Wife and I stayed at Carlsbad KOA last October and loved this trip! The caverns were fantastic and part of the experience was at least walking down. Plus watching the bats fly out of cave at night. The town had some good local restaurants to eat at too. There was also a waterfall not to far from the KOA to go to and explore. Would’ve been a great bike ride passing by the open range cattle. Roswell was a tourist trap but still a fun experience. All of our travels we seem to find fun in every town we’ve been, small or large! Safe travels and thanks for the video.
Story behind the bird cage in La Posta Mexican restaurant! Back in the 1970's they had a Mina Bird that was the central "center piece" in the lobby of the restaurant. He had a very large vocabulary and would greet everyone coming in the front door with a very loud "hello". if you talked to him, he could answer short questions. As they only live about 30 years, I am sure they never found a personable replacement for him. We used to go there to eat and mainly see the mina. Lived in El Paso at the time. Had a 20' (class C) Open Road RV and mainly toured the local areas and up to Cloudcroft, NM nost of the time to excapt the Texas heat. Keep up the good work!
I’ve been to Carlsbad Caverns twice and did the audio tour both times. I would totally recommend doing that tour. I loved it both times. I love doing cave tours and didn’t think the tour at Carlsbad was difficult. Thanks for sharing and safe travels.
I'm always blown away by the editing, the choices of music, the timing....its amazing. I'm subscribed to more channels than I even remember, and yours is top shelf material. Love how you say what you think, and if someone doesn't like it...to bad. 100% honesty The Best TH-cam has to offer. All the best.👍👍
Especially enjoyed seeing Carlsbad Caverns again. Went the first time when I was around 11. We went the night before to the entrance of the BIG cave opening where there is the back and forth walk going down into the cave. Everyone that was there (tourists) gathered at the very top of the walkway and just waited. My dad had checked into this beforehand and found out that at dust/sunset, millions and millions of tiny bats come out of the caves. Well, sure enough, we only had to wait about 20 minutes and we started to hear this far off wooshing sound. It got louder and louder and louder, until it literally sounded like a freight train coming up out of the cave. It was absolutely spectacularly amazing. They came up out of the cave like a whirling tornado. Spiraling up, up, up until they were several thousand feet above the opening. Then they just all took off in all different directions. There were so many of the bats that they literally blocked out the sky overhead. The Park Ranger who was there told us that the bats stay out all night and all of them come back in the same way they left. They have this internal clock that tells them when to leave and when to return. Pretty cool huh. Also, was surprised to see you went down an elevator. We went down the winding back and forth trail that went down into the BIG cave opening. There was about 20 people in our group, and lights were turned on in the caves only as we entered into each area, and turned off behind us. I remember when we were far enough down into the caves so that any light coming in from the opening was no longer visible, all of the lights were turned out so we could see what TOTAL darkness was. OH my gosh. You literally could not see your hand in front of you. The lights were turned back on after about 20 seconds. That was long enough. At the end of the tour, we were in a large cafeteria like area where they sold box lunches (literally, a cardboard box with wrapped sandwiches and a cold drink) then when you had finished your box lunch you took the elevator back to the surface. Things have changed, and rightly so I guess. It was around 1958 when I went. But it was still pretty cool. So cool that it has left an everlasting impression on me all of these years.
As others have already pointed out, do not give up on New Mexico! Albuquerque and north is spectacular! Don’t miss the Valle Vidal, federal land. It’s gorgeous!!
Even though this part of the country wasn't your favorite it was so much fun to watch! We truly love your honesty and that you guys are real! That's why we love watching! Go Buckeyes!
We spent the same winter you did in New Mexico (January & February), the wind was awful some days! But, we had a great time! We're from Wisconsin, the land of green & SNOW. We missed the Polar Vortex in the north, had the kitchen sink burrito at the Cowboy Café in Roswell, saw some great murals, stayed at an Alpaca Farm, camped in the snow near Santa Fe, loved on Albuquerque, parked near the water in a wee blink of a town named Logan and all the while stayed at New Mexico's state parks. Only draw back was our pooch kept getting those hard little stickers stuck in his paws. Thanks for the overview!!
This had me laughing so hard...it was like watching our trip to Las Cruces we did all of the same things you guys did. Have to admit that Road Runner is something we are so easily entertained. White Sands is something of course us old people were not about to slid down a mountain of sand but it was fun watching y'all do it. Safe and happy travels.
Wife and son did the Roswell and Carlsbad trip about 25 years ago. We may do the area as a destination, because the caverns are a great experience. Thank you for the video visit.
