  • After our 12 day boon docking adventure in Lone Rock Beach (it was awesome…you should check it out!!), we headed West to St. George, Utah.
    ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Click Show More ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
    When we were planning our trip out West, we knew that we had to see Zion National Park! Even though we were trying to reserve sites months in advance, we were unable to find any availability close to the park itself. So, we decided to stay in St. George which is only about 45 minutes to the park’s entrance. Added bonus?…My (Tara) uncle lives there!! 😊
    In this video, we will show you the RV park where we stayed and take you on an amazingly beautiful motorcycle ride through Zion National Park!! It was an amazing day and so great to have the chance to ride with My Uncle Jim!
    Unfortunately, the weather was uncooperative during our stay and we were only able to get to Zion that one time. We will definitely be back to explore more of that amazing park! 💚

    Wow, that beautiful paint job REALLY stands out among all your neighbor’s rigs at Temple View. You also CLEARLY have the most adorable dog in the park. Couple these facts with your exquisite taste in frozen soft-serve dessert items and you guys are three for three! lol. Oh, and Zion N.P. Was kinda cool too

    The west is like no other place in these United States. We lived in Northern Nevada for 18 years. The Ruby Mountains were out our back door. I miss the little town of Lamoille, NV so much. It's at the foothills of the Rubies.

    Excellent! My mom in law lives in Kanab so we go in that entrance.. the East one. I've done the horseback riding there, and it's incredible, but it's a typical trail ride.. nose to butt and stay in line. Cool non-tourists areas tho!

    Great video. On our way back from Monument Valley, headed to Las Vegas, we took our 5th wheel through Zion. Wow, what a beautiful place. Not really that bad towing through there. Saw our first mountain goats right beside the road. FYI Monument Valley Holdings campground is very nice. Take care. JJK

    Since I live in "Saint George" this video certainly caught my attention. Temple View RV Park is overrated, we have lived here over 20-years and other than expanding more sites, they have done nothing to improve that place. There are two others I'm including a link to for you to check out which I think are much better when you make it back this way. Zion River RV Park www.zionriverresort.com/ Also WillowWind RV Park www.willowwindrvpark.com/ I appreciate the kind words you had for Utah, sorry for the weather, not usually like that early part of June. Also impressed with the info you gave about the Park and area. You might consider going to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon next time in are around here, it is BEAUTIFUL. As always loved the video and the bloopers. Take care & thanks for sharing.

    • @robertlumby
      @robertlumby 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChangingLanes I actually test drove a 2018, and it was all I could do NOT to take it home with me! They've made it difficult because it looks like the 2020 RM Elite will have the 116 on it. Grrr. I have no idea what the performance improvement is over the 111, so I'm letting that cool my jets for a couple months. I ride a Honda ST1300 currently, but I need a different riding position [long story]. All in all, I can't think of a different bike to get than that RM, but now I have to decide between the extra $10K for the RM Elite or if the 111 is just as good. Thank you so much for your feedback...You're a lucky man to get to explore with a lovely wife. It looks like you two have great fun together. [Does she have a sister?] Stay safe and enjoy your adventures!

    What do y’all use to secure the motorcycle while traveling?

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We use a WheelDock. wheeldock.com/ and 4 straps.
      The wheeldock uses a piston you trigger with your foot to lock in the wheel versus having to rock it in and out. I don't bolt it in at all, it just sits on the floor and I strap lucile down on the front forks and rear bars.
      We demonstrate it a bit here th-cam.com/video/_X-LAY8Fwlw/w-d-xo.html,
      then later here th-cam.com/video/uPXNmS0IBRQ/w-d-xo.html

    Hey guys .... COOL that you got to RIDE through ZION, and along with Tara's uncle !!! NICE ...
    In my opinion, ZION National Park has to BE one of the BEST places on this planet !!!!! (And I have seen a decent amount of the planet ....) LOL ... That DAISY is a trip .... Awesome doggie !!! My personal tip... when you return to Utah and head to ZION, Make it a point to DO Angel's Landing ... The views ARE LIKE NO OTHER place ..... It WILL "take your breath away" ... (and i don't mean the climb ...) I'm nearly 60 yrs old now, and I've done it twice !! Just have to do it on a GOOD day for Tara !!! :) :) :)

    P.S. Here's a funny childhood memory of Zion's... Like your Uncle Jim in St. George, I have an older sister and her husband that live in Kanab (just southeast of Zion's, Hwy 89). When I was a teenager during the 1970's, my brother's-in-law, along with a few other friends, would take a weekend "hop" over to Zion's just to goof-off for a day. Back in the day, vehicle traffic was not the congestion problem it is today, and we could park our car in a "pull-out" right near the entrance to the longer of the two mountain tunnels. We would take a "Glow-in-the-dark, Wam-O Frisbee" and hold it up against the car head light for several minutes, and then all of us would head inside the tunnel. I'm sure we contributed to the decision of Park Rangers posting signs prohibiting pedestrian traffic into the tunnel, but once we got past the first curve, it was JET-BLACK inside that tunnel. You could hold your hand 5 inches in front of your face and could not see it at all... JET-BLACK, BLACK, BLACK, BLACK. Then we would throw the Frisbee around. Not knowing what direction was what, sometimes you could see the Frisbee fly for 10 feet and then stop, mid-flight, and drop to the ground (after hitting the tunnel wall). If you saw the Frisbee glide effortlessly thru the air, then you knew that was the direction everyone wanted to travel. When we heard a vehicle noise getting louder and louder, it was time to "take cover" in the recesses in the side-wall of the tunnel (ribs, that were structural support arches that supported the top and side walls of the tunnel). They were spaced maybe 10 feet apart, and would give you a foot and a half depth, to hide within. Vehicle traffic would fly past us at 40 mph, and we could have just reached out an arm and touched one of them if we wanted. Anyway, once the "rumbling" would start to fade away, we knew it was safe to come out of hiding and resume our Frisbee throwing. The window openings were really cool to look out of too. We would walk the entire length of the tunnel, turn around, and then start the journey back to our car. A few times, when I thought I was in the center of the tunnel and a vehicle was approaching our area, I would bolt to the side-wall for safety, only to quickly discover that I was only 3 or 4 feet away and I would slam into the side-wall, knocking me senseless. Watching the flight of the Frisbee always gave us our heading, and when ever anyone was close enough to catch it mid-flight, they would send it flying again in the same direction. Sometimes it would skid on the asphalt as it landed and would just sit there for a minute, until you would see it quickly jump up and start flying again, just like magic... ha-ha-ha.

