Your Videography is great and I see your channel taking off soon because the quality is there. You should post timelapses/videos of you working away and revealing the fossils. I think it would be an interesting series you could do! just an idea I had its like finding a treasure chest and teasing viewers by not showing whats inside.
Thanks Michael! I have one time-lapse I am editing at the moment to get into a video, I have one you can look at in the mean time: th-cam.com/video/STw905QB570/w-d-xo.html
Can't wait to see that crayfish prepped up! Definitely would love to see a prep video or even just a follow up when it's done! Can't wait to find out more about that skull!
That crayfish is high on my list to prep, I haven't done one before! I'm waiting on some people to get back from holiday to check their emails on the skull 😄
Just amazing finds, I could watch these videos for hours, beautiful scenery, the sound of the sea and amazing finds. I'm so happy to have found this channel. As always respect from the UK (Yorkshire to be specific).
Oh wow, that is exciting! I'm still learning about fossil crabs, but that longish concretion does look nice for a crayfish...we have very large crayfish where I live, I'm eager to see what changes there have been since the Cretaceous. So excited about the whale skull--waiting on tenterhooks for the next video!
Awesome video :) my first time watching your fossil vids. Watched all your rockhounding videos. You get some Sweeet finds. Hope you and your family are having some wonderful holidays.
Oh that is awesome! I hope you had a bit of help moving it! You have to keep us updated on the cleaning of your finds and what becomes of the skull. Merry Christmas!
Thank God u went back for the skull😂, keep u making these great vids, would love to maybe see more of the prepped fossils, I know it takes a lot of time😅 And when your skilled enough could u maybe do a prep turtorial, or tips and tricks😁
Hahaha, I couldn't just leave it there! I have a prep video that is about 15min long which you can see here: th-cam.com/video/STw905QB570/w-d-xo.html I will do a short prep video soon, got the footage done recently! Thanks for watching!
Nice find! Do you think all those big pieces could be from the same specimen? Don't museums help on recovering big finds or do they have so many they don't need them?
The rock seemed different between the first one I saw and the big skull. I do let the museum know and if the specimen needed a jacket they would get involved if it is something they want. This type of whale is quite well presented in their collection so they didn't want it. I might still donate it to a different museum 😁
would you be able to show us the crayfish or lobster (whatever it turns out to be) when you are finished prepping it? I am so curious to see what it turns out like.
What a cool day and a cool video. I'm watching the video you go back. The South is so beautiful and it's interesting seeing different species from each coast, thank you
Awesome I look forward to it. It was funny when you did that chalk lines of where the bones were, what I saw would of had 4 lines in completely different places, I had to giggle
That's great. Thanks. I live in Florida, but my sister in law lives near Portland, Oregon. Hopefully I get out that way one day. Thanks again. And congratulations on the skull! I just finished the followup video. RIP little red wagon.
hi Mamlambo, at 2.45 in the vid the bone in the rock looks like a whale vert as it has 2 fins/blades poking out, they have 3 so the other is in the rock, but to me it looks like a vert and with the rib bone it make it more thank likely a vert and some ribs too :0) I hope you have the whale skull and wow what a great find and cant wait to see the rescue as that will prep up very nice, if you chose to do so as you never know whats hiding in the same concretion :0) looking forward to the next one very very much :0) sorry forgot to say merry xmas to you Mamlambo :0)
Thanks so much Robert! It makes sense that they are vertebrae of the whale with some associated ribs 😄 Hard at work on the next video - the whale rescue part 2 😄 Merry Christmas to you too!
@@MamlamboFossils you will have so much stuff to prep you'll have to stop collecting for a while :0) very much looking forward to the whale rescue part 2, hope you managed to get some one to help you as that thing looks like a monster and very heavy too :0) thank you for your time and effort with posting the vids and bring huge concretions home for us to see whats inside :0)

Hi Tracy, I've never looked into Paleodictyon fossils, thanks for letting me know. I'll be on the look out for them, glad you and your family like the channel 😄 It's amazing how we can share adventures from across the world!
Oopsies! I Missed one. I'm caught up now! That's nothing a lot of glue won't fix, is it? You find all the amazing stuff. Did you ever google that river I mentioned from before? I'd like to see you haul out some dinosaur bones. But it's a steep climb to haul out on your back. That whale skull was hard enough to haul out wasn't it? Everything here on The Rock is covered in snow now, so no hunting for me. Have a good one!
Yeah, that whale skull sure was tough! I had a look at that stream, the one near Hawke's Bay? Looks like similar age fossils to the Waipara river. If I'm out that way I will definitely go have a look 😄 Thanks for watching!
@@MamlamboFossils 2:57 10:42 and yes you said you probably have some at home. It was just so beautiful to me because I'm a mountain woman. There's nothing like that around here.
Thanks bones&stones! I haven't found any yet, I have got a concretion with some dolphin bones in it which I haven't fully exposed which might still have something interesting in. I would LOVE to find a toothed whale skull!

6:08 looks like a MCP joint of some type of bovid (maby antelope?)

Do the rocks that have a white layer through the middle have anything in them??
I thought that first thing you found was a skull. ..swear that you could see where the teeth were!

A good way to test if bobe is fossilized or not is to light a match and burn it slightly. If it smells foul then it's live bone.
I've tried that a few times, never quite sure with the results :) I'll try it again on that bit of bone. Thanks for the tip.
@@MamlamboFossils no problem. If you're unsure, you can always try burning a dried out or chalky bone, first, to get an idea of the smell