The picture in picture commentary was a really nice touch. It had a talk show/documentary vibe for a few minutes and it worked well. Nice job on this episode!
Great to see you guys again! I know; my fault. And Tara is so full of energy here. We are glad to see it. Y'all, I know y'all speak southern. Y'all are so much fun. And the videos keep getting better, more creative. And Chad, count your blessings there were no cactus; Tara just might have... Ha! Never mind. All the best to you.
The diversity of our country is amazing. There’s something for everyone, I love the redwoods of Northern California and the desert sands of the southwest. Keep up the great content guys 😎
Great video as usual! The best part was when you asked “Siri...what time is sunset?” It paused the video, and told me. 😄 In case you are wondering, it was at 1951 hrs right here in Humble, TX.
I was stationed at Cannon AFB which is in Clovis NM. I hated it. Doing FOD walks with negative wind chill cuts through you. Albuquerque is nice and I recommend going to the balloon festival. The bat flight at Carlsbad is pretty cool. I can see Chad doing a Clark Griswold down a sand dune.
Love the video. You guys are a lot of fun. Years ago, my husband and I, on our GoldWing left PA for Carlsbad. That is how far we made it on a 2-week vacation before we had to head back to PA. Carlsbad was not out intended destination, it is just how far we made it before we had to head back home. Our GD 397TH should roll off the assembly line on September 30. Can't wait to hit the road.
This was a nicely done video. Good to post things like this so that people who RV can know ahead of time what places are like. Wish I had your editing skills...still learning as I've only been on YT a month or so...trying to gain traction here. Been RVing though for more than 50 years, so have plenty of info to share and stories to tell. Good Job. Thanks for posting.
OMG you guys made miss the desert which is weird to me lol. Since I moved to Dayton, oh from UAE, I have not seen like this for long time. I wish you guys the best and may God shed his grace on both of you.
If y’all go back to NM, grants is a nice town, has a KOA on the outskirts with some great hiking trails as well as the grants ice caves and extinct volcano
And now we see why some of the outtakes were outtakes. White Sands Looks cool, but at 32 deg and 60 MPH winds I don't think I'll visit in March. Nice video guys, keep 'em coming.
Come to Idaho, there’s sand dunes, mountains, trees, desert, craters of the moon, natural hot tubes, many places to boondock or campsites, four wheeling many old mining Townes. West Yellowstone and old faithful are near.
My wife and I live in Clovis, NM. There are vast areas that are very flat and not much to look at. We're both from California, where there are so many kinds of landscapes. NM has some beautiful places, as others have said. We love the northern parts of NM, especially Angel Fire and the Enchanted Circle area. Carlsbad Caverns certainly is amazing to see though! We plan on full timing after I retire in a few years. We love your videos!
You two are so fun to watch! I love all your video's! We are about to retire and get an RV, still deciding if we want a toyhauler (I feel I would loose so much living space). But after watching you guys, it looks like you spend a majority of time outside, witch I'm thinking we will also do. Thank you for the tips, showing different interesting places, and your sense of humor! You are so fun to watch! If you ever come to Idaho I can give you some tips on places to go! Can't wait to start this new chapter of our lives traveling! Keep those videos coming! Happy Trails!
Living room space is usually lacking on most toy haulers. We'd have lots of options in the RV world if we didn't need our office and want to keep it a separate area... Welcome to our channel, Jaimie! 😊
I absolutely love your videos. Safe travels and thank you so much for sharing your adventures with everyone. I look forward to your next videoed adventure.
Hey guys. It's been a bit since I have been on here. This Covid thing is bad, really bad here in Roswell. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Roswell, I am still trying to enjoy it after 21 years (and not having much luck). When I finish recovering from my stroke and coma, we are moving to somewhere with trees and water. Hope to see you out on the road somewhere. Happy trails
Thanks for the insights on cool places to visit in New Mexico (even if there aren't many☺). The caverns were real cool. If you ever get back to the great state of Kentucky, you might check out Mammoth Cave. The Corvette Museum and factory are only about 40 miles away down I-65.
If you head a little west of Roswell you will enter into some mountains where there are various little cities/towns like Ruidoso or Cloucroft which are incredible mountain towns that are so very nice. Even Capitan and Alto New Mexico are great little places.
Yea.. we drove through that area between Carlsbad and Las Cruces. Beautiful area. 👍🏼 We need to see more of the Northern part of the state next time for sure! 😊
New Mexico has alot of desert, What where you guys expecting , green forest! You must of also expecting to see real Aliens in Roswell. My wife, son and parents also experience the same vacation in New Mexico and we loved it.
