      I have a Lenovo Legion Laptop with 4080 but you would know that if you read your emails....... I have a few gaming rigs, two with 4090's (one is for Sim Racing) and others with 3090ti downwards. A reply or even an acknowledgement of my email would have been nice!

    The 4070 is NOT the sweet spot. It basically performs on par with a 3070ti laptop. It needs DLSS3 just to show any meaningful performance improvements. People should buy heavily discounted last-gen laptops or wait until a 4080 laptop drops in price. That bit of advice on this advertisement is not the best.

      Imo, 4050, 4060 and 4080 are the only good laptop gpus among the 40 series laptops. Though the 4080 holds the crown followed by the 4060 and lastly the 4050. Otherwise, 4090 is a terrible value due to how outrageously expensive it is coming from the 4080 while being slightly better than the 4080.

    • @ZybYt
      @ZybYt ปีที่แล้ว +40

      But the 4070 is by far the worst especially when it is compared to the 4060 which has the same amount of VRAM but performs slightly worse while being far cheaper.

    I ordered a Triton 17X for $3400 USD! Great deal I'm so happy, can't wait till I get it.
    This video is the only one up with benchmarks on the Triton 17X. Interesting that it's well ahead of the Pred 16 in CPU benchmarks despite having the same CPU. Result of better cooling?

    • @SuperFalsehope
      @SuperFalsehope ปีที่แล้ว

      Yo! How's the 17X going?

    • @solomonhilliard5357
      @solomonhilliard5357 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SuperFalsehope It's performed well as a gaming laptop, plays all titles I've thrown at it. A cooling pad is a very wise investment for the 17x as it gets quite hot, w/o cooling pad GPU topped out at 150 watts, with one it hits 175. If you're thinking of using it as a work laptop, some features are missing.
      While the motherboard has TPM it does not have "Modern Standby" aka S3 so it's ineligible for Bitlocker. Acer installed Win 11 Home instead of Pro which may cause issues with some VPN software. Oddly the motherboard does not support raid even though it has a 2nd Nvme slot.
      The 17X is heavy and the charging brick is huge, I'm working on getting a smaller one for travel. No major regrets but I am interested in the new Lenovo Legion 9i with closed loop although it will probably be at least $1200 more than the 17X. I'm curious if it's any quieter than the 17X which is not that loud, my cooling pad on full blast drowns out the 17X.

    I was thinking about a high-end laptop since my pc is over 5 years old. However, if I replaced only my desktop GPU with a RTX 4080, it will probably still outperform the highest end RTX 4090 laptop (as that GPU is basically an underclocked desktop RTX 4080). Also, I don't think you should enable frame generation in your base benchmarks since it can be argued that those are "fake" frames.

    • @hoven-lh8wq
      @hoven-lh8wq ปีที่แล้ว

      what do you mean by fake friends? how does frame generation work?

    • @siyzerix
      @siyzerix ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, consider this. The 2020 asus rog gl703x had a 200w rtx 2080 super in it which basically matched a desktop 2080 super.
      The new alienware m18 has a 175w ''rtx 4090'' that struggles to be within 10% of a desktop 4080. So we get less TDP in a laptop thats supposed to have better cooling. Even liquid cooled laptops don't get higher than 175w on the ''4090''. So either nvidia and oem's are admitting they're so incompetent they have to go backwards on wattage despite better cooling, OR they're admitting they're incapable of making higher wattage mobile GPU's, which begs the question, why did the high end laptop GPU's not get increased TDP, while the low end laptop gpu's did.
      Honestly, until nvidia or oem's clarify this BS, I'm inclined to believe its greed. Maybe incompetence too.
      If you're lookin' at 4080 levels of performance, don't go laptop. If you want 3060ti to 3070 levels, just get the $970 nitro 5 with the mobile 3070ti.

      If you cap the frame rate and use a stand it’ll be fine, especially the 4060/4070 because they’re only 100w anyway. Still nothing like as quiet as a desktop or console, but avoids max fans and the power is still used to maintain the minimum frame rate when needed.
      I wonder how well noise cancelling headphones will work, but I use a TV and soundbar.

      @Thetechchap Why did you happen to do all your benchmarks with frame gen enabled then? This video seems like just one extremely obese ad with no substance (seeing the raw performance of the laptops in games) to it. For a video guiding people on which gpu they should buy, I would have rather had you benchmark with frame generation and without frame generation. This would supply useful information to people like me who want to see the raw performance of the laptops and their gpus while also providing better marketing for NVidia by showing people the huge difference between playing games with and without frame generation, steering people toward NVidia's gpus as they see the big gains. I think this would be a good compromise, and might be even better for bringing people to NVidia's products as was their whole goal in sponsoring this video. It could also be misleading to sheep buyers that you don't mention the fidelity hit that frame generation often inflicts. I appreciate you turning my eyes to the Acer Predator Helios 16, and I will be looking more into it. However, you may be losing potential buyers who are like me by not showing those raw performance benchmarks. Thank you for helping me a little at least.

