Well we changed key in the final chorus but so should you! Please make some reaction video where you say what we do is shit. Do it for you, you will instantly gain a lot of credibility!
The only way to say about you that you are shit and don't lie is if you would make a song about shit and make a video when you play it standing on literal shit mountain dressed in shit costumes. Singing chorus 'we are the shit'.
In an interview the guitar player said that they are planning,at some point in the future,to release an only featuring album,in which every single song will be sang by the singer of the band that they are parodying in that song...Wouldn't it be incredible?
On the topic of a Sabaton History video for this, I think it would be funnier if, instead of Joakim or Par, it is one of the guys from Nanowar sitting with Indy to talk about the history and the song.
You gotta give credit to Joakim and Sabaton though. Most bands would easily distance themselves from covers and particularly parodies, especially more 'negative' ones. Sabaton on the other hand get stuck right in to all of that, delving head-first in to cooperation. It's honestly really great to see a band who can take a joke and even get involved, instead of ignore or bitch about it.
My favorite part is: -dribbles and shoots the dude in front of him -"I DID NOT TOUCH HIM" -gets a yellow card I laughed so freaking hard I had to pause the video. The reference to Castel Saint Angelo also had me giggling. As well as the very end with the key change and force ghosts.
This song proves to me what can be accomplished with real dedication to detail. When Herman Li of Dragonforce made the "writing a Sabaton song in 10 minutes" video and it sounded almost more like Alestorm, I was laughing my ass off, but they really only captured the "war" element. This. This is what it is to truly write a Sabaton song from the perspective of another band! 12/10, beyond perfection.
Oh God, I checked it out after your comment and I absolutely lost my shit. Trying to write sabaton song and ending up with alestorm is just so dumb and hilarious.
I feel like I need to explain a couple jokes: The one that sings the first verse, named "Maurizio Kyiv", is a spoof of the legendary Maurizio Mosca, that was a sport journalist and the one doing the field-side commentary during USA '94. His last name, Mosca, in english would be translated as "fly", as the insect, but in italian Mosca is also the name of the city Moscow. Since we all know what's happening involving Moscow, they changed the name to Kyiv, to point out their view I think. The "Immortal" after Joakim's line on Baresi is probably a reference to what Baresi actually accomplished: it was his first game of the World Cup, despite being probably the best sweeper in history, that's because only 23 days before that game he sustained an injury to the meniscus, that normally would put a player out of action for at least a couple months. The announcer is Bruno Pizzul, entire generations watched soccer in Italy hearing his voice. The "divine ponytail", it was, and still is, the nickname of Roberto Baggio, a player that is considered one of the best players in history. He was so famous and admired a lot of people had a ponytail like him (yeah, me included).
I will add a couple more: - the ball they use is not the same but a very similar one to the one used in 1994. The ball is a Adidas Tango/Tango Espanha, which might be a reference to 1982 World Cup won by Italy... or maybe just a easier to find ball :D - All the names at the beginning are puns on band members stage names: a aside the mentioned Maurizio Kyiv, the only one a bit tricky is Aladino Baggio, a mix of Dino Baggio (real midfielder in that game) and Aladino (italian for Aladdin), a pun on the guitarist stage name. - the tombstone at the end is in the shape of Ciao mascotte of 1990 Italy hosted Fifa World Cup (and another sad story for Italians) - this may be obvious, but while the in Italy we like jumbo screens for these kind of games, AFAIR there was no screen on Castel Sant'Angelo, this is just a pun on Sabaton's The Last Stand
A bit of extra context for the video: Baggio was extremely popular and beloved by EVERYONE in Italy at the time, and penalties were his specialty. When he missed the last one, it was unexpected and he went from beloved popular hero to scapegoat in the blink of an eye (at the time, both Italy and Brasile had 2 world cup titles so the rivalry was strong during this final game). For a lot of Italian football fans at the time, it was indeed a shocking loss and people are still lamenting it today.
They both had 3 world cups. The rivalry was big though. In 1970 Brasil won their third title against Italy in Mexico few days after the famous Game of the Century (Italy-Germany 4-3), while in 1982 Italy won their third title against Germany after beating the legendary Brasil of Socrates, Falcao and Zico and still today brazilians consider that game one of the big three "football tragedies" of Brazil together with 1950 Maracanazo and the most recent 2014 Mineirazo. Unfortunately that rivalry now is weaker since Italy and Brazil after 1994 didn't play against each other in world cup games anymore.