I know this video is nearly two years old but... We're heading to Carlsbad for the caves (and the bats) this summer (2021) and your information is very helpful, we're actually staying at the Carlsbad KOA too. Thanks for the video of the KOA.
We've done the exact same thing twice in the past 5 years. Stayed at the Carlsbad KOA and then driven to the caverns. My kids like the pool at that RV Park. But there is nothing in Carlsbad but the caverns. I grew up in NM and the Southern part of NM is pretty lame. lol.. Hit the mountains next time.
Oh man, I wish we knew you were in Cruces. We could have met you in Mesilla for lunch. We're from Denver and southern NM is a big change. We like it being not as crowded and less snow. I will admit we go back up often. The open vastness of the desert can be cool but you either love it or hate it. We like your cannel. Thanks for the videos.
So, yeah, I endured your video because... You make all things fun! It might have been a bit less interesting than you had hoped for, but the soundtrack, and the goofy encounters (roadrunner), it was hilarious! Attitude is everything, I always say. I kept saying to myself: What else? What else? Nice tip to avoid 9.5-mile loop. Is it acceptable to comment more than once per video? And now is... White Sands... Waxed sled vs. feet? Daredevil! Good job! Looked like fun!
Too bad you didn't see any blooming cacti. We spent March in Arizona and after the wet winter it had lots of blooming cacti. We visited White Sands last November and it was perfect weather. Carlsbad Caverns are good in any weather :)
New Mexico is amazing, but different. Roswell, Carlsbad Caverns, Trinity Site- Green Chiles, Santa Fe, Taos. A beautiful state!. It is windy in March, but we are used to it. Please come back!
Nice run and info. We travel back and forth couple to few times a year between Texas and old roots in So. Cal. (family) and always stop at La Posta in Las Cruces for food. Been a regular 'must stop' for now 3 generations in my family.
Next time you hit up NM, go to candy kitchen and visit wild spirit wolf sanctuary!! Awesome!! Beautiful terrain and they have an RV park called Ancient Way!! ❤
Northern NM is very spectacular, look into the Carson National Forest and nice full hook up RV sites in Chama New Mexico. PS the movie Wild Hogs was filmed in Northern NM.
What mattybr1 said, with a motorcycle, and the right time of year, Taos & Santa Fe can be very nice - even beautiful. Do you snow ski? Hot air balloon rides? Gotta time New Mexico just right. A KOA, really? Yeah, looked remote, desolate, not shady. Yikes! I would never live there, but desert life is what I already do - Mojave Desert north of Los Angeles. Retirement will be more colorful! :)
Ok, that was new! I was watching this video on my TV in the living room of the coach, and on the outtakes when Chad asked Siri, “what time is sunset”, Siri on my iPad responded to him! I had to stop, laugh, and send you guys a comment.
We love New Mexico. We have been to Albuquerque and Santa Fe. We love the Sandia Mountains Lift and the Nob Hil area. When we go back we want to do the White Sands, The Carverns, The Breaking Bad tour and visit Taos. I'm a huge Georgia O'Keeffe. Lou💚
So bummed you went in March... the fall and spring are nicer for sure. If at all possible definitely check out Northern NM especially in October (it might be cold it might be on 2nd or 3rd summer 🤣 give it 10 minutes it will change!) anyway Albuqurque has the annual Balloon Fiesta. It will be crowded crazy and busy, but fun and pretty to watch all the balloons!
Yes, you definitely didn't pick the best time to visit southern New Mexico! September and October can be really great though. Also, SE New Mexico isn't a good choice for riding, as you found out. For riding you were close though in Las Cruces. The ride to do in Las Cruces is State Rd. 28 south out of Old Mesilla along the Rio Grande. I live in Deming and if you ever get back this way (preferably in Sept. or Oct.) give me a heads up and I would be glad to take you on a couple of amazing motorcycle day tripsI We also have some really good restaurants serving Mexican food and it's a short hop (30 minutes) across the border to Palomas Mex. and The Pink Store for more great Mexican cuisine.
As a retired and tiered and probably retarted truck driver and who traveled thur NM twice or even three times a week, let me tell you, March isn't the only month of strong winds. If your headed West, of course the winds are coming out of east, heading East, winds coming from the West. Any month can be and probably be bad. And snow storms. Dec of 18, came back thru NM after major blizzard. I10 west boud back up over twenty miles. Traffic was stopped while the state was trying to figure out how to open the road. East bound not much better but was open. Heading to Apache Junction the end of Sept for the winter. We live in Northern Minnesota and after last winter, we said no more, taking fifth wheel and saying good bye!!!