Average price per frame and maybe even (this might be too complex), a graph of average price per frame at different wattages. These would be a heck of a lot more useful for the purpose of what your video is titled.

      So the rtx 4070 will still be a good 20-25% faster than the rx7700S. And the same will apply to the rtx 3070ti mobile which is $970 to $1000 on newegg.
      These new laptop gpu's are pathetically priced, bring pathetic performance improvements and rely too much on software tricks to justify their hiked prices.
      Last time nvidia got a massive node shrink compared to previous generation, was with pascal. And the 1060 doubled the 960m's performance and trippled its vram. The 4060 struggles to justify its performance lead over the 3060 and barely has enough vram.

    Honestly at the price of that 4050 I literally bought a 3070ti
    Hell I bought a Nitro 5 with a 3070ti.
    It's performance blows even the 4060 out of the water and is very favourably comparable to the 4070 unless you're looking at the few games that have frame gen.
    If Nitro 5 with a 3070ti is available in your region and it's well priced and cheaper than the 4050, buy that instead. Because that was the case in my country.
    And it's easily the most bang for buck purchase ever.

    or the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 with i9-12900H and RTX 3080TI for 280'000yen (= 1,970 USD), 1050 USD discounted.
    I'm not TOO familiar with gaming Laptops to be honest. And these 200 bucks difference in price don't really matter to me if I can get a better Laptop which is more "future-proof".
    Although I'm not sure if the 3080TI is actually better than the 4060. I believe it is, but the CPU is definitely better on the cheaper (and newer) laptop.
    Any advice would be highly appreciated!
    btw, I don't mind getting another brand either. These are just the two I found in Japan (official website) which seem to be quite good laptops for the price. They're both discounted.

      Don't waste your time with these laptops. Get a asus rog strix g15 with a 150w rtx 3070ti and 6800h. Its 200k yen on amazon. The 3070ti = 4070 in performance and jarrod showed the 4070 being ~15 to 20% faster than the 4060. Infact, the 3080ti is barely faster than the 3070ti, at best, 10% faster.
      You can use the 50k yen to upgrade to 32gb of ram and get yourself a nice 2tb or 4tb nvme ssd for storing tons of games. That rog strix g15 should have a 90whr battery and even with its 165hz QHD panel, it should get roughly 6-7 hours of battery life with power saver and screen at 60hz.
      Trust me, the 3070ti is the sweetspot right now. Its as fast as the 4070, just doesn't have frame generation. So use this and then wait till rtx 5000 or rtx 6000 for a proper upgrade.

      @@batmanonholiday4477 Slow read/write. Yes, I'll use 2X ext HDDs for rendered data backups in the end, but the computer needs to constantly grab large amounts of data live. As for external SSDs: 8TB internal is 7000/6000 R/W and costs just under $1k (and I could pay less for pretty high speeds still), whereas the fastest 8TB external is $1400k and manages about 2000/2000. Yes, I can work with 2000/2000 but I'd rather not pay extra for less. (Yes, I could get a Thunderbolt m.2 enclosure and put an m.2 in it, but we'll get to that.)
      On top of that, I already have to travel with a lot of external things: music controllers, a pen display, some backup storage. Ports are limited, so it's nice to cut down on that as much as possible, and to keep down desk clutter. It would be a really strange choice to spend that much on a laptop and then be forced to add to that clutter rather than reduce it. At best, my options would be to increase clutter and pay $100 or so extra per additional m.2 enclosure(s). Luckily I don't have to, because laptops exist with capacity for up to 10-12TB and a RAM capacity double that of this Triton. It's a great gaming machine, as long as you don't have any heavy creative applications in mind.

      @@thenoobgamer95yeah, specific use case varies. He can buy more storage but it'll cost a lot more.

    Sorry I have to unlike, benchmarks with DLSS are already a bit janky but DLSS quality has become quite good, but Frame Gen is still not ready (artifacts and glitches) and doesn't yet qualify as a mature enough tech to be used as a real estimation of a GPU performance.
    That's my opinion anyway.

    5:52 ok now I'm sure that I cannot trust with you on laptop reviews.
    4070 laptops are one of the best and worst deals you can get. they are not that much different than a 3070 laptop but cost more in most markets.
    they run eay cooler though, why? because nvidia is kneecapping it and youre not mentioning about it.
    4080 is the best one if you have money. its really efficient yet costs less thanlast years 3080 models.
    4070 is a risky bet; combine it with 13980 its too expensive. use it with 1080p display its a bad deal.
    any model with 4070 HAS to offer a 2k display and intel13700 if its to be considered as the sweet spot.