Both had 3 world cup title, Brazil won its 4th that afternoon ergo Tetra like they are shouting. Italy had won 2 titles in the '30s and one in 1982, at the time.
You're not wrong about the Italian PTSD, I showed my dad the video thinking we could laugh about how Sabaton it is, and all I got was a rant about how terrible Baggio was XD
I think USA '94 is one of my earliest sport memories. I do remember the general disappointment at him. But in all fairness I think it was because he massively carried us through the whole bracket stage, if not for him we would have likely left at the round of 16
Look the player's names: Giangatto Baresi = Franco Baresi; Roberto Baffo = Roberto Baggio; Iunonadoni = Roberto Donadoni; Aladino Baggio = Dino Baggio. It's a joking with the football player's names of the Italy team in 1994. At the finish the head in the sky is of Bruno Pizzul (a famous italian radio commentator) that commented the match in 1994 for italian people. We ask the original broadcast of 1994. I keep coming back and rewatching this video cause the song itself keeps getting stuck in my head and your reaction to it is so close to my own with how amusing the song is.
I have an italian friend (a Sabaton fan) that is not VERY good at english at all. He realized it wasn't a real Sabaton Song when he heard the Italian commentator part (yes it is the original one from Bruno Pizzul) and was left in total shock. Tbf, excluding that and the lyrics this IS a Sabaton song.
I loooved this one! It soooo Sabatonlike! And so hilarious! I was watching it and laughing my head off for 40 minutes. And as a Mediterranean born in the 80s I know exactly why they would choose such an event presented in such a way. It makes total sense! Nice one man! 🌷
Nanowar of steel have this big gift: they’re like lizards kings, they can be anything! If you listen to “The quest for Carrefour” it’s pretty the same to listen to Blind Guardian. Awesome!
They made a song parodying Italian POP band Negroamaro (it's a type of wine from where the band comes from) and you pretty much cannot tell it isn't a song by Negroamaro if you don't pay attention to the lyrics They're mfing chameleons

I watched it so many times now, and I have always a big smile on my face 😄I love both bands and this song combines both ways of making music just perfect,
hearing Joakim singing about Roberto Baggio makes me laugh so hard (Baggio was famous for his huge talent and for his ponytail that you see in mr Baffo purple wig, Baggio was called in italian the "divin codino" divine ponytail) , also the (original) italian commentator of the penalty is Bruno Pizzul very famous in italy for his peculiar voice and he was the official commentator of the national for twnety/thirty years
I noticed someone likening Nanowar to Weird Al for the common brilliance in making parody songs, and now I can't unsee it anymore as well. Might as well start to refer to their music as to "Yankovic But Metal". 😆
This song it's too Great! Maybe, and I repeat "maybe" , we can't consider IT as a parody, but as a huge tribute to Sabaton made by Nanowar. Could be funny and interesting, also a hard work, to breakdown the entire song to discover every reference to the Sabaton's songs (I've noticed: Last Stand, Bismarck, Cliffs of Gallipoli, Shiroyama, and at least other 2 that i can't remember the exact titles).
Ah, I love this song so much! Hilarious, glorious, over the top and with Joakim no less! Those three sounds, spitting in gloves, pulling the pistol slide back and kicking the ball before the song proper begins is such a nice thing. Dunno why, but I really like that bit.
It's an incredible epic comedy song, dude! As millions of italians, I lived that day as a nightmare. It was really fool to play a final match in hell (37 degrees as Joachim sings), especially for us, while brazilians were more used to those temperatures. That's why some players kicked so bad the f*cking penalties, such a pity! Yesterday I listened to the new album, it's a masterpiece 🤘🇮🇹😎
You can feel the pain and anguish in their singing, almost 30 years after such a traumatic event. And deciding a championship on penalty shots has to rank up there with the stupidest decisions ever made.
These guys are the Weird Al of metal: they can mimic any band's sound flawlessly, and are masters of comedy. This song is (at least, lyrical wise) a parody of The Last Stand, though it borrows from other songs, too. And I think I read somewhere that they do intend on doing a Sabaton History for this song, though I'm not sure if this is true. I'd love to see it, regardless.
I was 12 at that time and this was the greatest period for my country's football team. We got 4th place but at the end I was very happy that Brazil won over Italy.