:( Native NM here. Southern NM is not our crown jewel, however Northern NM, is. We have lots to offer. The Balloon and Rio Grande festival in the fall is mind blowing. Tent Rocks, ABQ old town, Santa Fe, Taos, Red River, Angle Fire.
It's just my opinion guys but you went to the wrong end, northern NM is much more scenic, up around Santa fe especially in the fall, very mountainous and tree covered. AWSOME riding. I was there early fall around October. The southern end is just a means to get through the state.
Whit Sands was AWESOME .... (I had a nightmare after doing the sledding though .... SOME IDIOTS planted a double row of Cactuses at the bottom) .... "OUCH" !!!!!! The caverns were SUPER COOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really you didn’t take the walk down into the caves and elevate at the end. Great way to see it all. Also get to see the bat cave that housed massive bat Colony.
Well, it is the dessert southwest. The funny thing is the fact that ones of us from this area don’t like all of the trees where you are from. It is all good. Travel safe
Was this the trip where you guys went through the Midland, Tx area? If so, be thankful it was not today since it is currently 112°F. You guys have a great channel. Really wish we could run into you somewhere and go ride. Maybe you should do a series on what time is the best time to visit different states? Travel safe and maybe we will see you on the road.
@@ChangingLanes lol, that scene is amazing. The music crescendo leading up to Jack saying: "How do you like it?" th-cam.com/video/NgMdz2fe0CY/w-d-xo.html You ever come back to the trailer to find that Daisy has done her bidness on the floor, and she looks at you as if to say: "How do you like it?" Just don't ever buy her a typewriter!
Roswell, I am bummed I didn't make a stop there as a kid driving cross country from Upstate NY to Santa Barbara, CA years ago.And the roadrunner... I was golfing at a beautiful resort in Tucson, AZ while on business and a roadrunner was perched at the end of the tee box. .My buddy waited for that darn thing to move. It took forever, so he said to hell with it and tee'd off. As soon as he tee'd off, the damn thing ran across the tee box. My buddy damn near hit the thing in the head! White Sands National Park... that looked just beautiful. Note- when you go through Phoenix, please do yourself a flavor and DO STOP AT THE CITIZEN PUBLIC HOUSE IN SCOTTSDALE for their STETSON SALAD. Long story short, the place that made this salad "famous" went out of business last year. The salad was soooo acclaimed that 2 restaurants took it on as their own. Honestly, you'll be thrilled you took my advice on this one. It's one of those food experiences that is actually worth it. Love your channel... Happy travels!
We'll have to put that on our list for next time through! 👍🏼 We saw a few roadrunners also but took us a while to realize what they were. They look a lot bigger in looney tunes cartoons! 😂🤣 didn't see any coyotes with dynamite though...

You need to go in April or May look for all the cactus blooming flowers. You have to appreciate how the desert is really full of life.
👍

June and July are nice times to visit Southern New Mexico. The desert is alive with blooms of the various wild flowers. Try it out!
New Mexico has its own unique beauty. The sunrise in las Cruces is so beautiful. I love it. White sands is great!
We hear it's best in spring and fall! 👍🏼 😊 Will try the Northern part of the sate next time.. 😊
They we’re in the desert part of NM. They should’ve gone North. I don’t care going South or east toward Carlsbad. It’s ugly

North New Mexico is in our future for sure. 👍🏼
Welcome to our channel and Thanks for watching! 😊
Thanks for your take on your adventure! Love the haircut.
yep, been there done that in April 2019, wind blew 30 to 40 for 3 days. Enjoy your videos.
Oh I just love your video editing, it is so wonderful !!
Thanks! That's all Tara's work.. 👍🏼 😀
Noce about the kennels. Good tip! I wish they were everywhere!
in New Mexico in February you can have high winds of 50 MPH or more with gusts of 70 MPH for a total of 20 days
We did have a great time at white sands and the caverns! 👍🏼 😊
We will! 😊 Definitely want to see the trinity site next time!
We went to some nice caverns (Mystic Caverns) in northern Arkansas when we did motorcycle trip up there a few years back.
Nice run and info. We travel back and forth couple to few times a year between Texas and old roots in So. Cal. (family) and always stop at La Posta in Las Cruces for food. Been a regular 'must stop' for now 3 generations in my family.
Thanks for watching! Hope you check out the rest of our channel! 😊
You to are a lot of fun I love your videos keep it up you show me places I don't know if I'll get to see
Hey you guys just missed El Paso TX just 30 minutes from Las Cruces NM. Several great places to eat especially cattleman's steak house!!!!!
