    I love this movie so much, I watch it at least once a year and it never gets boring. It's fun, it's corny, it has medieval stuff, it has witches, demons, magic nonsense and most importantly... It has Nicolas Cage. What more could you ask for?
    The fact that it's so serious, dramatic and funny at the same time tickles me in just the right spot and makes me feel special. I'm not sure if the creators intended it to be the way it is but I wouldn't want it any other way.
    If you're reading this, may Nicolas Cage smile upon your soul.

    Season of the Witch has one of my favorite lines because Nicolas Cage tells the heads of the church, very seriously, "I serve the Church no more." (19:50) Then they get thrown in prison (because obviously) and then Ron Perlman says, "I sErVe ThE cHuRcH nO mOrE" very mockingly (21:12 but they talk over the line so you can't hear it) and I legit can't tell if he's in-character mocking Nicolas Cage's character's statement that got them thrown in prison, or if he's Ron Perlman the actor mocking Nicolas Cage the actor's overly dramatic line delivery.

    Just one line from the priest explaining that demons need be exorcised or have their host's body killed in order to leave the possessed body would serve to improve the plot a little bit. This would be a neat bit of worldbuilding because it would suggest there is some downsides for a demon to possess a body; they can't just come and go willy nilly. It would explain why it doesn't just fly to the church itself from the start.

    Love the war arc, love the team, love Shad completely freaking out.

  • @kylefrank638

    I can definitely say this movie surprised me. Not always positively, but sometimes! I was rolling my eyes at the crusades just being fun banter time right at the start, but then, actually having it be that Sir Nic and Sir Ron have a crisis of faith? Definitely wasn't expecting the movie to bother with something like that. OR, even more surprising to me was the death of the unscrupulous guide actually causing a moral outrage from Nic. I think in most any other movie like this, the guide would've just been written off as the ass that doesn't deserve a second thought once he's ripped apart, and it'd be as simple as "he suggested they kill the girl so he's the bad guy". But this script actually has our protagonist upset at the death, because the guide was only in the perilous situation because of the knights! And the guide just wanted to live, so of course he suggested they kill the obviously manipulative "witch".
    Definitely still not what I'd call a "smart" story. Prime example to me is, the explanation for the demon killing who it kills. It's bizarre. They try to address the whole "it could've escaped at any time" thing, by saying "well it killed the captain guy because he wanted to free it, and it killed the guide because he wanted to kill it", and this leads them to conclude that "aha! It *wanted* to be brought to Severac all along!" ... but, it could've just gone there all by itself. Like before it was even imprisoned by the cardinal...
    And it also didn't take the book from the priest when it first melts out of the carriage. Even though we soon learn it explicitly wants the book. I don't know, did the little bit of holy water really deter it so much as to full-retreat for the final showdown?

    • @Beuwen_The_Dragon
      @Beuwen_The_Dragon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am definitely thinking that the daemon knew *about* Severac, just not *where* it was. And it did not simply want to destroy the one book, but all of it's copies too.

      Actually, given the quality of Shad's mic, plus Rag'sssss and Metal's icons I bet this was recorded in early 2022 at the very latest. Several jokes are still referencing COVID like it was recent and it was well understood when they were recording these that it would be years before they came out. Plus plus, this was before the advent of Fringy, so it's pre-EFAP 133.

      @@_Dovar_ that is true, but as the trailer said these were recorded "before the advent of Fringy", i.e. before Fringy became a co-host. His first appearance was like EFAP 4 or 5 I think so he's been around a while, and the Nough meme as well as him changing his Fringy character to a plague doctor was pretty early too.