    There is a little bakery cafe on the river in Zion that has good pie and ice cream. Also there is a cut off that will take you closer to mess Verde without having to drop down to Mexican Hat with its steep grades and 90 degree turns to cross the river. The other route s on the flat.

    OH NOOOOOOOO... Chad and Tara you missed the best parts of ZION'S !!!! I kid you not... I'm as serious as a heart-attack... I'm so, so sorry that you missed it !!! Just after you crossed the "Canyon Junction Bridge" which crosses over the Virgin River, you should have made a left turn and went north instead of heading east to the Mt. Carmel entrance. Tara, you kept saying how beautiful Zion was, but had you gone north, it's a 6 or 7 mile dead-end road (big turn-around loop), but OMG it is much, much, much better than the run over to Mt. Carmel. TRUST ME, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED IF YOU PLAN A RETURN-TRIP, and take the "Zion Canyon Scenic Dr. / Floor of the Valley Rd" up and back. When you go back, plan on a week at least, and you can enjoy several "Day Hikes" that you will find TOTALLY BREATH-TAKING !!!!

I had Camping World (just up the street) replace a skylight that broke from ice coming off the roof. Zion has Angels Landing, it is a beautiful hike! If you can visit Capital reef is another beautiful canyon.

    Great video you guys! That was some of the worst weather we have had in the eight years we have lived here. Make sure and visit some of the state parks on the bike(Snow Canyon/Quail Creek and Sand Hollow). Grab a burger at Oscars in Springdale. You will have to check out the devils backbone if you come back out here to visit Bryce.

    Just got home from there on May 30th. Stayed at the Zion campground in town about a mile from the entrance to the park. Went to Zion NP and Bryce Canyon NP ( which we kind of liked a little better). Beautiful area!!

    So glad you took the time for Monument Valley. Although you didn’t tour it. A very spiritual place. Go back if you can and take the tour driven by the native Indian.

    Stayed at Temple View park last July while we visited all the NP in the area. We were there for a week and saw Zion, Vegas, Grand Canyon North Rim, Bryce, and Antelope/ Horseshoe before we left to go to Moab. I enjoyed the park. Of course it is hot during the day but we were out touring during the day. At night it cooled down enough we could walk around (visit Dairy Queen) and see the town. The staff at the park was very nice and very helpful. When we first arrived I was getting an error code on my EMS and the staff came out trouble shot the hook up and fixed it within an hour. Laundry room was clean and so were the restrooms attached to the pool. Small community center was a nice place to meet others in the evening and WiFi there was good. We entered Zion at 0430 in the morning mainly to beat the heat and we were not doing any major hiking this trip. We practically had the whole park to ourselves. We did manage to beat the heat so much that we needed a light jacket until about 0800 when it started to warm up.

    If you have never done it, when you are back in that area, you need to go to Bryce Canyon. From there an absolute must do on a motorcycle is hwy 12 to Torrey. Then hwy 24 through Capital Reef. We live in Utah and this is one of our favorites to ride on our FJR 1300.

    Oh my gosh, you made me so home sick!! I grew up in St George and still have family there. My husband and I had friends that wintered in the park you stayed in. I lived 3 blocks east of the Temple right by the college as a kid. So many memories.

    I feel like a must do in Zion is one of the many slot canyons. Many require a permit so look into that. Others require special gear. Look into a guide service if you are feeling adventurous and want to do a route with some rappelling. Pine creek is an amazing route that actually starts right at the at parking lot at the end of the first tunnel. If your not feeling as adventurous just go to the narrows and hike up until you get sick of it. Bring sturdy water shoes with you and don’t waste your money on the River shoes that everybody rents there.

    I think the openings in the tunnels were there for the construction workers for discarding materials as they were working.

    Thanks so much. I envy your lifestyle. Before I saw it I bought a 2019 Ford 250 Platinum. I wish I had spent a bit more and gotten a 350. But my desire is not to do this full time. I own a large house and it is appreciating rapidly. I want to keep the house and do two to three ventures out every month or so. I am buying the Yamaha FJR. Had one before and for solo riding I love them. With my truck I am going to have to put extra leaf springs under it to beef up the rear towing capability. But that is less than one thousand. Happy safe travels. Marc

    I had a Chihuahua named Patch and he used to prance and dance and somehow at the same time he was prancing and dancing he was circling me into my place and into the kitchen he was so cute and adorable when he did that 😍 and when Daisy does her little dance when you come home it reminds me of Patch even though he was taller and longer than her he was fun to deal with and she looks like she's just as much fun and adorable personality

    LOVE Zion. We did a ride thru the Big 5 national parks in Utah last year and it was incredible. If you get the chance to do all 5 do it. Zion, Canyanland, Bryce, Arches, Capital Reef.