Next time you hit up NM, go to candy kitchen and visit wild spirit wolf sanctuary!! Awesome!! Beautiful terrain and they have an RV park called Ancient Way!! ❤
Northern new Mexico is beautiful
We'll definitely check that out next time we have the opportunity! 👍🏼 😊
It was winter and down southeast so yes it was windy and cold and really brown.
Thanks for the info. I think we will pass that up. Like the drinking idea better 👍☝️🍻
Roswell (my hometown) is best on the 4th of july during the ufo fest you would love it then.
Bet that is awesome! 👍🏼
Love Changing Lanes!
Northern NM is very spectacular, look into the Carson National Forest and nice full hook up RV sites in Chama New Mexico. PS the movie Wild Hogs was filmed in Northern NM.
We definitely want to get up to that side of NM!
Nice trip how was the sunsets that is what I remember about NM, thank you for the memories.
Didn't really see anything spectacular. But I think we visited in a bad time of year...
😂🤣
Welcome to New Mexico, my home state! You missed some great views and hospitality!
I'm sure we did! We'll have to check out those parts next time through the area! 👍🏼 😊
Lou💚
And we need to see the Northern part of the state next time! 👍🏼 😊
Thanks for sharing another adventure and travel tips. 😄
You 2 should of hung out till the Roswell rush. Lol --- Thanks for another great video. Yes she is beautiful. Lucky you Chad.
Your comment about the wind triggered me about a bad camping experience that absolutely finished camping for me.
We definitely want to check out Northern NM and the balloon festival someday! Thanks for watching! 😊
My husband is the same way, his body is a red hot mess and he's the first one out there trying to be a 19 yr old acrobat. 🤣💯
We look forward to your videos each week! We are hoping to go full time in January! House if for sale now!
Awesome! Good luck on your full time RV transition! 😊
Yep, southern NM is pretty grim. Be sure and check the north.
👍🏼 😊
As a retired and tiered and probably retarted truck driver and who traveled thur NM twice or even three times a week, let me tell you, March isn't the only month of strong winds. If your headed West, of course the winds are coming out of
east, heading East, winds coming from the West.
Indeed! Follow the good weather! 👍🏼 😊
Have you ever been to the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque? Starts the 1st full weekend in October.
Yes! Can't wait to see it!
Nice. That was fun. Glad Tara didn't go fump, fump, fump!
Great job on the video. Still waiting for a delivery date on my RV toyhauler.
Great video guys. Thank you.
Yes! We will definitely make it to the norther part of the state next time! But, we did have a blast at White Sands and the Caverns! :)
It's just my opinion guys but you went to the wrong end, northern NM is much more scenic, up around Santa fe especially in the fall, very mountainous and tree covered. AWSOME riding. I was there early fall around October. The southern end is just a means to get through the state.
Yes.. we'll definitely get back and see the better side.. 😊
Have you guys been to Arizona yet? If not, be sure to check out Sedona among many other awesome places.
LOVED Sedona! 😊 Video forthcoming... 👍🏼
Really you didn’t take the walk down into the caves and elevate at the end. Great way to see it all. Also get to see the bat cave that housed massive bat Colony.
We thought about it, but Tara has a tough time with stairs... even just down: th-cam.com/video/Wnn8mONYx5g/w-d-xo.html
we have been to Albuquerque and santa fe, loved them both, you need to go to the balloon fiesta it is the best
Most definitely need to see the balloon festival! 👍🏼 😊
Well, it is the dessert southwest. The funny thing is the fact that ones of us from this area don’t like all of the trees where you are from. It is all good. Travel safe
Indeed. Everyone has different taste, or we'd all live in the same state. 😊 We'll be back to check out the Northern part of the sate... 👍🏼
Seeing Daisy in that painting was like seeing Jack Nicholson in the old black-and-white photo at the end of "The Shining". I'd keep an eye on her.
All work and no play makes jack a dull boy.
All work and no play makes jack a dull boy....
@@ChangingLanes lol, that scene is amazing. The music crescendo leading up to Jack saying: "How do you like it?" th-cam.com/video/NgMdz2fe0CY/w-d-xo.html
You ever come back to the trailer to find that Daisy has done her bidness on the floor, and she looks at you as if to say: "How do you like it?"
Just don't ever buy her a typewriter!
We saw a few roadrunners also but took us a while to realize what they were. They look a lot bigger in looney tunes cartoons! 😂🤣 didn't see any coyotes with dynamite though...
