It promises you entertainment, it delivers on the promise. There's no other pretentions, the film maker isn't trying to win awards or score brownie points on social media. It's just fun. we need a lot more movies like this these days

You know when mauler said "army of the dead" was one of the worst movies he seen I thought he was referring to this film. That take was almost a deal breaker for me. Thank God it was a different movie.
I played through the castle defense iPad game as a kid way before seeing the movie, and when I heard it it was a movie!!! I watched it, loved it, and all the sound effects and voice lines from the game were taken from the film so that felt neat, and I didn’t know this was technically a third film, so I watched this then went back to watch evil dead 1 and 2 haha
Ash is one of the all-time great movie characters. I love how he's completely incompetent at everything he does, from working retail to wooing women. But the one thing he's good at is fighting demons, and he just happens, whether through luck or skill, to be absolutely exceptional at it.
I saw this on opening night. I had just gotten my driver's license and was driving my parents van, so a bunch of buddies from school piled in and we headed up to the theater. The place was packed and the crowd just loved every bit of this movie. Cheering, hootin' and hollerin' at all the classic lines that we were hearing for the first time. (We were in Michigan so the "boomstick" part brought down the house)

There are at least two direct Army of Darkness movie references in LOTR, specifically someone holding something explosive near a candle and being stopped from getting it too close. Peter Jackson knows what's up.

RedLetterMedia did a fantastic commentary about this flim on their Bandcamp and I believe Rich Evans offered the glorious explanation for Ash's sudden competence with horses and adventuring by saying that when it comes to everyday life, Ash is a total buffoon, but when it comes to killin' Deadites ... hail to the king, baby. that's my canon.
The voicelines in that game are god tier I miss good old Total War games, Shotgun and especially the FoTS DLC gave me hope for a WW1 or another Empire game
1st movie = Straight up HORROR 2nd movie = Campy horror 3rd movie = Comedy horror All three have their own charm and tones and I've enjoyed them for decades.
The third film is comedy fantasy. It's a stretch to call it horror. It's like those budget fantasy films from the 80s like Hawk the Slayer mixed with the Three Stooges.

holy shit, I always heard it from others but never realized how much inspiration Miura took from this movie and the first 2 Evil Dead movies when creating Berserk. Namely, Guts has a mechanical arm and when he first figured out that it was built with a cannon inside, his response is, "Groovy."
The arm, maybe. But if I recall correctly, the "Groovy" line was a part of the Dark Horse English translation. They've made similar changes to other manga.
You know... given Peter Jackson's filming history before the LOTR trilogy, (I kick ass, for the LORD!!), I'm willing to believe this film WAS an inspiration for those scenes you pointed out. ... and why not? This film is a cult classic. It's awesome. So many memorable scenes/lines.
I'm surprised the guys didn't notice the similarity between the people pledging their weapons to Ash and the members of the Brotherhood pledging their weapons to Frodo.
This is the film that knows its goofy and silly and takes itself deadpan seriously in its delivery of it. That is why its so damn good, bc its a labor of love
What's even more impressive is that someone saw Ash here at some point and said, "This man needs to be in a poker game featuring a cartoon dog detective, a murder man from a Johnny Quest parody, and the robot from Borderlands."

Well, took me longer than I anticipated but I've now watched the Evil Dead Trilogy and I'm happy I did. Very interesting evolution, even though the story is the barest of bones and each film is a sequel/standalone (it gets confusing sometimes watching them back to back), it's clearly Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell having insane amounts of fun with a bigger budget each time. Plus it's nice seeing all the elements and nods that Sam puts in his later films that call back to evil dead. Even moments in DS: MoM make sense in retrospect (doesn't make the film better but it's cute) Overall a good watch, now I can understand any reference media makes to evil dead without being confused as I now understand the context.
I think the reason he can do all the engineering stuff is he is an engineering student at his community college. While working at SMART, I think its explained in Evil Dead 1 and 2 more clearly. And even the fact he knows how to ride a horse might be in one of the like 10 cuts of the evil dead stuff.
This movie is in my top 10, so fucking good. So many great lines. Dumb stupid absurdist adventure. Merit shines through still as good as I remember. Clip the skeleton "Lets get the hell out of here" great sound clip.

Man, i've been wanting to rewatch this movie for the longest time AND BAM, an efap movies. Hell, it's 100x better than i remember... given i watched as a kid and don't remember much. Can i just say i really appreciate the non-animated avatars here for this movie EFAP? I dont dislike the animated avatars, I think for a lot of EFAP discussions, the animated ones are super cool and help identify who is talking--but for movie and show reactions, I find the frequently moving animated avatars to be distracting from the show and reaction as a viewer. Super underrated movie. Based on Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton. I'm surprised that a movie about cloning vikings from blood found in hematophagous insects didn't do better.
This brings back some fond memories. It's one of the few movies perfect for sleepovers and friend get-togethers. Bruce is a genuine cool dude, and this is possibly his best character. Hail to the king, baby.
I remember the first time I saw Army of Darkness. It was on Halloween and I was looking on TV for a Scary movie to watch and in the guide, it had Army of Darkness on the AMC Channel. Surely that is a scary movie with a name like that. I was surprised by how funny and enjoyable it was I forgot that I was looking for something scary. I had to show it to my dad and brother as soon as I could. Twas an instant classic with us and to this day over 20 years later we still reference the movie. Being from Michigan like Bruce Campbell and the Raimi brothers the Boomstick manufactured in Grand Rapids made us cheer a little haha. So, when I had heard years ago that they were going to EFAP this movie it was a hard wait because I figured they would love this one. I am glad they enjoyed it just as much as we do. If you haven't seen Ash Vs Evil Dead the series, you will likely enjoy that too as it keeps a lot of the horror comedy just like this movie.

As an avid historian the depiction of medieval Australia in this movie is spot on.
Not enough man eating spiders and angry kangaroos to be accurate 😅😂.

I love the idea of a Harryhausen monster movie, but a comedy. This was the first R movie I saw as a kid.
To this day the "Boomstick" remains to be the apex of medieval weaponry

So, when I had heard years ago that they were going to EFAP this movie it was a hard wait because I figured they would love this one. I am glad they enjoyed it just as much as we do. If you haven't seen Ash Vs Evil Dead the series, you will likely enjoy that too as it keeps a lot of the horror comedy just like this movie.
