gameplay should be more flying oriented than what I see in this video. Like the parry skill, tails should be launched high in the air to gain the height advantage and gain control over the battlefield by dropping a bunch of strong range attacks and ending that with the drill, instead of having him slow down time like Sonic. We also need some new flying enemies that fixes the high ground cheesing. I should also suggest having ring arsenals like 06 and sky patrol, but by using the ones from your health system so that they deal more damage and haxes. Though that would mean that you won't be able to use the cyclone for as much as you want.
So uh.. yeah those are ah. The things that I think they should've offered. My suggestions. In which i made long before this update was released. I am still okay with we got. (I just have mix feelings with this, that's all.)

Oh I love talking about this stuff. I basically imagined that, if they make a sort of frontiers 2 and all 4 characters are actually decent at combat, but have weaknesses, I'd do it where sonic is a mobility based fighter (No parry, but if he dodges with good timing, then it causes the slowdown effect, and it lasts longer than with other characters as well), and he mostly wants to keep his distance and evade until his enemy is vulnerable, then homing attack and combo it. No projectiles and few heavy hits though
Knux could also be a CQC character, but unlike sonic, with no homing attack or dodge (but with a parry, though you actually need some semblance of timing to get the slowdown and defense down effect), knuckles basically wants to just wail on the enemy and learn patters so he can land really slow but heavy hits, or parry and get defense down, coupled with the slowdown that basically gives him a free heavy. With no projectiles or homing attack, he kinda just has to brute force his way in, but he can dispatch of enemies in seconds if you learn how to
Tails could be the main projectile character, and like sonic, have a dodge (but with attack down in exchange for less slowdown than Sonic's, which also puts him into the air), and maybe he can drop AOEs downwards so there's reason to be up there. His whole thing is getting away and staying away, as his CQC sucks
I like the idea of Amy being a combination of all 3. Using tarot cards as projectiles like tails' wrenches, her hammer for most of her combo attacks, and she can use magic to make her hammer harder to swing, but bigger and stronger for heavy attacks. Also a parry, like knux, but the poison effect could be moved to a "phantom rush" equivalent, while her parry effect makes her invisible (somewhat visible to the player, probably just with a pink glow, but enemies only react to the direction an attack came from, though they can't track where Amy is actually going). So sort of a mix of projectile combat like tails, combos like sonic, and heavies/parries like knux, but she's not as great at any of those playstyles as the respective characters, since she's an all-rounder
Just some ideas I'd think would be cool for gameplay
They need to continue with this gameplay and evolve it!

In general talis is the most difficult to use in combat, the wrenches do no damage at all, the spinning wrenches attack only hits a couple of times and disappears, and the Lazer beam tornado is too slow for how fast the enemies are

Tails didn't have a homing attack in Adventure 1, but at the same time his levels didn't really required him to have it. In frontiers there are situations where, while not absolutely mandatory, would be of great help for him to have it. Also...wrench tossing? Really? That's the best they could come up with for his standard attack? What was wrong with his tail attack? Hell, if you wanted him to have a ranged normal attack they could've given him an energy gun, kinda like the one he had in Sonic Battle for the GBA but change it to be more like Megaman's mega buster.