This song is a masterwork in parody... self-parody on Sabaton's side of course. The album itself is a kind of hit and miss, everything video-released till now is great.
Brazillian here: I just realized this is a song about Brazil's 4th FIFA World Cup victory???? (I was born in 1998, sorry) Also I laughed so hard when Joakim said Romario, Bebeto and Taffarel's names, this is one of his best features until now 🤘
Yeah Dude. The commentary during the solo of guitar is the original voice from Bruno Pizzul, historical commentator for Italy national team. Those in the video were the words after the wrong penalty from Baggio.
One of the most famous photo from that final is called "The man who died standing": It's Baggio standing after the missed penalty, a lot of people (even himself) blamed him a lot but here in Italy, if you love football, you love Baggio, the guy was THE football player
Nanowar needs to do a full album of Sabaton-style tracks detailing the most mundane history in epic fashion. Joakim allegedly once wrote a track from their first album - Metal Machine, supposedly a song made entirely out of titles to other metal songs, as a dare - while taking a shit. Nanowar could make that a damn saga.
i just wanna add that out of curiosity i went to the official fifa youtube to watch this shootout and all i saw was people quoting this song, i bet someone managing that page is probably thinking right now "wtf are all these people saying ?"
If you are still doing Sabaton Saturdays, you should check band called Sabadu. It is another parody band that is more over the top sabaton than sabaton itself
LOL I vaguely remember the 94 world cup, the kicking over the net was a "Baggio". Also, I love how this sounds like a sabaton video about WWI but it's soccer.

Nanowar of Steel are kind of like the Lonely Island of metal now I'm thinking about it.
This is everything I was hoping it would be and then some.
This song is a masterwork in parody... self-parody on Sabaton's side of course. The album itself is a kind of hit and miss, everything video-released till now is great.
Was waiting for you Tank to react to this.. thanks..
So good! I've laughed out loud every time I've watched it. I would love it if Sabaton at least referenced it when I see them next month!
Brazillian here: I just realized this is a song about Brazil's 4th FIFA World Cup victory???? (I was born in 1998, sorry) Also I laughed so hard when Joakim said Romario, Bebeto and Taffarel's names, this is one of his best features until now 🤘
Nanowar of Sabaton....Sabaton of Steel....loving it :)
For us Swedes ( ref Joakim) 1994 was the best World cup in modern times with a 3rd place.
Watching Nanowar of Steel and Tank reaction to Nanowar of Steel is just so wholesome. Just some good, light-hearted entertainment.
this would just be perfect for an april fools vid on sabaton history!
It absolutely needs to happen.
Im going to the sabaton concert in oslo 30th of april, so ill tell you all if they do end up playing this song
Please PLEASE do
Yeah, i remember the commentary of this game by the couple Pizzul - Broden.
i just wanna add that out of curiosity i went to the official fifa youtube to watch this shootout and all i saw was people quoting this song, i bet someone managing that page is probably thinking right now "wtf are all these people saying ?"
Amazing reaction to such a glorious song :). As for the parody, I am pretty sure it comes from Last Stand, we even got our Castle San Angelo :)
i hope sabaton do a live show where nanowar comes on the stage for this song
If you are still doing Sabaton Saturdays, you should check band called Sabadu. It is another parody band that is more over the top sabaton than sabaton itself
BTW Taffarel was the goal keeper of my team in Brazil (Internacional) and he was so good !! Today he teach other players
Funnily enough, this song helped me figure out how seriously I should take Sabaton in general.
I'm waiting for a Pasadena 1994 episode in Sabaton History!
The best parody songs are when everyone takes it dead seriously. It makes it so much funnier.
New subgenre unlocked: Sport Metal
you really need to check Nanowar "The quest for Carrefour", they NAILED Hansi Kursch
this song gave me ptsd...
LOL I vaguely remember the 94 world cup, the kicking over the net was a "Baggio". Also, I love how this sounds like a sabaton video about WWI but it's soccer.
Right when I heard this song I knew this reaction was coming! This is the most accurate Sabaton meme in the history of Sabaton memes.
This isn't a meme. It's a song.
@@grabble7605 You might want to ask about that from the Sabaton meme group..
Roberto Baggio is one of the greatest players, he was a God for Italians… but now everyone remembers only this awful penalty…
Ha yes! As I commented on the original video, they managed to out-Sabaton Sabaton
There is one sincere, serious song on the new album. This is that song.
And the new album is SO good.
