  • Eritrean cuisine
Eritrean cuisine shares similarities with surrounding countries' cuisines; however, the cuisine has its unique characteristics.
The main traditional food in Eritrean cuisine is tsebhi (stew), served with injera (flatbread made from teff, wheat, or sorghum and hilbet (paste made from legumes; mainly lentil and faba beans). A typical traditional Eritrean dish consists of injera accompanied by a spicy stew, which frequently includes beef, goat, lamb or fish.
    Eritrea
    Country in East Africa
Eritrea is a northeast African country on the Red Sea coast. It shares borders with Ethiopia, Sudan and Djibouti. The capital city, Asmara, is known for its Italian colonial buildings, like St. Joseph's Cathedral, as well as art deco structures. Italian, Egyptian and Turkish architecture in Massawa reflect the port city's colourful history. Notable buildings here include St. Mariam Cathedral and the Imperial Palace.

I've been loving your channel since I discovered it. Just to let you know, the names of the dishes she told you were in Amharic, which is the main language spoken in Ethiopia. In the main language spoken in Eritrea (Tigrinya), their names are as follows: misir = ades; tibs = tibsi or qulwa; wot = tsebhi.
The dish that she called "key tibs" (Amharic for "red tibs") looks more like zigni/tsebhi to me but it could also be tibsi/qulwa with berbere and tomatoes. Anyway, thanks for the video glad you tried food from my country!

@@11naa44 That might depend on your family and/or where you live in the country.
I lived in the capital city (Asmara) and in my family we almost always ate injera for lunch and dinner but almost never for breakfast.

The person said Tegrhna is not Eritrean language you are HUDGY ሀድጊbecaus so Eritrean language is Italian? Is that what you trying to say? Or you taking about there is another Eritrea that no body knows? You should read the truth history out side about your Eritrea brother/ Sister you live in in the dark. Peace!
Please note that Eritrea has multiple languages, including Tigrinya, Arabic, and English, among others. Italian was once a colonial language in Eritrea, but it is not considered an Eritrean language today. It's important to learn about the history and culture of Eritrea to have a better understanding. he is trying to express his feeling on the false comments they were giving. the fact is ,It's frustrating to see someone trying to claim that traditional dishes like injera and other Habesha cuisine are solely Ethiopian. This is simply not true. These foods are also deeply rooted in Eritrean culture and history. Ignoring this fact erases the rich culinary contributions of Eritrea. Both countries share a profound cultural heritage, and it’s important to recognize that many of these traditional dishes are an integral part of Eritrean cuisine as well. Historical and culinary research clearly shows that these foods belong to both nations, and it's misleading to suggest otherwise.

It is not a big deal, Eritrea was part of Ethiopia, then Italy came and separated. In the 1940s some Eritreans chose to continue as Ethiopias, they called them አንድነት or unionists and the other group chose to have their independent country and that how people started the revolution and Eritrea officially separated from Ethiopia thru referendum in 1993. Politics is different and logic is different.

It's frustrating to see someone trying to claim that traditional dishes like injera and other Habesha cuisine are solely Ethiopian.

You should base your statements on true facts, not the nonsense of your emotions. It's important to clarify that while pasta is popular in Eritrea, it was introduced during the Italian colonization and is not the staple food. The staple food of Eritrea is indeed injera, which is shared with Ethiopia as part of the broader Habesha cultural heritage. Both countries have a rich history of culinary traditions that include injera and other traditional dishes. Historical records and culinary studies confirm that these foods are intrinsic to both Eritrean and Ethiopian cultures. Therefore, it's incorrect to claim that these dishes are exclusively Ethiopian.