Tbh it just feels like Sega hates Tails at this point,.. like NO MELEE ATTACKS EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD MATERIAL FROM SONIC BATTLE LIKE TAILS IS CAPABLE OF THROWING BARE HANDS AT ENEMIES WHY ARE THEY DOUBLING DOWN ON THAT "TECH GUY CAN'T BE PHYSICALLY COMPETENT CRAP". And if it's because he's a child....SOOOO???? Most of the Sonic cast are pretty young as is and by now he has to be at least 12 going on 13. Not to mention he has been following Sonic FOR YEARS on dangerous adventures and it's been shown that Sonic has been training the little guy in combat and speed which....DUH. I'm sorry I just had to let that out it's just Tails is my favourite character and this DLC dissapointed me in so many ways and despite the praise its getting....SEGA needs to do better.
I wish the homing attack, dropdash, and boost were kept for Sonic to make him more unique, but whatever. What I mean is that they all should have completely different movesets. Amazing Update Nonetheless.
What are you talking about? Don’t you mean to say to make those moves exclusive and unique to Sonic? I don’t see how that would all work, specifically with the boost. You wouldn’t be able to explore the island as quick as you’d like with Tails, Amy and Knuckles if they didn’t have it, and they have skills that are technically upgrades for the boost, one of which is pretty much game-breaking and OP, and the drop-dash (mapped to the jump button) is already exclusive to Sonic while the other three characters instead get abilities that grants them more air time (also mapped to the jump button). The homing attack, on the other hand, I suppose they could do without, but I’ll leave that up to anyone to decide that.
The other characters deserve to be fun and functional too. Sonic has had plenty of time to shine, and while I adore him, it’s not ok to give other characters the shaft. I don’t want them to be complete moveset clones of him, and they aren’t, and the other moves were probably kept to ensure the platforming was still viable.

From what I heard, yes because the bosses will take nearly an hour to beat at that level.

Some of Tails's moveset is what I've been hoping to see from him for a long ass time now, he as the potential to be the Tony Stark of the sonic universe and I'm very happy to see early signs Sega may finally get that.The second sonic movie likely helped with that alot too. His greatest weapon is his mind and I want that to be displayed for him the most.

IKRRRR????? Its like they forgot his name was TAILS. All he needed was a basic tail-slashing combo (probably with some punches in there like Sonic Battle) and a tornado tailspin as a basic combo as well as his FREAKING MEGA BUSTER. Like when are they gonna bring that back in its full glory? Basically Tails uses his tools and machines to ENHANCE his battle style not to be it. Tails is way more than his gadgets and his gameplay should reflect that instead of making him throw wrenches, like WHAT were they thinking??? Like does SEGA hate Tails or smth.
(Sorry if I'm a bit aggressive, its just the way he's treated in this game annoys me and I wish more people would see that my boi deserves better)

Did you realize that you can do the tax evasion glitch in sonic frontiers like the boom games? It is only possible with knuckles. You need the combo attach and parry to perform this trick, do the combo and parry, repeat this process and very slowly you will gain height.
Tails can do it way easier. Do your normal fly, throw a charged wrench attack, bounce off the wrenches, rinse and repeat.
...or just use the Cyclone.
How do you switch between characters?
You have to beat the update up to where you do the Master King's trial.
You have to beat master kings koco trial then if u talk to him again he will tell you swap characters proceed to the final battle or replay trial
I love his gameplay once he's maxed... but the fact that he can't attack at the start at all other than jumping which you're never gonna hit little lone beat anything with that alone

Honestly when. I was finished with tails and switched to sonic to go do the red room trials I wished I was with tails as I just unlocked the sa2 tornado and I wanted to mess around with it more but I got the emerald I needed to move on to sonic

Somehow Sonic struggles to destroy the minibosses in the DLC Island, yet Tails can basically disassemble EVERYTHING by throwing a couple wrenches at em

Odd that he throws wrenches as a basic attack. I assumed that big yellow gun he shows in the idle animation was an arm cannon. Why didn't he just use that to shoot?

So, Tails. He’s fun to play, don’t get me wrong. Especially the Cyclone coming back. But those wrenches. I can make do with the wrenches being his homing attack substitute, but one of his Only attacks? A little disappointing, especially after Sonic’s FANTASTIC combat in the base game. You can keep the wrenches, but give him Some kind of melee attack to compensate
(Kinda summarizes my thoughts on all these new guys. Get rid of the movement delays(stopping in place for Amy and Tails’ upgraded boosts, and Knuckles’ turning when he’s gliding), and give them some more attacks, and they’d be Solid. Still gold, and I ain’t gonna be too harsh since this is Free DLC, but Platinum is waiting there to be mined for the next game)

Ikr???? Its like the developers lacked the knowledge to design these character moveset because off the top of my head there are so many ways they could have made Tails' combat fun but they just didn't. Don't even start me on that tarot card BS with Amy.
